Let's see... creepiest thing for me is pretty explanatory, but still creepy at the time. When I don't sleep enough I hallucinate. Like, I'm bad enough I sometimes hallucinate after not sleeping for... maybe 24 hours... Usually, it's not too bad, just things in my peripherals, or bugs (gaah, they're terrible crawling all over me and appearing/disappearing out of nowhere!).

But one night, I stayed over at my friend's house to do homework until, like, six in the morning after being up since... maybe 5 the morning before. I had to go home and sleep as much as possible, and shower and change clothes before my first class at one. Anyway, his place was only a few minute's drive from mine, but it was just about the frigging scariest few minutes of my life. I hallucinated a man singing in the back seat of my van. Of course, there wasn't anyone there visually, it was all sound... and I have no idea what he was singing, just some nonsense pretending to be a language. And a nice tune... I'd've listened to it if I'd found it on the radio or the internet... but I could hear it clear as anything, like there truly was a man there.

I know, and I knew at the time, that I was just hallucinating, but I guess that almost makes it worse... I easily could've hallucinated a car coming at me and swerved into a tree to avoid it, or even hallucinated that there wasn't a car where there was and hit it... it still freaks me the hell out thinking about that...
i do the same thing when i don't sleep especially when its dark the closest i have to yours is once around 5 am i was driving home looked in my review mirror and saw a t-Rex charging me before id realized what i was doing or that it was not there i floored it and got pulled over for doing 80 in a 35....yea try explaining that to a cop very bad...month

I was up late one morning on my computer playing my MMO, when I felt someone tap me on the shoulder. I turn my head to see nobody there, when my OTHER shoulder was tapped, I turn and still nobody was there.
Everybody else was in the house was asleep.
Needless to say, whatever it was had ice cold hands.

In Pokemon Red/Blue, a young girl in Lavender Town asks "Do you believe in ghosts?" There's also a thing called the "Ghost Glitch" where an NPC will float over to the side without stepping, apparently hovering. When I answered "No" to her question, she replied "Haha, of course not. That white hand on your shoulder, it's not real..." She then hovered to the right for 2 steps. Unsettling, and unscripted.

More on-topic, there's a philosophical proof that every night, you die when you go to sleep and a new you comes to life the next day. To someone like me, who doesn't believe in a soul, it's a compelling argument. Some evenings, I'll lie in bed thinking about it and come to the conclusion that this proof is correct. Last time this happened, I spent 2 days huddling on the corner of my bed every night, desperately trying not to sleep.
thanks now im not going to be able to sleep :) but seriously you wouldnt happen to have a link to the material it sounds interesting

No fucking way! Being completely serious, the same thing happened to me. This one time two years ago I was watching TV and in my peripheral vision there was a window and for a second I saw a face staring at me. I damn near shat my pants. I ran outside...no one there. Idk if it was the mind playing tricks or if someone really was there.
Liek OMFG!!11!

But for real, I didn't just see it in my peripheral vision, I stared at the goddamn thing for at least 10 seconds before I ran. I could make out a white face with no eyes staring blankly with it's mouth agape at me.
thats a doppleganger, you're gonna die soon, have a nice day.

But seriously, This happened to me too, theres a window over my front door with a decorative light in front of it, one night i looked out the window and saw a head hovering there staring at me, I quickly hit the lights, turned out to be the light bulb, humans are built to see faces in things.

I was genuinely terrified when I talked to that girl.

Well, my former Second Language tuition teacher IS a paedophile (pedophile, to you Americans). However, nobody ever believes me when I tell them, damnit!

Seriously, I'm obliviously doing my homework and he starts running his hand up my thigh! Unfortunately, I couldn't inform my parents due to us not speaking on sexually oriented topics (excluding biology classes).

So I just slapped his hand away and icily avoided his laviscious gaze. Luckily my 2nd language classes end this year, so I won't be seeing him ever again.
dude need to report him to police/judge/councilman/hired gun what ever you find just get him out of existance he shouldnt be allowed near anyone

Pareidolia? When your mind insists on finding recognisable things (faces/human forms) in shadows or random shapes. Possible that a passing car or something cast light on your window and made a shape suggestive of a face?

Well for creepy:

I was once playing TF2 and since I'm playing with headphones on I don't hear (and often see because of the 24' monitor) most of the stuff happening around me.
So one day I was playing and I decided to well... look on the internet for... stuff...
Being a wise person I looked at my doors to see if they are locked and... well... my entire family was there (I didn't go to any website and didn't "take care" of any business yet so it's not that bad). It feels weird when you discover 4 persons were looking at you play a game and you didn't notice o_O... also they were watching it for like 10 minutes and startled the shit out of me when I looked at them xD.
Moral: Don't use headphones xP. People may stalk on you and you don't even notice!!!

Now for the scary stuff:
One night I woke up for no reason (no dream or anything) and there was... something in the middle of my room. My hanging lamp was waving around for some reason it was really cold and the "thing" looked weird. It was basically transparent inside but there was a thick black line surrounding it (like a cartoon character, I don't remember how the black line is called), so it scared the crap out of me. Than my dog woke up (He's sleeping in my room) got startled by the thing and started wildly barking (which he almost never does) at it! That got me scared even more!
And than the thing just turned around and PASSED THROUGH MY FRIGGING DOOR!
I - being a wise man - decided to get up and look for it on the corridor (it was scary and epically AWESOME at the same time) but there was nothing.
It never appeared again so I have no idea what it was...

Wish it appeared again than I could do a photo of it.

o_o damn what's with all of you people seeing Shadow People. Anyways creepiest thing that happened to me was I was on holiday in the Philippines, and was staying in my family. One night, I think it was around like 1am or something I was awoken, not by sound or anything like that but by this "feeling". I'm facing the wall away from the door and I notice that there's the shadow of a woman on the wall, thing is, the rest of my family was out that night and I was alone in the house. Hell I couldn't move, or scream or do anything. Just stare at the shadow. It then proceeded to "fade" away. Hell I couldn't sleep at all. <_<

OMGWTFPOSTMAN!?!?!

OT: Nothing creepy has ever really happened to me. I mean I've seen black figures in my house and heard screaming when everyone was asleep... but nothing really that bad.

for me it was when I was reading a funny page on the internet (tvtropes DF page, in fact), I was laughing extremely hard, and the boom- SOMEONE ELSE'S LAUGH. I STILL can't understand it -I was past midnight when it happened, not a single sign of external sound particularly noticeable and I hear a small, high pitched laugh coming from behind me in the middle of my own laugh - WHAT THE HELL.
That's crazy. My tale isn't anything like that, though.

One night while I was refilling my car to throw more newspapers, the street lights started going out one by one (there were 4) and eventually, the one under my car went out. When it did, it was pretty much pitch black, and all I could hear was noises, like leaves cracking and blowing in the wind and other ambient, scary sounds. I later found out that my city likes to save power by turning off street lights when no one has been in the area for x amount of time. Still, it freaked me out. D:
I have a similar story. I was walking back home (I live in a village a little ways out of the local city) at about 3am, at this point the walk had sobered me up mostly. It's one of those nights where you are glad for the street lights, because it's cloudy and otherwise would be pitch black. And then they start going out, one by one.

First one was a little ways behind me, but they gradually started to catch me up. I increased my pace, but after a few more seconds the one directly above me went out, so I was in pitch darkness with the only light about 20 yards ahead: I bolted. As I caught the next light, it went out...and so on and so on. Not cool.

In hindsight, walking in the dark would have been no big deal, but at the time it freaked me out; the last thing you want whilst walking down a creepy country road is for all the lights to go out one by one, that shit is textbook horror story.

I was walking with someone through a park late at night, probably about 2 AM. We were walking and talking until we got to a group of people. There were probably about 5-10 of them, some were smoking but none of them were talking. It really freaked me out. Why were so many people in the park at 2 AM but none were talking? We both shut up and concentrated on walking through the group, hoping none of them were going to kill us. Might sound silly but I honestly thought they were either serial killers or perverts. Scawwy. :(

Number 1: Me and my friend were walking back to my house at about 11:30 at night when we turn around to see a little old Asian woman walking 20 metres behind us. Me, being a horror movie fan, was a little unsettled but thought nothing of it. Keep on walking, about 10 minutes later turn around and there she is again, still behind us. We walk abit faster and luckily she turns off a street, and then we run the rest of the way back to my house.

Number 2: A while ago I was sitting in my house and my mum was out, so it was just me, my sis and her boyfriend. It's a windy night and i hear a noise outside my door. I think it's the wind and ignore it. 10 Minutes later my sister calls to me, asking if I've heard a noise from outside. I'm starting to freak out and tell her that I heard a noise from outside, and she tells me that she thinks that there might be someone outside. I go to the front door and find that it's unlocked, and am now freaked out. Me and her boyfriend decide to check it out and see if there is something. We go outside (stupidly) and check. Theres nothing there, but as I'm checking I hear something coming from the bushes next to me which sounded a hell of a lot like someone breathing. We get back in the house and my sister isn't on the couch where she was. I'm now terrified, thinking my sister is dead, when she calls out from upstairs. We pretty much sprint up there to see her staring out the window at some flashing lights. It's a police car, which makes us all feel a lot more nervous. I spent the rest of the night downstairs holding a hockey stick in case anyone came in.
I found out the next day that the police were looking for a criminal in my neighbourhood. Dodn't sleep very well for a week

This is why I hate ghost stories! They have no reason to logically be able to exist, but hallucinations and coincidence can only take you so far. My logical side is conflicting with these stories and they are both completely mutually exclusive. It almost makes me want to see a ghost so I know it's real.

A while back, a new guy came to my school. He was there for about 6 months before he left again, and for most of those 6 months I never spoke to or interacted with him. The only time we spoke was about a month before he left, he tapped me on the shoulder and when I turned around, he told me my name and address.
I don't understand, did he randomly just say to you
"Your name is John Smith and you live at 123 Apple Street" or something? Then he just walked away? Or did he say something after that? Still creepy anyway.

Anyway, nothing really too traumatic or scary has happened to me. Although sometimes I wake up hearing screaming from outside or something. One particular time I was staying with my brother overseas and I woke up at 4:00AM and I heard an argument out on the street which sounded like it was between a 20-something year old man and a 7-10 year old. It was more depressing than scary.

]I remember one time I was listening to "A Day in the Life" by the Beatles. That was the first time I heard the secret ending portion of the song. It was night.

Also, today, I listened to "Revolution 9" by The Beatles. I then listen to it backwards. I turned down my speakers all the way, and paused the song, but for some reason, I could hear whispers coming from the speakers.
Another thing today was when I paused it, the music was still playing, I kept pressing the pause button, but it wouldn't stop. Just to let you know I find that song very unsettling, and can barely listen to 10 seconds of the thing. I felt like Paul McCarthney might jump out and eat my soul.

Also, anyone heard the song Frankie Teardrop by Suicide?
Heard it for the first time today...
*shivers*
I once had whispers from my speakers too. It turned out that the RUSE beta hadn't shut down properly and was still playing the ambience noises from the military control room, but it was still fairly scary at the time.

Yeah, he just walked up to me, said it, and walked away.
He moved away, though so its all good.

Being the only one in the house, and hearing that same clutter and creak you get when you walk over the balcony. The front door hadn't been opened, we have no pets, and I swear to god I was the only one inside.

Even bought a knife up with me to see if it was safe.
