Could I? Absolutely.

Would I? Nope, unless it was some extreme reasoning or defense. I honestly cannot for the life of me even find that sort of desire, as I have never clashed with a teacher once, and even though there are a few that drive me crazy with their grading policies, I still have respect for them for upholding their (rather harsh) standards.

Though I can see myself in a situation where they say a few things to ignite that powder cage, but it'd have to be a lot of things that annoy me, and I mean a lot, and not just some random saying that causes me annoyance.

PS: I also misread this thread and thought it said "Can you ever punch a tree?" and instantly thought of Minecraft. Dang you, Minecraft!

I am in education and I am not offended by this question.

The only time you are allowed to punch a teacher is to defend your person. If you are being attacked by the teacher, then yes swing away. If the teacher is trying to rape you, punch him in the balls and call the police.

Anything else is not justified. You cannot attack a teacher for hating your opinion anymore than you can attack your friend.

Before anyone goes crazy about the title, let me explain. My classroom today got into a debate about whether a student can punch a teacher if they deserve it. They referred to the movie Disturbia, which has a scene where shia labeouf's character punches a teacher after the teacher made a comment about his dead father. The debate was short-lived of course.

So it got me thinking, what could the teacher do or say that could possibly make someone want to punch them? Could you ever bring yourself to punch a teacher?

P.S. Sorry for any teachers on the forums. This is just a "what if" kind of debate. :p
I am a teacher, I have been punched my a teacher (I got all A's and didn't have to show to class anymore. The teacher was removed. It worked out well for me. As for as a student punching a me, I would say that it is not acceptable at all for we live in a society that morals and ethics are embedded into our DNA at this point. If such a case occurred then the appropriate non-violent approach has to be taken. That being said this I am teaching Kindergarten, and I have been punch head bunted more than my fair share of the time in the balls. I'm 6'5" tall, hazards abound for any job.

I see no reason why not. There are sadly situations that only violence can solve, whether its due to emotions running high, or a matter of self defence. Strange as it may sound, a good punch can do wonders from a clearing the air perspective.

To the OP: Was the choice of a teacher here just because of the recallable scene or for some other reason? Seems a little odd to me that you'd seperate out a group from the rest of humanity for their profession, but I could just be overthinking it.
More so the scene than anything. I guess you could apply this to other authority figures if you wanted to though.

I can and did.

I even kicked my principal.
Ditto.

Thankfully, I was a straight A student at the time and very young so they took it as a sign that I wasn't being challenged enough in class and put me up a year.

As a martial arts instructor I get hit by my students a lot. I guess karma's a ***** like that.

I did once. It felt good, not in a sadistic way, I feel he deserved it. He called both me and my best friend wankers and just bitched about us during our lessons, about 2 weeks in I snapped.

Ah well, atleast he doesn't bother me anymore.

Can you? Yeah, you can.
Should you? No.

At what point is it ever ok to punch anybody unless they are similarly threatening or have assaulted you physically? It is never ok to resort to physical violence simply because one lacks the intellect, wit or self-esteem to finish it with words, or non at all.

"Is it OK to punch a teacher?" reveals a very serious issue with people today raised on Hollywood and TV drama morality.

It´s not ok to punch anyone, that said i have punched a lot of people.
Some more deserving than others.
I have got punched, again sometimes more deserving than others.

People puches all the time, it´s more a question of time before one of those punches gonna end up in a teachers face.

You can´t punch someone for beeing a teacher, but you can punch that same person for beeing a douchebag, just don´t do it at school, AND don´t go to his house either, police won´t like that.

Just wait for a random encounter and strike, preferably when you don´t go to that school anymore.

2 things to keep in mind here. "sit by the river long enough and the bodies of you´re enimies will come floating by" and the classic "revenge is best served cold", icecold 20 years later. Learn how to hold a grudge. :)
No, you don't have a right to punch a person because they are, by your definition, a "douchebag". You can argue a right to use violence when you yourself were faced with it, but to use it as compensation for what is a clear lack of intellect or wit, is not a thing to be proud of.

And I have a feeling you are greatly misconstruing the intent of those quotes. Sit by the river long enough and EVERYBODY'S body will float by, especially if that river is the Ganges. The proverb says to have patience because your enemy will eventually destroy himself or be destroyed by someone other.

Punch whoever the hell you want, but accept the consequences.
There's a lot of sense in this comment, although my own, less combative position has been something more like:

'Don't punch anyone, then you don't have to deal with the consequences.'

Obviously if it's a matter of literal self defence, then yeah, OK, but generally I've found that life is so much easier if you just shrug things off and walk away.
There you go. A really good rule in life is to not hit people, unless they are physically threatening you or someone else. That is the only time they "deserve" it.

Because of this, the "could you punch a teacher" question is pretty pointless. If I were forced to, I'd hit anyone. "Teacher" holds no weight in my book. But, I will only ever hit someone if it is justifiable, meaning if they are a danger to me or others. Insults don't merit violence.

Apologies, ive not actually read the majority of this thread. Its late, I need to get some sleep soon lol.

Im not so inclined to punch in many situations. If I greatly dislike someone, then I do not want to be near them or come into contact with them, even with a fist. Much as I would like in certain cases to cause individuals great pain and humiliation, often they'll disgust me too much for that. That being said, I will whenever physically able defend myself if attacked. If they encrouch that much, they deserve the pain.

As for not hitting, due to someone being a teacher... it wont have anything to do with the decision. I never really understood that. To me, they are a person - I would react and judge their actions in the same way I would judge anyone else, their position has no standing. Though this attitude does not seem to be shared by most :p Ive got into alot of trouble due to my particular take on things.

I just dont understand the other side of it :/ They're people, same as anyone else - I treat them as such. An occupational title does not raise them above me or anyone else. I dont judge things that way.

I once punched a teacher by complete accident. I got a five day suspension.

Which they turned into a two day suspension, because it was an accident.

Which they changed into a one-day suspension, because the teachers liked me.

Which they changed into community service at one lunchtime, because it was a first time offense.

No, I would never, ever punch a teacher (again).

DON'T do this, or you'll turn into that crotchety, miserable old canker that everyone hates.

I think there are many more appropriate ways of dealing with that sort of situation that would only be hindered by a knee-jerk reaction such as socking them in the jaw. For example, if a teacher was verbally or physically attacking you, once you get out of the situation you could easily build a case to have them suspended, fired, arrested, or you could just sue them for everything they've got.

However, if you start brawling with them, then building any sort of case against them is likely to go nowhere fast (given it doesn't just get you into more trouble).
