Sigh, can this topic be locked? All I see this going is to anti-American bullshit. I know there is more then 39% of people who believe in evolution here. It's probably just some asshole in power pulling facts out of his ass. Or the .uk I see in there could be someone who hates America pulling numbers.
Don't mistake the population of the Escapist for the population of America. The strata is a whole lot different. The majority of Escapists, from what I see, are atheistic or agnostic. There are a few religious people on here, but they aren't really anywhere close to the majority. From what I've seen, heard, read and experienced, the opposite is true in the US.

Also, just because you don't like the statistics doesn't mean that they're false. They may well not be entirely accurate to your local area, but remember that they're representative of the entire US.

Also, why are Americans always so paranoid about things being 'anti-American'? Are you all so insecure that you can't take a bit of a ribbing?

To me evolution is pretty basic

Kansas "back in the day" made a law making it illegal to teach evolution in schools.....they had a trial about it and the defendant found an extreme amount of flaws in creationism theory and the bible.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scopes_Trial

only 39% believe it, well i thought it was only the mid-west america that were so extremely religious, obviously not. Here's a comparison

I'm sure Hitler was religious and not an Atheist. I remember watching movies at schools where on Public buildings they had Jesus on crucifix on the doors with the sign ?No Jews allowed? under it.

Like or loath Darwin's theory, it changed the world and his story deserves to be told.
Hitler was an extreemly devout Catholic. The Nazi propoganda folks once tried to make him seem like the second coming of Jesus.
He also believed in Galtonism, not Darwinism, and the scientific comunity never accepted Galtonism.

I'm going to have make sure I see this film.

I feel that it's highly hipocritical for morons who belive that circular logic = truth to ever call a theory backed up by fossil records "half-baked".

Issac Newton "theorised" that there was a force on earth that kept us here and on the ground, after some deep thought and a serving of fruit, he experimented on his theory and discovered that gravity actually existed.
LOL :D sorry i found that ironic because in your (none hateful)anti-christian rant out of all the scientists you used Issac Newton the guy who was secretly a zealot a hardcore believer but never came out because he was afraid of being branded a heretic (he didn't believe in the "trinity" he was a "one god" kinda guy). they actually found this out recently when his diaries were finally relieased to the public.

This isn't about Christians. Most Christians aren't THAT stupid. This is about Creationists. And I'm not to beat around the bush, Creationists are morons.

Welcome to the escapist!

Anyways... sucks to be an American, I'd invite you all to Australia but you'd probably be killed by at least three animals as soon as you left the airport carpark... it's not safe here.
Of coarse it's not safe, Yahtzee lives there. There's a good reason he's not living in our country anymore.

But there aren't any Christians in any other country making this sort of fuss... Christianity is worldwide, but the only Christians raising hell over this are American ones. That alone is a pretty good indicator that the issue is American rather than Christian.

Just because it has happened in America doesn't mean it the americans fault...
This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

How many times must I point out that not all Americans are the same!? The idiocy of the many should not hinder the intelligence of the few. (Though this time its not at people here so yeah...)

Less hate, more discussion.
eh not so much hate just a bunch of americans going "goddamn it" and a bunch of christians saying "well thats weird"
My apologies, after a while my mercy subroutines fail and I see only hate in all around me. In the sky, in my fridge, in my dog. I see only the hate of a black apocalypse and the singing rage of a million vengeful angels. I am consumed by the pounding heartbeat of the fury of a universe.

Also, this is pretty blatant thread derailment on my part. Don't reply to this. I'm issuing myself a warning. That will teach me.
You see hate inside of your fridge and dog? Wow!

Why is it that America is so hypocritical? The people who are essentially blaming Darwin for the Nazi atrocities are probably the same people who want Obama's healthcare reforms to fail, which I consider indirect murder.

I truly feel sorry for Americans who face-palm every time something like this happens.
I'm an immigrant in the US and what you just said is me every day . When I moved here I might as well have plastered my face to my palm for all the face-palming I do. This country is retarded beyond all hell.

I live in Iowa. And brother, trust me, we are a lot more tolerant and intelligent than most of the elitist asses that come from NYC and LA/San Fran and call us morons. We still have gay marriage, so California can shove it.

I thought that percentage was higher.

Look, I'm a Catholic and I believe the theory of evolution. People need to be able to at least hear what the theory is before blocking it.

We are not the only over-religious place, and if its not Christians, its someone else. Also, the Vattican is in Italy, and the Pope is just as bad as Christians here.

That isn't how people work. We generalise and characterise based on majorities. If most Americans are religious hicks, then that's how America, by and large, is. Obviously there are exceptions, but you have to remember that they are still exceptions. In this case, the idiocy if the many is very much hindering the intelligence of the few, and that is an entirely American problem in this situation.
