They're communists... that pretty much sums up my hatred for the nation. (Not the people just the disgusting puppetry of the whole situation)
when the communists took over the people actually were fed for once. no communists- no food. communists-food
so dont hate on them without considering that

I was told that when i was in prague....Now it is a tourist hole, and there are the haves and the have nots....to paraphrase "During communism we had nothing, but at least we all had something"
While Communism is a great idea on paper, it could never be done in real life due to a little thing called human nature.
It's exactly the same with capitalism.
Very true, but then all economic systems are flawed in that respect.
Besides Capitalism and Communism, there are only two other economic systems, the Traditional Economy and the Mixed Economy. Capitalism and Communism are both very flawed, but you should keep in mind that there are only two more economic systems.

Even despite all the advancement and blah blah blah, i still have an entire Lays factory on my shoulder regarding China. For me, a good - maybe not perfect, but good - form of gonverment would be economic system leaning towards socialism, and democracy as political system. China, on the other hand, is a dictatorship leaning towards capitalism. And it only gets worse from there.

I do not like this country, and won't welcome them as main global superpower.

I can't believe that it's the nation that once invented silk, paper, and gunpowder.

OT: Hmm. I really have no opinion. They are and economic superpower, and are extremely unstable.

I say we should fear them
Or Stare into their souls

China has an interesting history. Nice food and swords . Need I say more?

I really don't think China will last much longer. The government is trying to keep it quiet, but protests, riots, etc. aren't too uncommon. Only a matter of time before the people snap.
Where they gonna get there weapons?

There censorship is just being plain out controlling jerks in my opinion.
But US has a debt and they don't so I guess we need to adjust things a bit in US. There government has is not afraid to be dictators which isn't a trait US has much... (I want every rich person in US who isn't paying taxes to stop using there damn loop holes!!)
Everybody loves kung-fu fighting.

No, no, no. I dislike china because I dislike censorship and oppression of human rights. Otherwise china is fine. (i'm chinese btw) But anyways. China WILL NOT i repeat WILL NOT try to actively invade the US or try to get into any conflicts with it. Why? For one the us military is more technologically advanced and has the ability to pre-strike any attempts at an invasion of any kind. Secondly they would be instantly scorned by the rest of the world and a shat load of embargoes and antagonism would ensue basically turning china into north korea only about 20 times larger. So no, there is not threat of china using military invasion. There is the high possibility of a chinese revolt i would say. And there is also a good chance china will usurp Europe and the US as GDP king.

just like anyother communist country the leaders are terrified to lose thier power... and they're oppressing the people to keep it. I feel terrible for the people of china what want the freedoms that we take for granted everyday.

Some of us don't take those freedoms for granted man.

I greatly appreciate the freedoms that we do still hold on to.

Basically, because of China's one child policy, many families only wanted to have male children, who would carry on their family names. This means that many baby girls were given up for adoptions, and adopted into other countries, or, were flat out killed.

I would actually say that civil war is much more likely than any of those things.

A very very young country that's still trying to find its way. Very little in terms of cultural and social developments. A government that knows very little about anything except to hold power, combined with a citizenry that cares about very little except to make money and invest it in something. Great economical growth, achieved through the over-exploitation of the natural resources of it's weaker neighbors and, to a lesser extent, it's own resources.
Pretty much a combination of these.

I've also been told that they don't have full internet access over there, which says to me that they're kept in the dark about the rest of the world. Communism's also probably not actually a good thing. Great idea on paper, not so much in practice.

Kinda vague. A couple friends of mine taught English there.

Apparently, their driving is terrible and the pollution was ghastly.

Beautiful scenery. Terrible history with the Japanese. Communist.

Personally, I wish NATO would have given Chiang Kai-Shek a lot more aide in the 40s and 50s so they could defeat Mao's communist regime. They would have stayed a capitalist state, the Cult of Mao would be just a "what-if" theory, 30 million people would still be alive because there wouldn't be famine caused by the Cultural Revolution and Great Leap BackwardForward. There would also be a more balanced male-female ratio. Yes, Chiang was a mean ************, but he wasn't in the same ranks as say Mao, Hitler, or Stalin.

I also wish the British would have amended their mandate of Hong Kong. It is the most developed sector of China for a reason. The People's Republic has ruined it and its only going to get worse.
See, the problem with looking at alternate history is that you have to consider what else would have happened. Seeing Chiang Kai-Sheks tract record, you would have had an authoritarian dictatorship at the center, with local power held by warlords. Granted the Famine would not have occured, but China would also have remained largely poor and look something along the lines of Afghanistan today. There would be a constant harassement from Communist guerillas, and the only form of government would be a kleptocracy where the military elite prospers and everyone else tries to get by.

Honestly, even with all the foreign support in the world I don't think Chiang Kai-shek could have won. The people generally viewed him and his cronies as a tyrant in the pocket of foreign powers.

OT: I find China has a fascinating history frought with hardship and death at every turn. To understand the mindset of China today, you have to understand Chinas past. So on the whole I like the place, but generally disagree with their political policies.

Also they're only really communist in name now, since there is a growing middle class and a growing divide between rich and poor.

There will be many many gay men and pedophiles in China very soon.

Edit:

I was asked for an explanation.

Basically, because of China's one child policy, many families only wanted to have male children, who would carry on their family names. This means that many baby girls were given up for adoptions, and adopted into other countries, or, were flat out killed.

At this time, it means that only 1 out of 3 Chinese boys will have the option of marrying a woman in china when they get older. Those who cannot leave china to find a mate with either end up alone, gay, or as a pedophile.

Explanation over.
That is a totally rational assumption. [/sarcasm]
Please explain how it is an irrational one. I'd like to know.
The assumption that heterosexual men who can't find women either A)Start having sex with men, or B)Start having sex with children is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

Just because there's a lack of women does not mean one changes their sexual orientation - they can't. Furthermore, pedophilia is often the result of some sort of mental or emotional problem, not a lack of women.

If there was a war between China and the united states... i find it surprisingly hard to decide who to root for. Over course, i would rather there not be a war, but when the inevitable conflict comes.... it is really hard to know who to root for.

If women get rights in China, then China will be an awesome place be if you are a woman. Think about the Book "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress."
