N'Gai Croal's twitter:

"EA PR not confirming Mass Effect 2 for PS3, only 360 and PC. That's all folks. Back to a more manageable tweetstream."

So do not get your hopes up.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO........!!

But multiplatform may just mean PC and Xbox 360.
I'm a rocket scientist, by the way.
Oh wait, that was already said in the news article.
Well, it's probably on the PS3, since it's EA, and Mass Effect one wasn't done under the traitorous, money whore of a company called EA.

sweeeeeeeeeeet. I liked Mass Effect 1, glad to see it's coming to multiple platforms. Wonder how they're going to do it for the PS3? Hope it isn't a shitty port.

Everyone sit down, shut up and stop wildly speculating. No amount of guesses about the future will change the outcome.

Other than that:
Yay, Mass Effect 2!
Boo, released in 2010!

I'm guessing 360 + PC. Does it really make sense to release Mass Effect 2 for the PS3 when the first one hasn't even been ported over?

...or has it? A quick Google search says "rumour, rumour, rumour", circa 2007.
Lets see, Condemned 2, Saints Row 2, Dead Rising 2, Call of Duty 3.....
No, you have it wrong. Mass Effect 2 is supposed to continue directly from Mass Effect. The things that happen in the first one, say being rude about Joker's bone disease or declining the fans autograph are still present in the sequel. Some of the more important moments can be solved with a questionnaire (I expect this to be in the 360 and PC versions as well so that newcomers don't have to have a cookie cut back story) but even if you do this, the player will have no idea whats going on. Mass Effect explained a lot of things, not knowing the story cripple the play experience of Mass Effect 2.
Like I said, as not every single person on earth bought Mass Effect, they can't do that because there are always gonna be people who didn't play the first.
... Except they stated a while ago that they were going to have events from the first impact the second [http://www.videogamer.com/news/14-03-2008-7778.html].

But people forget that EA published Left 4 Dead. That only came out for the Xbox 360 and PC. So there is precidence for EA shunning the PS3 if the developer whishes to.
You're mixing up the developers (VALVe) with the Publishers (EA). The Publishers have near nothing to do with where the game goes if the developers are not willing to develop for a system.

But it would be nice if Mass Effect 2 would come to PS3. I hope it does, but whatever.

For people who didn't play the first, they go with a neutral response to all of these things happening. Simply put, they cannot make it mandatory to play the other games in order to make this game work - it doesn't make sense.
Of course there are going to be some people who didn't play the original, thats to expected, but a lot of people did play Mass Effect, especially the Sci-fi and WRPG fans. The people that didn't play Mass Effect 1 are not the people that want to play Mass Effect 2. There is not going to be a large group of people who have bought the second without getting the first. There will be some, yes, but those people will be a very small minority. Your logic seems similar to "Oh we can't make The Empire strikes back because people might not have seen A new hope and when they go to see The Empire strikes back they will be confused and not understand whats going". People that want to play Mass Effect 2 want to play it because they played Mass Effect 1. There is very few people that will look at Mass Effect 2, have no idea what its about, buy the game and then get annoyed because they have to take a neutral response.

Well since they have stated you will be able to carry your first character to the second game it says to me that if you never played the first you are going to get an auto levelled character in #2. So for them to bring it to the PS3 they will have to fill it with a ton of backstory first off. Then they will get an auto levelled 50 character with no customization beforehand. That sux for a new player IMO

I think it is great that it will come to the ps3, maybe its metascore will start to go up now and more people wil be able to experience the game. If its true of course.

But adding the ps3 to the roster is really a kind of niche market.
Unless the ps3 has another 1/3 content tacked to the top or has some form of graphics upgrade, Im going to use the xbox. largely because they promised to be able to do some saved data transferring, and because a game that Ive played on the xbox the first go round is going to stay consistently on the platform it was released on.

For a single player game like mass effect (unless it somehow is going to have a multiplayer portion) there is very little reason why a person who has both ps3 and xbox would for some reason want it on the ps3. The game Came out on the Xbox and that is what is most familiar, not to mention that Id imagine the xbox game have slightly more of a development time then its ps3 counterpart.

Of course it could just be a pc and xbox exclusive, because last time i checked halo 3 didn't run on my 360 and crysis doesn't like being crammed into my xbox. so im pretty sure they're considered different "platforms".

You misunderstand me - I'm not talking about people who haven't played thefirst, I'm talking about people playing without the data for the first - people who were forced to delete it to make room on their Hard Drive, people who used the 360 and are getting the PC version, vice versa, and so on.

And I'm more saying "we can't make it so they have to present their ticket stubs for A New Hope to get into Empire Strikes Back"
Well, the problem with that is that your Mass Effect 1 character is supposed to be transferrable to Mass Effect 2. Part of what was so fun about the first Mass Effect is how you chose to level up your character - you had a choice of sex, looks, class and skills. If someone starts Mass Effect 2 without a character generated from the first, they are going to have to start with a pre-made character, which kinda kills part of the fun of the first game.

However, if the next game doesn't have Sheppard as the main character, then it's absolutely no problem for someone to jump into ME2 cold. You start from the bottom up again.
