To me, this is kind of like when people used to take quotes from Voldemort and use them to claim that the Harry Potter books promote immorality. The lines he's getting offended at are spoken by the villain(s) as a taunt to the player- you're clearly not supposed to agree with what they're saying.

Oh no, a character in a game tried to antagonise another player in the game by saying something antagonistic. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! Adopted people should never be referenced ever in any context, that would be the worst thing ever.

I don't get how that line is the worst thing he could ever hear. I'd think 'you're daughter's dead' would trump that by a huuuge margin, sooo it's either sensationalism or stupidity.

Also, portal's only educational if you have a portal device. It's a puzzle game, but you're not exactly learning anything real-worldy.

Oh, yes now you can forgive them. As North Carolina isnot into a state with the english as the mother language. In any given case, they spoke in english into the video, going blabla about a joke made by the developer, and said by the bad guy. I want to see what they will say about duke nukem, where nudity, cock joke and unmoral action are the core of the
I know they speak English. But they are not English. English people are from England. North Carolina is not England. You said they were English, and you were wrong.
Wait, we may have a english grammar controversy. And a possibly flam start for the most epical stupid reason. Ok, as I remember about England, it's that the isle's guy call it Great British. And call them self on that line, british. Not england. English is the language, not what they call himself. Right?

I mean, England's folk separate the name of their language [english/italian] from the name of their population [british/italian]. But this is something that i seem to recall from the last time I went shopping at London...

They are english!
Even Australian are. There is a word to describe all state that speak in english but I really can't remember it.
If you're going to lecture me about English, you could at least use it properly. Also, try not to screw the quotes up, it makes it look messy.

England is a country. The country is part of the United Kingdom. The island that most of the UK is on is called Great Britain. People from England may call themselves British, or English.

Australians are Australian. They speak English, but they are not English, because they are not from England. People from North Carolina are not English. They may speak English (or some twisted form of it) but they are not English any more than Brazilian people are Portuguese, or the Quebecois are French.

LOL.

The saddest part of this "ground breaking" news story, is that the child is the only one taking an adult stance on it, and doing the most adult thing.

This frightens me. In fact, this terrifies me.

Why?

Well, not because of Portal 2 or anything. Some guy got offended over a joke in a video game. Who gives a flying fuck? Move on.

No, it terrifies me because there are a large number of people out there who watch these American news programs as their primary source of information on things outside their own lives.

Just dwell on that thought for a moment.
For the record i STILL have to explain that D&D doesn't make you go crazy and kill people at every family gathering because of US news. (Don't ask why they never remember the LAST time we had this conversation, maybe they just have nothing else to talk to me about.)

But on a different note:
This was "literally the worst thing I could have possibly heard". Literally. Seriously, the worst joke portal 'could' have made?

didn't GLaDOS taunt chell for being adopted in the first one? perhaps someone hasnt been following continuity!
no GLaDOS taunted chell by suggesting she could meet her parents but as far as I can remember she never directly insulted her for being adopted but she did insult her for her mass variation.

This is what I remember immediately afterwards in the game:

"G: What's wrong with being adopted?
W: Well actually nothing's wrong with being adopted I suppose..."

You're meant to thing the character's wrong, and he apologizes for it anyway, what precisely is the problem? That they brought it up?
I think it being mentioned in the comfort of their living room by a fictional character is better than it being talked about on Television where hundreds of people will see it and pass judgment on the father like we're all doing.

'Passing the buck onto somebody else'..? No, not really, Sony didn't develop the game, they had no input on the script.. News stories like this are just... -___-

1: Not passing the buck you went to the wrong damn company.

2: They even say in the game THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING ADOPTED.

3: Thats probably not the "ultimate question" your kid is ever going to have for you.

4: If she didn't end up hearing this in a video game chances are she'd hear it at school which might cause damage to a child because rather than a fictional entity saying it in a fictional setting based on fictional events you have someone you know, can see and interact with completely saying it to your face.

5: I believe he is upset because it's forcing him to talk about it with his kid. If he can't handle that then maybe there is a problem here.

Also, want to censor the game

Also, it's not educational it's a puzzle. It's educational in the same way that tetris is educational.

The worst thing is, is that had Portal been say a book or a movie we would never be having this discussion. But because it's a video game, we get this!

What? They do understand it. That's why they were furious. They may not have understood that it was a joke, but that's got nothing to do with what language they speak. What are you saying they should understand?
