Yes, because starting an online petition is so much power. Why are we even having this in the news section when any nut with a facebook account can start whatever petition they want on that site?
EDIT: For example, here's one wanting Oscar the grouch from the same show to become a Christan.

If they want Bert and Ernie to be gay, despite the fact that they're not, and then get married, maybe we should also go all the way with it.

Maybe we should sew little felt penises on the puppets.
Maybe we should also discuss the issues that sometimes, the mouth and the anus is also used in expressing a man's love to another man.
Maybe we should have a scene where a black man is crying because he remembers when the white man made his ancestors slaves.

The list goes on and on and when you open up the reasoning of realism for realism's sake, it can get very unpleasant. The people here are right about not needing to explain homosexuality at the target audience's age.

Gay couples should just let their kids watch Avenue Q. I'm sure they'll get what they want from there.

NO ONE PETITION SHOULD HAVE ALL THIS POWER

The petition doesn't matter, it's that they're actually trying to make it happen.

EDIT: Yeah, and fuck him too.

*facepalm* Its stuff like this that gives the Christians/Republicans their ammunition for the "Homosexual Agenda" claims. Yes we should be introducing children to the concept of homosexuality earlier so they can make their own choices about it rather than just letting their parents beat their philosophy into them, which as the article has stated has caused many young and confused people to turn to suicide, but this is not the way. Introduce a gay character to the show, great, do that and do it in a mature fashion, but "outing" Bert and Ernie is just silly.

Roommates? I thought Bert was just taking care of a mentally handicapped guy.
I thought the same thing, now I feel silly.

OT: I feel like I should be laughing since this is the most ridiculous thing I've heard in a while, then I realized they weren't kidding. First Cookie Monster, and now this. It's Sesame Street, Sesame Street, leave them the hell alone!

Once again, it's possible to have a gay marriage in the show without addressing homosexuality.
I don't think it belongs in this show, but it could be done.

If they're going to apply real world concepts like active sexualities to fictional children's puppets, what's going to happen to the rest of Sesame Street?

Is Oscar the Grouch going to be put on benefits and moved into sheltered accommodation, or is he going to be charged with vagrancy and jailed?

Come to think of it, if all the characters now have sexuality then Oscar the Grouch will probably have to be jailed for the sake of the children... there's something not quite right about a Hobo who lives in a bin and keeps luring children to his alley.

Big Bird is looking quite suspicious too... he may act friendly towards the kids, but how sure can you be of the sexuality and motives of a giant Bird (who I assume, like most members of the the Avian Kingdom, is sexually active and has a breeding age of 2-3 years old)?

Then again, could they really blame Big Bird? It's not his fault that what is normal for him, his beautiful sexuality, is at odds with state laws and human morals.

I also hope The Count has all his visas in check, or it's back to Eastern Europe for that creepy weirdo.

They're already applying real world concepts in an appropriate manner.
For example, Kami from the South African version of the show has AIDs and it was explained in a kid-friendly manner. And it's already been mentioned, but cookie monster is now eating vegetables and saying cookies are a sometimes food in order to combat obesity. I think you're assuming too much.

Yeah why not, let's make cookie monster go to rehab while we're at it.

Dear world,

WE DO NOT NEED TO INTRODUCE SEXUALITY TO SESAME STREET. THAT IS NOT THE POINT OF THE SHOW.

Kids can wait until they hit their teens before being exposed to that stuff. That's when it's important. And no teen watches sesame street unless they have a younger brother or sister.

Yeah, that's pretty god damn retarded.

Still, I suppose one can't blame people for trying to get their particular special interest served. It's not like anyone have to - or will - listen to this request, so it's probably more about raising awareness of that whole gay teen suicide business, in that typical hyperbolic fashion used in American rhetorics.

...or just some good ol' trolling.

Why do a lot of people think having gay characters in a show means explaining sexuality?
There are straight characters all the time in kids' shows and yet we aren't explaining that the penis goes in the vagina at that age.
IF Sesame Street did this, it would be a simple explanation and not going into a lot of detail.
That's how the rest of the show is. The Count teaches numbers, not calculus. There's a letter of the day, not a Shakespearean vocab word.

Why must everything be turned into a minority ass pat with these far left groups now?
First they're mashing as many minorities as they can down the new Spiderman's throat and now they're demanding that a toddler's tv show turn their characters gay for some cheesy message?

All roommates must be married . . . . it's like the opposite of that old TV rule where married couples had to have separate beds.
