I would happily convert to Pastafarianism.

Do we get to talk like pirates aswell as rock the attire?
Arr, we do indeed, me heartie. T'will be a glorious day when those landlubbers begin to understand us in the ways which will let us plunder all their hidden treasures.

Arr.

yep, i was in a mosque in turkey with a picture with similar writing, and it was placed high on a wall, this girl had similar writing on her art work and no one could be 'geographically positioned below her work'

thanks for the welcome btw, ive been on this site many times but this is the first time ive been compelled to comment
Sure thing, and hat's a bit strange, I mean is that not worshipping an icon in that they worship the writing rather than Allah?
well it wasnt that your meant to worship the writing it was just meant to be holy and a rule of the muslim faith is that this writing (its in a particular style cant rember wnat it looked like), can never bee looked at from a geographically lower position.

i mean, when i was in the mosque in turkey i was fine with it, when your in someone elses country and place of worship you respect theyre beliefs, but this was in a school in England.

as i say, i dont actually have a problem with people dressing in a way that mirrors thyre religion, which is why this kid was in the right, but people should not be allowed to force people to bend to the rules of theyre religion when in a secular public place such as school (unless its a faith school obviously).

What about the people who DON'T drink beer?
I can answer this one. The Beer is magical and will taste like anything you want it to taste like, it could taste like a Strawberry milkshake, or a nice cup of tea or even your favorite paint thinner, so it will always be the perfect drink to sate your desire for a drink at that moment.

Do I think this is completely ridiculous? Yes.

Does that make it right? No.

I am a Protestant, I believe in Christ and the Christian theory of intelligent design. It is not my place to decide what others believe for them. If you want to believe that a flying spaghetti monster created the universe, then go ahead. If you want my opinion, I'll give it, if you want to hear wha I have to say on the subject, I'll tell you.

But if I think your religion is silly, then that's my own business until you ask me what I think.

The school had no right to suspend him for dressing in religious attire, no matter what they thought of his beliefs.

Nothing can disprove Pastafarianism so it is equally viable.

To those claiming it is a parody religion, I would like you to disprove my claim that Christianity is a parody of Judaism.
wow.... never thought of that actually...

You can't just make up your own religion and expect people to heed to your beliefs without question.
Perhaps the same could be said of all religions.

They were all made up by somebody.
Your words are as empty as your soul!

Was that a jab or an excuse to quote?

Defending a NOODLE GOD?

Goodbye, I have lost faith in the Escapist. I'm going to go make up a religion where I have to be seen as a crossdresser, just so that you can all say how awesome I am as well. I look forward to that day.

Idiots.

Good.

Nothing makes my day like seeing a smarmy little wiseass singled out for further abuse and degradation until he gets the clue that NOBODY cares about his desire to attract attention by exploiting rules meant to keep a professional education or otherwise public environment civil and running with a modicum of efficiency.

"Look at me! I'm special!"

Yes, you are. So what? We've got a couple hundred other people here who are just as special and they are trying to get through the day without some dipstick prancing through class in a puffy shirt.

I mean people, please, a PIRATE COSTUME? "Pastafarianism"?? What a doofus.

Yeah, I absolutely agree that the kid's quite a prick. Modern Jews, Christians and the like do accept evolution though by the way.
There's certainly quite a few Christians around who aren't "modern."
Yeah, but no one cares what the rabid fundies think.

Hey, there's no school uniform in American schools either (as far as I know) so who says he can't wear a pirate costume?

It'd be different if he lived here in the UK because of the uniform policies here.

You pretty much just summed up how I feel about a lot of the comments in this topic.
The kid's a fucking prick, I don't see how you can defend him.

The school dress code contract that he signed at the beggining of the school year says so.

What makes one religion 'real' and another 'not real'? I get the whole FSM thing is a bit silly, but there's a whole sliding scale of silliness between that and the more 'mainstream' stuff. Scientology, that weird David Icke lizard man thing, whatever Madonna is following this week etc. Who draws the line?
That weird lizard-man thing isn't a religion, but nevertheless it's mind-boggling that people eat that shit up. I'm not sure how exactly to define a religion, but I'm pretty sure no reasonable person would put Pastafarianism alongside, say, Hinduism. I get that the point is "well other religions are just as weird" (Hinduism is pretty fucking weird by the way) but they don't actually believe any of it. That kid most certainly did not think pirate regalia was essential to his "religion", he was just being a smart ass little prick.

But then, of course, there's Jedi. I'm not sure how seriously Jedi take themselves, but that one looks like it might actually be a legit religion. It is pretty tough to see where to draw the line, when you've got weird shit like Jedi running around.

It was mildly amusing, about three years ago.

Spoilsports aren't they? Well, I'll just sit here and quietly laugh to myself.
