Cars 2 could be Pixar's first flop.

I might be the only one thinking this, but Cars 2 doesn't look good at all, the trailers I've seen have only made me shake my head.

I didn't really care for the first Cars (I really didn't like the characters, especially Mater), so it baffles me that Pixar would choose this of all their movies to get a sequel. If any of their movies deserves a sequel, it should be The Incredibles, because they still have a lot they could do with that.

I could be wrong, I mean I thought Toy Story 3 was gonna suck, but man was I proven wrong with that one. So what do you guys think?

EDIT: Like I said a little ways down: "I guess I should define "flop" better. I have no doubt that it will make tons of money, I just think that the adult audience and the critics are going to hate it."

Cars looked like the stupidest movie Pixar had ever made, so I didn't see it.
I'm definitely not seeing a sequel to what looked like the stupidest movie Pixar had ever made, so I'll just ignore the trailers and wait for the next animated movie that looks interesting.

They did it for the merchandise sales. Honest, you can't make much bank on Up, there's only Russell, the Old Guy, that Bird, and the Dog; very few characters to sell.
Toy Story 3 offers all of those toys to be sold, and Cars 2 will have a crapload of cars that they can cash in on in toy sales. Pixar is kinda becoming a sell-out, though I blame Disney

It's hardly going to flop, kids will love it, like they did the original. And I don't mind the odd crappy sequel like cars if we still get films like Wall-E, Up, Toy story 3...

There is a secret video at http://www.chromea113.com that shows a pretty awesome chase scene from Cars 2. It raised my respect for the movie just a bit.

I admit, though, I have my doubts at well. This seems to be the most..."gimmicky" movie Pixar has approached. I was particularly urked when the trailer said something along the lines of "Now they're racing to save the world."

But, it's Pixar, and they haven't let us down yet. I'm going to try and approach Cars 2 with as much optimism as possible :)

I hated the trailers for the original Cars, saw it, and liked it. Trailers for kids movies don't really focus on the aspects that grown people would like too often, unfortunately. So I do think that the second Cars will at least be decent.

I thought Cars was a good movie, and I'm not even into automobiles. It's certainly not Pixar's best, but I thought it was better than some of their films, like Monsters Inc. and Finding Nemo.

*dodges tomatoes*

Wait, I thought those were good films too! I just felt Cars was better, that's all.

Bruce Campbell is doing some voice work in Cars 2 therefore the film will be worth seeing.

As much as I love Pixar, I'm afraid this might be true. Then again when I saw the previews of Up and Ratatoullie, I thought those movies were gonna suck too, cause really, those previews looked really stupid at the time. However, the fact that Cars was Pixars least popular movie, I'm guessing it really is gonna suck. Hope Pixar proves me wrong again.

Well, I think the reason they wanted a sequel was because merchandising revenue was starting to slow down. Seriously, I think Cars made more on merchandising than Toy Story.

I heard this info 2nd hand so my sources are sketchy.

I didn't really like Cars, but i can't say Pixar has ever made a BAD movie.
I might cry if they ruin their perfect record.

Geez, what the hell.
Some serious "I am disappoint" goin' on in this thread.

Am I the only one who loved Cars? That movie was brilliant.

Have yet to see a Pixar movie I haven't liked.

While Cars was probably the worst Pixar movie in my opinion, it was still pretty good. That really says something about the quality of films they produce I think.

I'm sure I will see it, but wait until its out on DVD.

My nephew loves Cars and most of his friends do. Just doing it for the merchandising sales. I just hope they keep making the good movies too.

I didn't like the first at all so this would be their second flop in my eyes. I guess if you're a young car buff it would be attractive to you but not to me.
