I used to associate the old cartoons with various video games, the most prominent being a certain SpongeBob episode (C-A-M-P-F-I-R-E S-O-N-G SONG), but now I watched an Edd Ed and Eddy re-run then played Farcry2, now they are forever intertwined.

Cartoon died a long, long time ago. It had lots of charm and wit and now it's filled with shit, and with a glimmer of gold (Tom and Jerry).

Want to know when cartoon network was good? Here's a hint:

What happened to cartoons 24/7 you lying bastards, you couldn't just make another channel with your crappy new ideas? Screw that, I'm going to watch an ep of Swat Kats just for the awesome that was it's opening theme song.
I remember this! I loved the old ads they used to do. So amazing.

That's not a bad thing. Adult Swim has some good stuff, but...

Isn't there ALREADY an Adult Swim network? I'd quite like to have Cartoon Network as well as Adult Swim really.

How about the "What a Cartoon" show where all their popular shows came from? That was simply great getting to see all different artists doing all different kinds of things, and then sometimes it developing a bit more.

Quit bitching, american 2-d cartoons are dead now, hopefully pixar can pick up the pace so that we dont look like assholes to the rest of the world
Well really Raxer92 this thing is talking about the condition of CN that was how it was started and it seems only negitive stuff is being sad. All true, so why do you have a problem with that. Go somewhere else plz.

Now that that is out of the way. Yes Cartoon Network has indeed gone down hill. All they really have Ben 10 and Robot Chicken as the high end stuff with nothing else to hang there hat on. Even Bleach isn't enough to satisfy anime fans. Time to move on it seems.

What A Cartoon was excellent. A friend of mine showed me an old cartoon from that line to show me where Family Guy originated from. I completely forgot about it, but apparently What A Cartoon had a Seth McFarlane toon that already featured the idea of a dumb guy owning a smart dog, using the same voices as the Family Guy version:

Pretty much all the good What A Cartoon stuff came from the first run. Heck, if I remember correctly the first 3 What A Cartoon episodes were Dexter's Lab, Cow n Chicken and Johnny Bravo. All of them became long running shows. All of them a brilliant as the next.

Brilliant? To say the least, there was a lot of wit and charm to those shows..and just hidden dirty jokes but they were all fun to watch.

I remember the "family guy pilot", I recall him saying he was working out the kinks and there's even a line where the old guy says "Next time we'll try Stewies".

The magic has run out and cartoon network had decided to add more money to it's money swimming pool by cashing in on reality TV and disney like sitcoms.

I remember back when I was knee-high to a grass skirt, Cartoon Network was that magical thing after school that made the jerks who flushed my hat down the toilet fade away.

Oh you deformed reminder of what once was, I weep for thee.

I refuse to call it "CN"

To me it was, is, and always will be Cartoon Network, andything else is wrong

And it died a looooong time ago. It started with Toonami going from a show that was on all week, to a show on saturday nights, to a quiet, sad, death.
And then more fell.

Whoever cancelled Samurai Jack deserves to die a slow, painful death.

It still graciously airs Ed, Edd, n' Eddy now and then, and even Courage the Cowardly dog if you are lucky, but that is all that's left of a once great network.

same.
it's a shame i loved that channel growing up. i voted for billy & mandy one summer and i always felt like there was a little bit of myself in that channel. reality television isn't just killing 'the CN' it's ruining decent television. except for 'the soup' it almost makes it all worthwhile.

At least Boomerang still shows the good old cartoons. Although they are properly old, like Tom and Jerry. Still, it's good for nostalgia trips =)
Not so. Boomerang actualy has a late night shift with Johnny B, Two Stupid Dogs, The Powerpuff Girls, Dexters Lab, Cow and Chicken, Samurai Jack, and Justice League.

Oh and they now and then show SWAT KATS!!!!
Wait, they have 2 stupid dogs!

You better not be lieing or I swear to all that is holy I will find you and make you suffer if you are lieing.

If I were president of Cartoon Network:

11pm-5am-Adult Swim
5am-8am-Classic Cartoons (looney toons etc)
8am-5pm-Superhero Shows (Teen Titans, Justice League, etc)
5pm-11pm-Anime
Where would Megas XLR fit in on that schedule?

i loved it when i was a kid, watching looney toons at 6 am. Then they took it away. I was sad, until they got new shows like teen titans. LOVED THAT SHOW. Now they have reality shows. Makes no sense. Its a CARTOON CHANNEL, not reality channel.

Pretty much this. Anything worth watching on Cartoon Network like Metalacolypse is on Adult Swim. I do wish they focused a bit more on anime, though; I know I can find it online easily and I do like their original programming, but Adult Swim did a great job of introducing people to series like FLCL and Death Note. Hell, they had the guts to show Evangelion at all on American TV.

They changed it to CN so that it would be easier to txt to your other 11 year old friends what channels are okay to watch. But seriously, my friend keeps Cartoon network on alot of the time. It's not that he's particually interested in the antics of the kids on "Stoked", but because he's not watching it and keeps it on for adult swim (soon to be changed to AS). And you got to know that they do have cartoons still, but they are cartoon versions of a reality show and a Mtv soul rape show. And isn't kind of funny that the majority of their cartoons are either anime, or targeted to adults? Also Nck (easy to txt) has always had live shows [pete and pete anyone?] but they are no longer even doing the shitty kid sitcom anymore. And I'm glad the talents jumping ship.

Oh man, I completely forgot about that cartoon. It's every bit as borderline schizophrenic as Family Guy, too. Erm, I don't mean that in a a bad way, just as a statement.
Heh. Xenophobic Scotsman. "Ach! People!"
