Just... what? And Super Mario Bros is #11? This is a great example why large public polls like this never work....

...Then why did you play it for hundreds of hours? Also I was more commenting on the whole, people getting worked up over other people's opinions than anything else. You think black ops is crap, well that's your opinion, to be honest I find it kind of dull myself, but there's just something about people bashing people who like COD that sends me into a blood frenzy.
Stated that I'd played the series for hundreds of hours, not blops solely.

Please dont skim.

Found it quite memorable, it was that bad.

By far the largest pile of bull-cross-horse shit news I've ever heard. I think the majorty of gamers Guinness asked were born into this generation. Which is the worst to be born in by far.
Tell me about it. This gen doesn't really compare much. I was born in the tail end of the 8 bit era. Grew up in the 16 bit. Good god, those were fun games.

Summarizing the thread so far

Whine whine whine X should have done better, whine whine whine Y should have been crap whine whine whine, why don't people think the way I do whine whine whine.
Here's the crux of the problem: Nearly all of the list is very recent. What happened to the good endings from the OLDER games? Riven, for instance. Or Day of the Tentacle. Or Rayman 2. The list REEKS of recent gamers who shun anything more than five years old.
Yeah, that's why Ocarina of time is right at the top right? Also on an unrelated note, maybe people just like recent stuff more? OH NOEZ! WHY DOESN'T THEY LIKE WHAT I LIKE! THEY MUST BE STUPID!
I said "nearly" Find me one on that list from pre-2004 that isn't Nintendo, I'm not seeing it.

And yes, OH NOEZ. We're forgetting a ton of classics! That IS something to be upset about.
Buddy, maybe nintendo classics are more popular in the modern world than other classics, ever stop to think of that? And maybe people don't share the same opinions as you of classic games being good or not, for example, most people on this website thinks that half life is a timeless classic...I think it's a pile of horse doo doo. Different opinions? WHAT NEW SPORE OF MADNESS IS THIS!?

Oh yeah and then there's the classic people are getting worked up over a list that reflects other peoples opinions that makes me slap my head at the intolerance of this website. Class act.
I, for one, am not getting really worked up. You're getting much more worked up than I am.

Oh, the implications.

And yes, Nintendo classics are very popular classics, but they aren't classic for their stories. They're classic for their gameplay, and often they are better games, but this is about endings, which is a story component.

And yet they tell me that people liked the ending of Super Mario Bros,

<youtube=4U6rAKKdxDA>

...better than the ending of Riven...

<youtube=YulhuEwJ4jE>

...where you save an entire civilization from an insane tyrant, rescue the good guy's wife, and finally find a way back to Earth. Whereas in the "better" ending, according to popular opinion, you find a princess and nothing happens.

I can't imagine why people are getting worked up.

Yes you're not getting worked up at all, that's why you've replied several times across the internet, trying to prove a guy wrong, you're far more worked up than me. Personally allow me to comment on something, if you're getting worked up over someone else's opinion, you seriously need to get out more, if you're not that worked up, then why did you respond to me when I was only mocking people that were getting working up?

It's someone else's opinion, why do you care? Also it is worth mentioning that the list covered things from a good twist to simply a fun boss, ok does that explain things? Can you calm down now?

How did Pokemon Black and White beat Shadow of the freaking colossus?
I nominate trio the punch for best ending.

Wait... wasn't the ending of black ops all the Cold War leaders sitting in the Pentagon getting attacked by zombies...?

That's a pretty appaling list though, but what can you expect from a populatirty contest judicated by biased fans!?

THE ENDING????

=.= seems to me people just voted their favourite game. Shows because games like Oblivion and Mario. Every Mario game has so little plot that the ending is irrelevant, not to mention the story ending to Oblivion was shit as stories can be.

Maybe they misread it, and the competition was for "Cheesiest and most overly-patriotic ending"

For those who can't remember . . .

Yeah, the ending seemed very cheesy to me. Certainly not the best ending of all time, that's for sure. (I paid no attention to the zombies bit at the end.)
Actually, as endings go, that isn't bad, the whole America F*ck yeah! vibe is clearly satirical of the cold war propaganda at the time, and finding out you probably killed Kennedy and were a Communist tool all this time is a good (if unbelievable) twist. Then Kennedy, Castro and... Reagan? team up to fight zombies. What more could you ask for?

We seem to forget that generally game endings are pretty rubbish even for games with great plots. At the end of KOTOR (good ending) you are given a medal. In Medal Of Honor Allied Assault (probably the best WW2 FPS) You get onto a train and a guy basically says "We're done here" and it fades to black.

It is a shame that all the gamers asked were only on one console and obviously most were from the newest generation of gamers, but fair enough, it could have been worse.

Again... I'm not upset. I'm not even trying to prove you wrong. The last post was trying to explain to you why people are getting upset, as you didn't seem to grasp it.

I think you get it now, you just have low tolerance to whinging. I don't see where you find my unending fury, though, so I don't have to calm down. I'm already calm.

I'm replying because I have not much else to do until I go to work in an hour.

Please don't project.

Filled with nerd rage ¬.¬

Portal 2's ending was fucking brilliant
Crysis 2 was brilliant
All of the games on the list that I'VE played outranked Black Ops (although Brotherhood was probably tied with Black Ops)

How the hell did Halo: Reach NOT win?!?

That's how you do an ending! I dont hate call of duty but I do have to call bullshit on this one.
Because Reach spoiled it's ending with every game before it...and at the very beginning of the game itself. :p

In case you missed it, here's the ending to Reach:
The Human's lose and you die.

Biiiiiiiiig surprise there! Never saw it coming! M. Night Shabamalamadingdong should take notes from 343! :p
Halo Reach's ending is a great example of storytelling and gameplay, it doesn't matter if you already know how it's going to end. A good story, and therefore a good ending, should be able to enjoyed multiple times.

It's all a popularity contest, but I'd like to say that Black Ops actually does have a pretty good ending.
Then watching Fight Club will blow your mind.

Because as a fan of Cold War spy books and Soviets brainwashing American agents it was actually piss poor.

I don't know what made me finish the game because the last mission was completely unjustified and completely forced.

I'd gladly take a Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy) ending over Black Ops's.
