William was sleeping until the screaming woke him up. He grabbed his sword and stormed out of the tent to see what was going on. He was happy he never slept without his armor off. He saw Bom clearly distressed about something. William listened to the conversation when he saw a couple of flying beast up ahead. "Further down the path, there are a number of flying beasts circling. They are beyond my reach and I am unfamiliar with the many creatures of this land." "let me have a look Claire" Rias said as she walked over to Claire. "Oh boy! Fromanzio gets to stab something! This is truly a magnificent hour!" William wasn't even surprised to hear something like that from Fromanzio. William walked over to Claire hoping that Rias could identify the beasts. William hadn't traveled through these lands often, and he was unfamiliar with the creatures. William looked at Rias "So do you know what those creatures are?" William wondered what they could be.

Claire turned to Fromanzio and shrugged her shoulders. "There are flying creatures further down the path which leads me to believe they are not monkeys - who's ever heard of a flying monkey after all?"

If they are flying monkeys, there needs to be a green witch with a hated of water

Bom thought about it for a moment.

"Do they look dangerous?"

It occured to him that they were lacking long-ranged weaponry. It might be nice to actually avoid a fight on this occasion.

Rias poked her head through Claire's portal and looked a round a little before spotting the creatures off in the distance, then ducked back out of the portal so Claire could close it "hard to tell from this distance but they are probably Vulture Griffons" she said with a light shrug


Karen

Karen sighed "so ... not good eating then?" she said more then asked, then went back into her tent to get dressed

Bom shrugged.

"So what's the plan then? Shall we go around them? Through them? I don't know if we are in a condition to fight off a bunch of killer birds. I think it might be a good idea to avoid them. Claire could look out, and we might be able to navigate a path through the forest."

Karen crawled back out, same lazy/half asleep look she had before, but she was dressed now

Claire looked to Bom and nodded her head. "I think that's a good plan, but I'd like to know what the screaming was first

Bom was already packing his gear up and getting ready to make a move.

"they're basically bigger vultures..."

"Well we better go see in that case. I mean, if whoever was screaming is already dead, they can't be much of a threat."

Rias answer his question with. "hard to tell from this distance but they are probably Vulture Griffons, they're basically bigger vultures, all they mean is something is dead or dieing" William hear Claire say "I think that's a good plan, but I'd like to know what the screaming was first" William looked at the beasts. "I agree let's go check it out. Also try to avoid a fight if you can we don't need to fight everything we see." William began to move closer to the beast trying to remain in cover hoping not to be spotted. If there was someone over there near the beast who needed help, they would help him or her. William was wearing his armor as usual. The small hole in his armor had been mostly covered up, but it was still a weak point.

"I agree let's go check it out. Also try to avoid a fight if you can we don't need to fight everything we see."

In which case; perhaps we get close enough that I can take a look through my portals? We could probably get close enough while keeping within the tree line." Claire suggested, thinking it through. She hoped they didn't continue to discuss the matter for too long; if the screaming she had heard was of human origin; there would be little time to waste.

Fromanzio looked at his ribs and sighed. "Normally, winged beasts wouldn't be much of a problem but Fromanzio might want to keep the getting slammed down to a minimum." Falling was no longer a problem, this gave Fromanzio tons of ideas.

"Actually, with Fromanzio's new and improved powers, wouldn't it be fun for Fromanzio to jump from a tall building such as a bell tower and land on someone with both knives being jammed in Fromanzio's opponent's neck? It would be glorious! William you have to let Fromanzio try that! He will give you...two bombs if you let him do this!"

Bom lumped his gear onto the mule.

"Alright lets get going. And Fromanzio, try to keep your voice down! We don't want to get spotted too soon."

After a minute or two of walking the group came across a sophronius village that was under attack by 5 savage sophronius, as well as 2 forest trolls, 10 raptor monkeys, 12 domestic spiders and a creature in the tree tops that moved two fast to be identified, it seemed to shoot spikes at anyone attempting to flew the area. A group of 8 sophronius were trying to defend the village but the invaders were having a very one sided fight.

In the centre two shamans were having a magic duel, there was no motion, no flare in spells, just two sophronius staring at each other as the air between them came heavily disrupted. One was black, with thick fur and a bone like wand, the other grey with slick like fur and a wooden staff the top of which was covered in leafs.

'I will put an end to this slaughter' The grey one yelled.

'You will never beat me my will is too strong for you' the black one yelled

'HA! I invented this magic, you will never beat me at it'

The fight seamed to be a stale mate.

The shamans, trolls and tree dwelling creature are all under boss rules until further notice. The monkey raptors and domestic spiders are no auto kill, and the savage sophronius are regular the enemies

Bom saw the battle and gave pause.

Sweet hell!

Bom had, over the last week, been in plenty of skirmishes. The sight of death itself was no bother to him - but an actual battle was something entirely different to behold. He didn't even know where to begin. He looked to the others for a decision, an order, anything.

as they came upon the village a grin grew on Karen's face, she'd already decide what she was gonna do "oh hell yeah ..." she said, almost drooling at the battle laid out before her "do what ever you want, I'm gonna go 'play' with the trolls" she said dropping her bag.

Rias took a look at the scene and sighed "so much for staying out of a fight..." she said as she formed a bow then loosing two arrows in rapid secession into the necks of two savage Sophronius, recalling the energy before they had a chance to react

Claire watched the scene intently, trying to analyze everything about it; mostly to avoid having to think about it. Thinking it through, one of the two shamans was most likely the enemy the Trent had mentioned. She had a guess which of the two it was, but the only way to be sure would be to ask him. As said Trent was not available, she could only play the odds and guess.



Not that it was hard; few "good" mages spoke of slaughtering entire towns.



A handful of ideas popped into her head on how to deal with the situation. The first was to just turn around and leave; but she suspected such an action would not draw much support from her compatriots, nor did she really wish to do so - to run from the dark mage was the same as to run from her duty. As she was about to explain her ideas, Karen and Rias made their moves.



Claire sighed, muttering "So much for the element of surprise". Rather then explain any ideas, she quickly opened a portal behind the more villainous of the two shamans, reached through, and tried to separate him from his staff. Knowing she was likely well out-matched by her opponent, she hoped this would distract the darker shaman long enough so his current opponent could finish him.

Two questions:

1) Are all mages considered enemies? I don't remember.

2) I'm assuming staffs are important for magic. If this is not the case, then rather then trying to steal the staff, Claire will try to stab him in the back; still more as a distraction then a real attempt at a killing blow.

The two savage sophronius turned around and faced rias, this allowed the sophronius fighting them to focus on the other creatures they were fighting. The savage sophronius satrted headign towards rias, tough without much of a rush.

The black shaman looked at Claire and said 'Fool what do you thi-' his eyes started dilating. 'Finally someone who sees my genius' The grey one yelled.

Rias

Rias paused for a moment, the presence of a 'true' shaman gave her enough reason to try to not kill them out right, 'maybe he can bring them back' she thought as she caused a pair of red 'pillars' to shoot out of the ground and into the heads of the two Savage one's, aiming to simply knock them out instead of kill them.

Karen

Karen grabbed the biggest rock she could find and threw it at the troll closest to her, aiming hit it in the head, followed by her charging it

William looked at the fight, it was clear who was good and who was bad. William grabbed his sword and he looked at his companions. This would be their hardest fight yet. William charged at the troll which Karen wasn't fighting again. William used his power to create an cloud.. his power felt off. William stopped for a moment to look at the ash, it was acting strange. Was this happening because of the shaman? The ash seemed more coordinated it moved faster and more focused. William was thinking about his shield when it happend.

The ash began to from something like an shield, the shield William had been thinking about. It fell apart shortly after, William was intrigued by this strange feeling when he focused back on the troll. William charged at the troll looking at his eyes, suddenly the ash flew from the cloud it headed towards the trolls eyes. William was wondering what was happening, but all the help they could get was needed. William headed toward the trolls feet hoping he would be blinded by the ash, he tried to reach the troll and cut its feet after that jumping away to avoid retaliation.

As the others charged forward, Bom decided on an enemy. Seeing the Sophronious advance on Rias, he ran to join her. She would need the help. Bom lacked anything in the way of a weapon. He scowered the ground for anything that might help, but he saw nothing particularly useful for fending the Sophronius off.

He wasn't feeling confident. In fact he wasn't feeling well at all. It was that familiar sensation in his gut that showed up whenever his power kicked in. Oh, that's great. He stepped back, expecting the inevitable squelch of bugs under foot. That didn't happen. Surprised, Bom looked down at the ground...
