"And the meat from live stock will be hard to find on the road we have to try and save what we can for the road." Sai pointed out. "Kia here lived on small animals and birds her whole life and I see no reason to change that. If birds are trouble though I'm sure she won't mind laying of the birds and stick to rabbits."

Just for future reference Kia is female.

Garret stopped pacing and stepped toward his plate as soon as the server set it on the ground. Kadence pulled her own plate closer to her and was tearing one of the pieces of bread when Pru spoke up. Kadence frowned and leaned over in her chair to get a closer look at the girl's plate.

Pru looked down at the meat. "..." Perhaps I'm being to stingy. No, there is defiantly something wrong here. She pushed the plate towards the center of the table and resigned to bread for the rest of the meal.

The tavern girl could hardly believe what she was hearing but in reflection it made a lot of sense. She felt incredibly stupid, realising this was probably the first of many learning experiences about the world she would have to endure. She looked at the pigeons again, still feeling sick but this time understanding, and feeling relieved that, if anything, she were not a pigeon. She cradled Cora and felt pity towards him, to most people, Cora would be the same as those pigeons, and that Sai was in a way behaving the same as the lady who caught Cora. The tavern girl returned to the tree to ponder what she had learned, petting Cora's sleek black feathers, which he ruffled and raised, enjoying the attention.

"It...doesn't look like anything's wrong with it." Kadence said quietly, looking over at Pru's plate. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary as far as she was concerned. As Pru started eating bread Kadence turned her attention to her own plate once again. Garret quickly finished his meat and started licking the plate while the humans continued eating. Kadence broke a piece of bread into smaller bits and alternated a small bite of meat with a small bit of bread.

Zestia walked over to the tavern girl and put her hand on her shoulder.
"Look, we're only trying to make you understand why Kia must eat other animals. Death of others is inevitable along the way and we can't have you down on your knees and crying every time. I'm sorry if we hurt you, but the real world is harsh, as I found out. So pull yourself together and let's start this journey, m'kay?"

Zestia smiled when she looked at the tavern girl. Shade was just on the ground beside Kia while Zestia tried to comfort the tavern girl again.

Sue finished all the seeds she could find and so she flew down and examined Garret again. The bird landed near the plate and cocked her head at him. Prudence, meanwhile, kept wondering why the meal was so unfamiliar. It wasn't totally bad tasting, just... disgusting. She finished eating bread, although she was still hungry, and waited again for Kadence.

Just to clarify, I just said tears came to her eyes, not that she broke down crying or anything, wet eyes are far less melodramatic, right now she's just thinking about it, not making a scene, sorry if my language is a bit confusing because I'm studying lol, anyway, I have to keep studying for my exam tomorrow so I probably won't be able to post for a bit

"Granted that would make it a whole lot easier" amused at Lev's words

She slided her bag off her shoulders and placed it upon Ursa's large back, without a harness she had to make do with balancing it on his back, she then draped her coat over him, The bear didn't even seem to notice the added weight, and kept walking at his pace.

she stretched her arms as she walked in the hot sun

"You'd think they could reach a bit further than the next town, its only been a day..though i guess the reality of this adventure dawned on them, chances are none of us will find this place"

Garret finished licking his plate and looked up at Sue when the bird landed. The wolf gazed at the bird and tilted his own head. His curiosity filtered up to his partner as she continued eating. After a moment Garret turned away from Sue and stood. He used his muzzle to push his empty plate out from under the table and within reach of Kadence. The wolf walked around the table, weaving slightly around the support legs, and stopped near his partner's chair but not directly beside of it. He turned so that he was facing the tavern door. There were tables and other patrons in the way, blocking most of his view but Garret could see the top of the wooden door clearly. The wolf shook himself briefly before sitting down.

Kadence glanced at her Companion as he moved then continued to finish most of her meal. She left behind only one of the pieces of bread. It was fairly fresh bread, but Kadence didn't feel like eating it. When she moved the plate, it scrapped against the table and the noise caused Garret to tilt his head and look up at his partner. The bread smell didn't interest the wolf so he returned his gaze to the door. Kadence leaned down and picked up Garret's plate off of the floor. She placed it carefully on the table, but away from the other plates. When she finally looked over at Pru she noticed the girl hadn't eaten anything besides bread.

"Are you...did you want to order something else?" she asked, frowning slightly. She looked around for the waiter but did not see the man who had taken their order.

Looking at what just happened, Badelin thought it would be best to not comment and just change the subject.

"Let's leave that behind, shall we not? Let us not bother our minds with useless matters and better think about the long journey ahead"

Her stomach growled, but Prudence said, "I'm... not hungry. I can wait until lunch."

Sue got scared when Garret stood up and flew away from the table. She looked around the entire tavern before finally returning to her companion's shoulder. It frightened Pru a bit and she jumped, but smiled when she saw it was just her little bird.

Kadence looked skeptical at Pru's response but didn't press the issue. After a few minutes the waiter stopped by and took their plates. He frowned ever-so-slightly when he noticed the uneaten meat. With the plates stacked and balanced in one hand the waiter addressed the two women. "That will be three silver a piece." he said.

Reaching into her pack to grab a small leather pouch, Kadence retrieved three silver pieces and placed them on the table. While she did this Garret turned to the man and inspected him silently. As the coins were placed on the table the wolf's gaze shifted back to the tavern patrons. The waiter took the coins from the table. He tapped them against the wood surface lightly then clasped the coins in his free hand.

"Oh. Right." Prudence fetched the three silver out of her purse and handed them to the man. He walked off with the (mostly) empty plates and Pru led Kadence out of the tavern. They walked down the road until they accidentally reached a stall selling all sorts of maps, and Prudence bought one and stored it in her pack.

Kadence followed Pru and Garret followed his partner. The wolf abruptly stopped and shook himself briskly then resumed walking. Kadence tilted her head and laughed softly at her Companion. As they continued down the road she glanced at the nearby stalls and looked through the shop windows as they passed by. After they had walked a while Kadence slowed her pace.

"We could head to the main gate now" she said, turning to walk backwards and look at Pru.

Prudence thought about going back to see if Durkon had came back, but she couldn't bare to say goodbye. "Yeah. Let's go." She didn't cry, but teared up, thinking about Durkon, her family, and the city. They were all so familiar, and now she was leaving them.

"Oh, I fully expect to see people heading back within the next few days, which will be before we reach the next town." Lev said as he walked a little quicker to catch up with Tatiana. Who, for some reason, continued her best to not just ignore Viktorya and Ursa, but also Lev.

He looked up at the sun as he continued walking, loosening the collar of his shirt with one finger. The lighter clothes did help considerably, but the heat still got to him, which wasn't a good sign for their continued journey.

"By the way, I know that you're a smith, and I don't doubt your skill. But I'm guessing you have had some experience in traveling around, and likely some other skills which could be helpful on the road?" He asked, his tone indicated that he wasn't trying to be rude about it, but he could have chosen his words more carefully.

Kadence turned forward again as soon as Pru replied. She altered their path to head toward the main gate. When they had walked a short distance Garret recognized the direction they were going and increased his pace to walk beside his partner. As the group made their way to the city gate there began to be more people on the street, more movement and more noise. Some people were close together and appeared to be in a group. Other people were by themselves walking steadily down the road with their Companion beside them or up in the air. Kadence glanced around at the people who were not already grouped to see if she recognized any of them. But all of the faces she observed were unfamiliar. She sighed softly and shifted the pack at her side to a more comfortable position. Noticing the movement, Garret tilted his head and looked up at his partner.

Prudence took a deep breath. Now was the time to be strong and move on. She had to look on the brighter side. For one, she was finally leaving the city. She remembered back to her Journey and the freedom and joy she felt out in the woods. Maybe this quest will have that freedom. It made her feel good.

Sue, in the same mindset, was flying all around the other three in the happiness that she could finally be out of the walls with her companion. It wasn't the same going out there alone, and Pru had never wanted to leave the gate in all the years she had been sneaking out of the house. The two of them were finally free.

Kadence followed the steady flow of people and animals into one of the lines that she assumed was designated for those signing up for the quest. Garret walked at his partner's side. The wolf seemed to dislike the close gathering and would occasionally step away from Kadence when the line stalled. As they neared the front of the line Kadence leaned to one side and was able to see the guards facing the crowd.

The guard writing down people's information was unfamiliar but the middle-aged man in a slightly tattered uniform who stood next to the writing guard was one of the normal day shift. Kadence was happy to have recognized the man even though he was not going on the quest. She grinned and waved her hand as the line moved forward yet again. The guard's eyes were scanning the crowd but after a moment he noticed her. The guard smiled and gave Kadence a brief nod. Then his gaze left her and continued to scan the people leaving the city. Kadence decided it was best not to distract the man from his duty.

A few more minutes went by. Garret gave off a wave of impatience and moved away from his partner. Kadence followed the wolf with her eyes and frowned, not wanting to leave the line. She relaxed when Garret sat down a few feet away from where she stood. The wolf watched his partner silently. Kadence moved her gaze to the people in front of her who were signing up for the quest. Some of the adventurers looked about her age, but there were a handful that looked very young. Kadence frowned again. Some of the youths didn't even have a bag for supplies. She hoped that they were in a group that was better equipped than they were individually. She silently reviewed the supplies that she herself had purchased until she reached the very front of the line.

Kadence smiled politely at the guard she did not know but the man didn't look up from his piece of parchment. Instead he readied his quill and asked for her name, place of origin, and Companion information. Kadence dutifully recited the information to the man and watched him write it down. When he was finished she signed the parchment and stepped away from the line. Garret returned to his partner's side and Kadence put a hand on his head lightly as she looked around for Pru.
