Hi, I am Sigel. I been on the forums for only a couple of months now, but I lurked for almost a year. I mostly stay in the Off Topic and Gaming section, and you might have seen me on "Throw Something" and "In My Defense". I generally try to be polite and helpful when I am on the forums.
I like all different kind of stuff and all different kinds of people. I particularly like this forum for all its different view points. I am kind of a "jack of all trades" nerd. I am into gaming, D&D, manga, anime, graphic novels, convention, etc... I like all different types of music, love kittens and other baby animals, love getting high fives/hugs/cookies, love movies, like parties but prefer pubs, love karaoke, love to dance in the rain but only when no one is looking, love to talk about religion but hate to practice it, love drinking/smoking/drugs but no longer does any of it, love to drive but hate traffic and cyclist, and lots more. :)
So feel free to drop me a line, if you want to talk to me. :D

Oh yes, a hundred times yes. It's something in particular I noticed on a text-based MMO I've played for the last half a decade. Six months is a very long time. Five years is a century of changes, of evolution. So much of this is due to the instant response time of the medium.

Well as I have an opportunity to talk about myself without being accused of being indulgent/narcissistic, I am the SmartIdiot. This name makes sense as I am intelligent yet I often disregard common sense as it's a lot more fun that way. Can often be seen making half-serious replies to threads I never gave a crap about in the first place or just slating things altogether and ranting about music.

Also a rabid Gallows fan incase you didn't notice...

That was the gist of his post, after all.
I think that was just the specific post he was banned for but had been on the mod's bad side for some time.

Anyway, nice idea for a thread to bridge the generational gap. While it hasn't quite channelled the hordes of Escapist users, it at least seems to have attracted a few non-gonzos. It definitely gets a bit cliquey round here, but for some reason I'm not as opposed to it as I am when it occurs in real life. There's an inevitable turnover of members in an environment that doesn't easily invoke a sense of tangible responsibility, but any new members who come in and retains a sense of empathy is welcomed by me.

I'm not quite sure which Escapist generation I'm from. I've lurked since late 07, joined up in early 08 but I only started to make an actual effort to become a part of the community in the last few months or so. I see myself as quite similar to Krunk (but without a clear point where I broke into the community) : someone in the background. I like to think I'm relatively well known in User Reviews but my low output level and recent non-presence may have changed that (Incredibly Bullshitting Man, you're right, the accelerated internet society is scary).

And Krunk, never seen you around on IRC. You go under a different name there or are we just never on at the same time?

Hello! I'm Random argument man (Or RAM for short). I've been here since 2008. I'm usually one of those guys that people knows a bit.

To make things easier for you. I'll make a list of things you will notice about me.

1.Me and Incredible Bullshitting Man are in a constant de-rail war. We tend to joke between threads and it tends to get a little messy. You'll either find it funny or just ignore us.

2.I have the Bob Dylan avatar. No one else, GOT THAT?

3.Sometimes, when I feel like it, I will argue with you until I win. I expect you to do the same.

4.I tend to leave a goodbye songs for trolls, flamers, idiots and the rest. It's fun and it gives some good laughs sometimes.

Hi, I'm DrDeath3191. I joined back in March of this year. I just basically wander around the forums just posting in whatever interests me... yeah, that's about all you need to know!

Part of the reason for my slim post count is that any Escapism I indulge in has to be crobarred into my schedule as a research chemist. Chemistry, as I should warn all those interested in getting into it, (what, no rush of eager volunteers? =P) takes an enjoyable but prohibitively long time to research ;-). Outside the lab, when I get the chance to see natural light and not live in a slightly chilled vacuum, I play in an orchestra and do ballet - and game of course!
Another chemistry type? We've got a few of you poor, poor souls here. I almost was one myself, but saw the Biology/professional grad school light before it was too late. Got out just in time to avoid taking the dreaded P-chem.
You mean physical chemistry? =)
I've never understood the hate for Phys. Chem; it's the best bit! I too shall be a research chemist when I go back to Uni in ooh... two days. Should be fun.

Anyway, I've been around for a while; visited the site because of Yahtzee, stayed for the forums (the same as basically everyone here). If there's a maths or science thread, I'll normally post in it (normally correcting someone's misunderstanding). Oh, and I sometimes forget to put [/sarcasm] tags at the end of what I say (they should be implied for about 90% of my posts, but some people apparently miss that).

Hi I'm Lowen and I'm an alcoholic -

Not really, interesting fact about me I'm allergic to alcohol. So I consider a person buying me a drink a death threat.

I joined early this year much in the same way everyone else did. I enjoyed the stylings of Yahtzee and noticed interesting thread topics on the side. After a month of reading I finally made an account. I was on Rotten Tomatoes before that and everyone was not very nice, then again neither was I. But I find the escapees (well most of you) to be a delectable bunch.

I'm a psychologist based in Sydney Australia, well I will be officially when I finish my doctorate. And you people don't realize it but I've been studying and observing the lot of you's for a while for a thesis. I enjoy discussion and am a naturally argumentative person, and though I'm not quick to flame if you disagree with me you sure better have a strong basis for your argument.

I'm not very well known throughout the community, despite me being here longer than a lot of people I have a considerably lower post count. I make overly long threads and don't like to post unless it will mean something.

I play games a lot, and feel free to add my Xbox Live account - Frusciante Rox.

Instant response time added to the overwhelming number of respondents. I´m not very familiar with MMOs (text-based or otherwise), but I guess it´s kinda like posting in an Internet forum, especially when it comes to ones perception of time. You have been here nearly two years. At one time I thought, that is almost like an eternity. Imagine my confused embarrassment, when I remembered how long two years last; not very long. Access to the Internet does funny things to you.

Ah yes, anonymity sets us (at least partially) free from responsibility. But it also seems to obscure the way one sees other posters. Facelessness leaves so many gaps, which one has to fill in with vague impressions, expectations and misleading information. For example, I have always regarded you as one of the big names of The Escapist community. You have kept the same avatar for quite some time now, you know quite well (I believe) other big names, post count is over thousand (that´s a big number), and you joined before 2009. Based on these individual pieces of information I have formed my rather obscured impression of you, and that impression probably is as far away from the reality as I am from the moon. Another thing this thread is excellent for, is breaking some of the illusions we have about each other.

You seemed to have missed something. I fixed it for you.

Oh, and you may shorten my name to just IBM. It goes so well together with RAM, in a nerdy kind of way.

EDIT: Bugger off Labyrinth, Empathy was my call.
Just an unnecessary aside to say that the resulting fight from this should be awesome.
What do you think we're planning for the Epic Shenanigans at Escapism this year? Hell, I think I might bring my bansword and all. It will be awesome.
I thought it was going to be a screwdriver?

Hi, I'm Jedámethis. I'm awesome.

Definitely agree there. It's tricky to form any kind of judgements about people based on the isolated elements of themselves they expose on a public forum. I like to think I'm quite an open person anyway, so don't expect any crushing revelations from me that wouldn't be disclosed through any other means, but if this thread smashes some pre-conceptions then it's serving a good cause.

Beats me how you thought I was one of the "faces" around the site though. I like to think I'm on friendly terms with several members, some of them well known (I still find it quite hard to precisely define my relationships with people on the web). Most of them gonzos, but I believe that to be a result of their high activity on the site (more chance of running into me). I'm probably just the equivalent of a kid who tries to hang around the popular kids at school, attempting to bask in reflected glory.

Here's a nugget of information about myself to share with the thread: I actually see myself as quite a restrained poster.

Anyway, that's enough insular discussion (pleasure to meet you regardless, IBM).

And welcome, T5seconds. Glad to see another Pacino fan about. There's at least three on the site with avatars of the great man. Give it a few years and we can split off and form our own clique (or, failing that, user group).

Yes. That's exactly what I meant.

*shudders*

I was reading course surveys of P-chem, and found a text response that read "It was the hardest thing I've ever done. Not academically either - it's the hardest thing I've ever done in my life." I'm not sad that I dodged the class.

I fixed it up for you though.

I've been on the forum for about a year but i haven't really done much on it until i started using the IRC and then became a Skogry/BreadBox Box member.I guess i'm seen as the quiet guy who occasionally says something rather funny...i think.

I don't know entirely know where i "fit" but then again,i may need to post more.
I mainly post on the off-topic threads especially if its in relation to music or Film.

Good evening people. My name is Ph3onix, Prophet, Lukac. I joined 12 months ago and because no one here (except danny, phoenix, word, ollie and the old Darth Mobius) cares about me, I still am not, nor will I ever become, a part of the community. Now that I've said that I can say that I love Pendulum, BioWare, Valve and Bethesda.
