Just one thing, how come he's not upset about her being called fatty repeatedly?
I DEMAND that in the next Harry Potter movie, Voldemort just smiles nicely at Harry, compliments his new haircut then gives him a box of cookies for being so nice, then the credits roll.
We can't possibly allow a psychologically manipulative AI, such as Glados, appear to be psychologically manipulating a character.
I have to file this one under 'parent sees vague potential for offence, sees dollar signs, runs to news station.'.
I maintain there might be a SMALL failing in the ratings system, as it only seems to really cover violence, sex, drugs and swearing, whereas there are types of 'mature content' that don't fall into a simple category, like this one.
As ever tho, if the parent is playing it, at the first sign of trouble, you could play it with the voice and subtitles switched off, utterly destroying a lot of the quality of the game, but protecting your child from a talk you probably should have had with them by then, both about adoption and about bullying.
'Glados is mean, and she's trying to make you feel bad, because she thinks you see being adopted as a bad thing, but it's not, so you can ignore her and anyone else who is dumb and mean enough to use it as an insult, ok?'
That would have covered it from a parental angle. (I'm not a parent btw, but I am adopted and had 'the chat' about it fairly young, then again in my mid teens.)
I would state that for honesty, I was affected more by the insults hurled that actually applied to me than those that didn't , despite obviously understanding they're aimed at the character, and that they're scripted, because I'm human, and also because it's an excellent script, well acted, and don't we, as gamers, especially here at the escapist, WANT our games to touch our emotions?
That in effect is the real root of the problem between us and the media, the media still think everything we do is either space invaders or COD, there's no games that aren't just mindless shooters or some other outlet for our violent natures.
Haven't subjects like this come up in soap operas and not been massively criticised? Oh hang on, that's TV, the format that the news in on...no conflict of interest here then.
