Well, it's obvious this guy doesn't go to movies, read most anything written in the last century, go online, and he runs a comic shop? How the hell does he stay in business if he gets "offended" for two capital letters on a dialogue box? What got him into this line of work anyways? And why is it that people care whether it's said or not?If you get that offended by a word, how do you even function in regular society anymore, because I don't know about you but it's a rare day when I DON'T hear something along these lines on the street. And sorry if I hurt your egos reli's when I say this, but i don't think your god really gives that much of a shit what you say about him, if the guy even listens that much at all anyways. Look at it, all-powerful, omnipotent, etc.,etc., and his entire world will crumble because some random guy shouts out GODDAMNIT after being shot by a tank?

I'm imagining what this comic store looks like, I see huge white shelves with nothing on them, and in the back, four issues of a christian comic book published in the 50's and I also see a sign on the door that says; "Going out of Business".

I love when people get offended over a word and try to make a big deal out of it. It's not EVEN a word this time it's just two letters they're assuming is God damn?

I'm mostly just confused as to why he's saying "GD". What the hell is GD? Is it meant to say "GOD" but it's a typo? Or does GD mean something? IS IT CODE? Oh man, does it mean "God Is Dumb"? It so does, doesn't it? That's it! I'm boycotting ALL COMICS!

Oh man who cares. It would be more helpful if we all just simply turned our backs on this dude and stopped feeding the fire. No attention=less incentive to complain, and maybe, MAYBE, he'll shut up and mind his own business.

Or maybe hes just a crackpot and we're strangely addicted to that kind of behavior. Oh well.

a.) He doesn't say 'God'. He just says a syllable which I took as an expression of strain. Like the tank knocked the air out of his lungs (yeah, yeah, I know it probably couldn't, super-lungs and all that)
b.) Last I checked God was his title/species/honorific/nickname. Not his name. How can he be taking the Lord's name in vain when he's not actually using his name?

As some people may know, DC as just recently relaunched all their books at #1, including the longest running comic book ever Action Comics. Written by Grant Morrison this new interpritation of Superman is much closer to bolder, working mans hero, super jerk of his 1938 dabute, but that's not what's got this comic book guy rialed up.

Basically Fundementalist Christian runs a comic book shop. Hilarity ensues.

http://www.bleedingcool.com/2011/09/08/north-carolina-comic-shop-to-boycott-action-comics/

The funniest thing about it is Superman doesn't say "God". He says "GD" after being shot at by a tank. It could have just as easily been a grunt.

Love how he calls the guy a "liberal Scottish Shmuck." 'Cos, y'know, that's the kind of thing Jesus and Paul and Martin Luther (either one) would've said. As an atheist raised Pentecostal, I can tell you, the problem isn't Christians. It's dickholes like this who think they're Christian. I feel like pontificating. Shall we pontificate? Let's.

FYI - the Samaritan story was a story, at least in part, about racism.

OK, pedantry concluded. Back to being a drooling caveman...

I wonder, if this fellow were to be blasted by...whatever...Supes is being blasted with here, if he may just cry out something that he doesn't usually use in normal conversation. Perhaps he would then realize the fucking point of obscenity.

Just love the bored Roman guards that just look at each-other and shake their heads.
Those bored Romans, that's my reaction to this whole thing.

2000 years later the more things change the more they stay the same.

I live in NC and am in no way surprised. My local bookstore was bought out years ago by the guy that owns the Christian bookstores in town and the Sci-Fi and Fantasy sections were completely gutted. With the notable exception of Harry Potter and Twilight.

I wonder what would happen if instead Lois Lane made him a halibut that Superman might have considered good enough for Jehova?

Next comic they should make direct reference to it.

Doesn't somebody say "MY GOD!" at least once in just about every comic in existence? How do they stay in business?
They do, yeah. There are so many instances, especially in DC, where characters say things like "Christ!" or simply "oh my God!" so I have no idea how this guy has taken offence to a grunt and not to every exclamation in comic book history.

Also, here's DC's response to it: http://dcu.blog.dccomics.com/2011/09/09/superman-and-the-gd-controversy/
Basically, Morrison says it was a grunt, just a grunt. Even if it wasn't, taking offence to a character saying "God" is pitiful, even if you're the fucking pope.

WHY!?!?? Who would sell to them? Why would they buy them?

On the other hand, as Movie Bob said, comic books need to market themselves better. They need to break out of the comic book stores and break into the mainstream. They don't have to change anything, they just have to make them available where people who would be interested in them could buy them.

Walmart is probably not the place, online probably is.

Ok? Someone boycotting something on the basis of personal principles...is this really something to make a big deal out of?

Would this somehow not be stupid anymore if he was boycotting it because superman made a racist joke about the American president?

Speaking as an athiest, my opinion on this is pretty self evident, your brain can reason, for a reason, so use that skill

Um, why does anyone on this forum care? Was there no point to this thread beyond pointing and laughing?
