Playing Hardcore TDM on COD4 a few nights ago, the usual barrage of abuse was flying around the lobby towards the less able players.

One or two tenth prestige gold star douchebags kept telling people they sucked and to 'leave hardcore to the big boys'

Now maybe it's just me but I hate people who think they're better at the game because they play hardcore.

In fact, I am not great at the game but I get far better KD ratios in hardcore mode, due to the fact that enemies go down quicker and my aim is not the best.

Playing hardcore with a silencer, UAV jammer and headphones is like putting the game on easy mode.

Do you play hardcore and do you believe it to require more skill than normal?

I actaully never used to play it... but because my CoD 4 isn't working, I have played it on WaW a lot.
It's quite good... I can use a Garand with scope to deadly effect... dammit, I prefer CoD 4... but I need to get it fixed... (Only costs $/£2 to fix)

I almost always play hardcore, I love it. And yes it takes more skill, because it doesn't give you the assists the normal version does like a map or a HUD; you need to figure those things out for yourself. And the decreased health means that you rarely get second chances and, most importantly, it makes the game about good positioning and finding the enemy, which requires skill and intelligence, not just pouring as many bullets into the enemy as you can until they finally die.

I tend to play slowly and tactically most of the time on TDM too, so that may be why hardcore seems to work well for me.

I've always found the word hardcore funny in videogames. Think you're hardcore at WaW? Join the SaS. Think you're hardcore at Madden? Become a pro footballer. Think you're hardcore and Lego: Indiana Jones? Become an adventuring archeologist.

Also, 1000th post, woop woop?

I don't mind it, as I find elitist pricks in any online game I play. I find it more fun, more tactical, and more of a challenge than normal mode.

I mainly play it because steering towards hardcore weeds out some of the retards. Plus, like you said, I enjoy the extra bullet damage.

I only play hardcore in private matches. In regular matches, I stick to regular. Partially because I like being able to run around feeling like a bad-ass, partially because I don't like sitting in a corner with my gun aimed at the door.

played those games and I found it is populated by campers. I get more kills by using grenades than I do with my gun. oh.. oh how I mix the old quake style grenade guns.

i also find it funny when people start saying... "everyone here is acting like a w****r or n****r. I'm the only n****r here!"

I just generally hate anyone who starts bragging or shouting "you're crap!" (or similar)

It's a game. I have good games or bad games. I don't care so long as I'm having fun. I pretty much only play hardcore. If you've given 3 weeks of your life to go around the prestige board 10 times then go you, but also get a life. I think it's more a fault of CoD4 matchmaking - i wish it was better at matching you with your peers for closer and fairer matches.

My response to people sho start trash talking or boasting about how well they're doing is "Well, maybe, but I'm on my third beer and when that's done I'm going to fuck my wife. I guess you'll still be online though.... shooting virtual people...." Usually gets a laugh.

HC doesn't require more skill.

The small amount of weapon balance the game has is ruined, in CoD4 all weapons are equal or have a small benefit but HC favours the 30+ damage weapons and fast firing high-ammo/accuracy weapons.
This also removes the use of about half the perks in the game. In CoD4, only Claymores, Juggernaut, Overkill, UAV jammer, Deep Impact and Sleight of Hand have a real use. The rest is there to look pretty.

The lowered health promotes camping because it's the only guaranteed way to be faster than your enemy.

And yet, it rewards bullet spam a lot more because even if you miss your target you can still hit and instakill the ones behind your original target. Deep Impact makes getting kills in most levels trivial because you only need 2 or 3 hits to kill through walls(compared to the normal 4-8 through a wall)

i don't like hardcore and i don't think it takes more skill as you die with one bullet to your fucking toe its stupid and you die unrealisticly quick, most people who play hardcore search just know the maps, camping spots and spraying spots but i don't think that makes you good it means you play to much

Not really because bullet spam just announces your location to every nearby enemy, and will be more effective at getting you killed than getting you kills. I've never seen nor can I imagine someone in a hardcore game spamming bullets everywhere and getting anything more than a quick death.

I've never really played on Hardcore mode, and I avoid it for the same reason I avoid Search and Destroy: increasing the penalty for movement just promotes camping.

Yes, because it take so long to kill someone on standard mode. I mean, you really have to hold the trigger for ages to get a kill. Wait, hang on; opening fire on someone before they shoot at you pretty much guarantees a kill in all game modes.

Regular does tend to me more fun. I also like having little yellow score numbers pop up when I get a kill!
