I couldn't care less about the anime & manga industries but legislating morality is never a good idea. Worse still is legislating at the level where parents should be taking action to protect their kids.
Even if I disliked anime this would be horrible for it is killing a art form.Gildan Bladeborn said:Oh noes, this is horrible!!
...is what I would be saying if I actually gave a crap about anime or manga. Which I do not. In point of fact, I have a well known antipathy for the entire medium, so news that potential legislation could cripple the whole darn industry doesn't really have a downside from my perspective. Yay censorship (that undermines things I dislike).
*cough* if it passes bring the industry to the states, we'll give it a home.Daystar Clarion said:EDIT: My bad, ignore post.

Parents need to start taking responsibility, and stop blaming the media, tv, video games, etc. for their failures.
Excellent response there, sir. I was struggling to come up with something un-crazy to say about the whole "fucking weeaboos" and "anime suxors, who gives a shit" posts, but you summed it up quite well.DarkRyter said:"Freedom to write, freedom to read, freedom to own material that you believe is worth defending means you're going to have to stand up for stuff you don't believe is worth defending, even stuff you find actively distasteful, because laws are big blunt instruments that do not differentiate between what you like and what you don't, because prosecutors are humans and bear grudges and fight for re-election, because one person's obscenity is another person's art." ~Neil Gaiman.Gildan Bladeborn said:Oh noes, this is horrible!!

If we're gonna cry out against censorship, we gotta go all the way. The enemy of your enemy is not your friend, and even if they censor shit you hate, that does not mean you stand idly by. If you cannot protect something you don't care about, how can you protect something you do care about?
I like how you chose a Nanoha pic for the first one. Honestly, of all the magical girl animes to choose, you picked the one who focuses on actual characterization and storytelling.John Funk said:*snip*

First of all, I'll start with this sentence here by inserting something I don't care about and something I do care about into the proper places; then we'll see how this inspiring sentence sounds.DarkRyter said:If you cannot protect something you don't care about, how can you protect something you do care about?
Btw the gunman missed all of his shots. Security shot him then he shot himself.Hatchet90 said:This was on the Evening News where I live, if we ban violent video games why not ban news from being told?
