THEY'RE JUST BROS!!! THEY'RE BASICALLY COLLEGE ROOMMATES FOR SH*TS SAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sheesh people.
also, it doesnt affect the show in any way because kids at that age probably dont understand the concept of sexuality.The_root_of_all_evil said:/facepalm
Let me see if I can explain this.
Back in 1965, there was a stage play called "The Odd Couple", which featured one neat/neurotic room-mate and one slovenly/sloppy room-mate. The entire idea was that the neat one brought order to the other's life, while the slovely one brought fun to the neat one's life.
But they WEREN'T GAY.
Neither is Starsky and Hutch (though David Soul is), Xena and Gabrielle, Fonz and Richie, Laverne and Shirley, Barney and Fred, Ren and Stimpy or Batman and Robin.
They just aren't.
It doesn't matter how much slash shipping and decreements you make about how it would be "better". They aren't. And making them that way would not only hurt the characters, but show that a character's sexuality is dependent on the prevailing thoughts of the time.
This. Is. Wrong.
No matter how you roll that particular dice. Equally, Will and Grace will not get it off, because he's gay and she's a woman.
Like many other shows, we also have to bring in the very basic idea that THEY ARE PUPPETS.
They do not have a sexuality because they don't have sex. They just don't. Get over it.
They don't even have a viable gender. It's like the cretinous idea of making the Cookie Monster eat healthy food.
HE'S A MONSTER THAT EATS COOKIES. IF YOU REMOVE COOKIES FROM HIS DIET, HE DIES.
Do you want to kill the Cookie Monster? Do you? Do you really want that on you conscience?

Bert and Ernie are muppets. They are not male. They do not have sex. Therefore they are not and cannot be gay. Let alone married.
Leave them alone. Ernie's never going to leave Duckie anyway.

kermit and miss piggy were undeniably hetero, unless one of them was pre-op transgendered (and the other one knew). they were also zoophiles.mental_looney said:I always thought they were bothers or just friends, i mean none of the other puppets have any kind of sexual orientatation, if they want it in the program have it be one of the humans not a puppet
To be honest, that right there actually rekindles some faith for me in the media. In today's world of 'making everything a message' and 'enlightening children' to the oddities of the world, teaching children that there can be two mommy and two daddy families and everything under the sun at age 2 or younger...seeing Sesame Street willing to say that Bert and Ernie aren't going to deal with that issue is almost heartwarming.Andy Chalk said:"Bert and Ernie are best friends. They were created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves," the statement said. "Even though they are identified as male characters and possess many human traits and characteristics... they remain puppets, and do not have a sexual orientation."
I think we can question it. Miss Piggy was interested in "little kermie" (Mammals and Amphibians?) but it was always unclear whether her feelings were returned. And Miss Piggy would flirt with anything in trou...that had legs...frogs legs...and Dr Julius StrangePork.TrilbyWill said:kermit and miss piggy were undeniably hetero,
I'm guessing you just saw LGBT and assumed that it was the work of a liberal.2012 Wont Happen said:This is why I can't claim to be fond of Liberals. I mean, I suppose I prefer them to Conservatives, but at least Conservative stupidity acts overtly against the Left. When Liberals do stupid shit, decent, hardworking Socialists and Communists somehow get lumped in with it.
This comes to mind:

I know it isn't the same topic really, but it still comes to mind.
it gives a whole new perspectiveCrematedCube said:This is a bit ridiculous. I mean... imagine this demand being put on any other male characters who have lived together.
Imagine their creators being petitioned to pair off these two just because some part of the audience (not even the target audience) says so.
Look between a Muppet's legs and you will find a man's hand up their ass.Sarcastic_Applause said:"... they remain puppets, and do not have a sexual orientation."
Wait What?
Ah, you beat me to it. Bert and Ernie are basically Sesame Street's answer to Oscar Madison and Felix Ungar.Treblaine said:it gives a whole new perspective
