I got this one. The only thing to almost make me beleive in ghosts.
The setting is a snowy night in the middle of winter in Utah at a supposedly haunted house that partially burned down. Visibility is down to about 10 or so feet in front of you. Between the thick falling snow and the complete and total darkness. We brought flashlights, but what is the fun in that?
Three of my friends (one who was in the band), his four fellow band members, and I, all showed up to take some pictures for a band (the whole reason we went, they wanted pictures for their album in a haunted house) it was going great. It started with the horses. Hear a couple of sounds, and out of the gloom comes these shapes. Turned out the land was being used as a pasture and was full of horses. After that we discovered what had to be one of the most photogenic run down houses ever. It was constructed with a large beam that ran the length of the roof. Well the main beam in the roof had fallen in during the fire in the kitchen. There was snow pouring in, with just a few beams of moon light breaking through the clouds to illuminate everything. The house looked a good hundred years old, and at the same time looked fairly new. Walking through what must have been the living room we where all startled by a creek of the door, followed by what sounded like scratching coming from behind the door. Two of the band members headed over the the door and another called me over. I was taking in the scene in the kitchen a bit longer then everyone else. I got into the room right as they where pushing the door away from the wall. I see a dark shape shoot out from behind the door and both of the guys fall on their asses. A round of "what the hell was that!" later and the bird that had been behind the door is spotted in the roof. For the remainder of the night we all had a bit of fun, taking turns scaring each other.
It's getting late, we have seen the house in it's entirety, and as we go to leave the band decides they want one last picture in front of what is left of the giant picture window. I decided to sneak out the door, creep as silently as I could through the snow, and leap up from the window grab my friend and scream. Good fun.
The unexplainable part comes later. As I left the house, and between everyone else coming and going the front steps where trampled down. But still there where several prints on the front steps, that where about the size and shape you would expect a small child's feet to be. All over. I didn't remember seeing them when I left, and for good reason. Those four prints couldn't have been there. See the trampled down snow had a good half inch of fresh snow on it. You could clearly see my prints as I left the house in the snow, and you could see the other prints on mine. As through something had walked over the tracks I made in the couple of minutes it took me to walk to the window scare my friend and walk back.
It was spooky. I know there has to be a good rational explanation, but there at the time. It really got me thinking for a few minutes that just maybe, you never really know for certain.
