"We have contacted Sony" I hope everyone that wasn't mentally headbutting those reporters at that point, is now.

? what about the fat comments is the game E for everyone other than fat people and orphans?

I love how no ones cares about the brain damage thing near the beginning of the game.

The reason why no-one makes a fuss is because it isn't "controversial" enough. Lets face it, people make fun of fat people all the time and no-one cares. As for brain damage, i think comatose people find it a bit difficult to play games... (wow, that was kinda dark)

When humour is involved all subjects are open for interpretation. Just because this guy doesn't like it, it just means he's hit his threshold doesn't mean it's not a joke.

Get some prospective man....

What's this from? It's quite funny, and kind of why I don't watch the news
The Onion News Network. It's the third most-trustworthy news source in the media followed by Al-Jazeera.

I was fine with it up until 1:06 where the reporter calls it a "popular kid's videogame".

This guy's been making a mountain out of this molehill for a while.

It's just silly though. The player isn't told that. The characters are told that. You aren't you when you play the game, you're Chell. You step into her role. The other characters talk to you and refer to you as if you were a grown woman, because that's your role in the game.

And anyway, if you were offended by that... as many people care to mention, wasn't the comment redacted later anyway (by GLaDOS)?
How the hell is this a kids game? it has gun turrets, does have violence and even in the first portal there were similar taunts from gladios, how the hell, when the hell did this become a kids game?!

On-Topic; there's nothing wrong with this at all, to be honest, asides from what they're implying (>It should be banned)

If a new game came out that contained allsorts of nasty, insulting things and you want to raise awareness of this fact, and try to get the news out so people won't buy said nasty thing, and you ARE speaking the truth (He isn't lying anywhere) - there's no problem with that at all.

Once they move to ban it (Which I think they might) - they've crossed the line set. But they haven't.

I'm not even going to watch it.

Portal is the LEAST offensive video game I could think off, and I know that the father in question actually had a legimate point, and didn't fear monger over it.

Oh no, the antagonist was antagonizing the protagonist?! This is an outrage! How dare they include such a thing in their game!

What do they expect? "Pthppppt, you're a stoopid doodie head!"?

Are you Kidding me?

I mean what the hell? The game has dark humor to it, especially with insults. In the story Chell was adopted, so that makes some sense to it, and she probably has outlived her parents, maybe not as a child. Yet most of us do become orphans eventually (think about it).

Anyway these parents are overreacting towards this, I don't even think the kid even cares about that, she probably knows she's adopted. These parents are reacting badly to a joke, A JOKE!! The game creators made a game that is fun, humorous, and makes you think. They knew that not everyone would like certain parts of it, yet they still made it.

I am actually quite surprised that this story wasn't covered by Fox News, because we all know when it comes to inappropriate games, or parts of games, they'll cover it and blow it out of proportions.

Way to take something and blow it completely out of proportion. Seriously, well done. Were all super proud of you. This is the stupidest news report I've seen since the news report on the bullied kid body-slamming the bully. This isn't news, it's just stupidity.

How did someone this retarded actually get that far in Portal?
I imagine it was his adopted chinese daughter who got that far. I doubt he could have passed on enough intellect to his biological offspring to make it to the portal gun...

Just one thing, how come he's not upset about her being called fatty repeatedly?

I DEMAND that in the next Harry Potter movie, Voldemort just smiles nicely at Harry, compliments his new haircut then gives him a box of cookies for being so nice, then the credits roll.

We can't possibly allow a psychologically manipulative AI, such as Glados, appear to be psychologically manipulating a character.

I have to file this one under 'parent sees vague potential for offence, sees dollar signs, runs to news station.'.

I maintain there might be a SMALL failing in the ratings system, as it only seems to really cover violence, sex, drugs and swearing, whereas there are types of 'mature content' that don't fall into a simple category, like this one.

As ever tho, if the parent is playing it, at the first sign of trouble, you could play it with the voice and subtitles switched off, utterly destroying a lot of the quality of the game, but protecting your child from a talk you probably should have had with them by then, both about adoption and about bullying.

'Glados is mean, and she's trying to make you feel bad, because she thinks you see being adopted as a bad thing, but it's not, so you can ignore her and anyone else who is dumb and mean enough to use it as an insult, ok?'

That would have covered it from a parental angle. (I'm not a parent btw, but I am adopted and had 'the chat' about it fairly young, then again in my mid teens.)

I would state that for honesty, I was affected more by the insults hurled that actually applied to me than those that didn't , despite obviously understanding they're aimed at the character, and that they're scripted, because I'm human, and also because it's an excellent script, well acted, and don't we, as gamers, especially here at the escapist, WANT our games to touch our emotions?

That in effect is the real root of the problem between us and the media, the media still think everything we do is either space invaders or COD, there's no games that aren't just mindless shooters or some other outlet for our violent natures.

Haven't subjects like this come up in soap operas and not been massively criticised? Oh hang on, that's TV, the format that the news in on...no conflict of interest here then.

Just on a side note, who's for Portal 3 abusing Chelle throughout for being a 'dumb, thicky dumdum, no facts, no friends news reporter'

*Wheatley rolls out of a hatch*

'Hey there - I just thought you should know - soldiers who lost legs fighting for their country are offended by your constantly taunting them with your repeated jumping, I just heard it on the news'.

'In other news, your portal gun firing blue portals is obviously showing a political bias and we feel you should be disqualified from testing.'

NOTE: I haven't finished Portal 2 - so I don't know anything about Wheatley really, so no spoilers please :)

They're calling it a childs' game? Really? Clearly someone does not understand the ratings. This guy needs to shut up, he's just trying to get 15 minutes of fame and using such a silly thing to do so is just pathetic. Oh, who claimed it was an "educational" game?

I can actually understand this to an extent. It must be pretty awkward as an adoptive parent to have that kind of thing brought up into the living room. Unfortunately, it is blown way out of proportion by the news here.
Also, Cave Johnson. At what point did they decide to claim that this game is at all billed as 'educational'?

Hang on... They're getting all worked up because the villain of a game insulted the main character? And there I was thinking that the whole point of an antagonist was to antagonise the protagonist. Silly me. Well, at least I know better now.
Yeh, but their point is that this is a as they call it "Child's game" with an E rating. That would be like in Mario if Bowser made rape jokes to Peach. But'ya know no matter what you say, you are offending someone.
