Meh. Citizen Kane and Vertigo both aren't that great to me. Sound, sure, but great? I'm filled with an unimpressed mind on this one. Of course, my tastes are a lot different than what a film critic's are.

I haven't seen Citizen Kane or Vertigo yet (I'll have to), but the two of them make more sense to me than the IMDb list, which puts The Shawshank Redemption at the top. I'd have difficulty finding a film I liked more than V for Vendetta but if both films are good they could dethrone it in my eyes.
I've had the ending spoiled for Citizen Kane so I moved it down on my to-watch list for the time being. I have yet to watch any Hitchcock movies though, so I better get 'em on the list.
Besides using numbered lists to possibly brand out and discovery new things, I don't like 'em too much. However, considering the types of people involved, the decade between votes and the sheer number of voters, I think I can take this list a little more seriously than most I've encountered.

I dislike this notion of "best film ever." When you're dealing with a subjective medium, and one that's had a fair number of excellent submissions, it really becomes a matter of personal preference which one is really best, even if you force people to have quality standards as relates to editing, writing, cinematography, etc.
But I liked Citizen Kane. I preferred some of Welles' other films on a personal level, but Citizen Kane is an excellent film and it revolutionized the concept of film-making at the time. I haven't seen every movie that's ever come out since then, naturally, but I don't know that I've seen a movie that not only revolutionized film making that much, but was also an excellent film on its regular merits.
That said, no, I don't like to label films as "Best Movie Ever." I don't think you can really make an objective statement on that matter.

I think Hitchcock in general ages better than some of the more ponderous movies from that time (like Citizen Kane). Me, if you told me to pick a classic from that time I'd go with Casablanca or the Maltese Falcon. Yes, I'm a Bogie fan. He was defining cool back when grandma and grandpa were still just holding hands.

Truth be told, I was pretty bored by Citizen Kain. I think 12 Angry Men is a much better movie from that era. Or High & Low. Or really any film by Kurosawa beats out Citizen Kain, in my obviously ignorant opinion.

While a lot of people seem to find Citizen Kane boring, when I watched it I agreed with it being the best of all time. It is not my favorite movie by far, but it was just so damn ahead of its time.
