GAH! I rergret making this thread! I heard that laugh again, this time I was eating a pizza hotpocket, stepped on some broken glass ( OW ) and now I have 92 or so stories of how disturbing my world is.

automatron said:
Number 2: A while ago I was sitting in my house and my mum was out, so it was just me, my sis and her boyfriend. It's a windy night and i hear a noise outside my door. I think it's the wind and ignore it. 10 Minutes later my sister calls to me, asking if I've heard a noise from outside. I'm starting to freak out and tell her that I heard a noise from outside, and she tells me that she thinks that there might be someone outside. I go to the front door and find that it's unlocked, and am now freaked out. Me and her boyfriend decide to check it out and see if there is something. We go outside (stupidly) and check. Theres nothing there, but as I'm checking I hear something coming from the bushes next to me which sounded a hell of a lot like someone breathing. We get back in the house and my sister isn't on the couch where she was. I'm now terrified, thinking my sister is dead, when she calls out from upstairs. We pretty much sprint up there to see her staring out the window at some flashing lights. It's a police car, which makes us all feel a lot more nervous. I spent the rest of the night downstairs holding a hockey stick in case anyone came in.
I found out the next day that the police were looking for a criminal in my neighbourhood. Dodn't sleep very well for a week

THIS ONE IS THE WORST! in the third house I lived in, going outside at night would weaken your sanity and increase your paranoia. and why did a just like up slenderman again!? goodbye sleep!

Let's see... creepiest thing for me is pretty explanatory, but still creepy at the time. When I don't sleep enough I hallucinate. Like, I'm bad enough I sometimes hallucinate after not sleeping for... maybe 24 hours... Usually, it's not too bad, just things in my peripherals, or bugs (gaah, they're terrible crawling all over me and appearing/disappearing out of nowhere!).
Creepy... that's EXACTLY what happens to me. I got really worried about it, but I feel a little bit better now.
One time I thought there was a crab in my hair, and frozen spiders on the floor... It sent me crazy for a while because I thought I was going mad. Thankfully, I haven't had them in a while so I feel better.
I always saw silhouettes in my window and made my ex get up and check outside every time I saw one, he took the piss out of me though. I've freaked my boyfriend out by lashing out at him when I've been sleeping and made him change the sheets at about 2am because I could feel bugs.

It's not so much a creepy story, but just something VERY weird that I can't explain.

I'm walking through the park with my friend Sam. We've gone off the main pathway and are trudging through dense woodland. We saw a dear (^_^) but that's not part of the story, haha.

Basically, as we were walking, we both suddenly heard this really strange sound. It was unlike anything I had ever heard before and it was LOUD (on par with a pneumatic drill). The only way I could describe it was to say it sounded like a UFO. Honest to god. Sure, you might ask "how would you know what a UFO sounds like?", but seriously, if you heard this noise you'd agree with me. It was like the typical sound used in really old sci-fi movies (not like Star Wars, where they just make jet engine sounds, but with bleeps and blops and whirligigs!)

We looked around us in every direction, but couldn't see anything that could be making the sound. I was convinced it was coming from above, but the trees obscured our vision. The noise was too loud to be coming from far away and I heard no doppler effect, so it had to be coming from a stationary object, meaning it couldn't have just been a weird sounding plane flying overhead, or ground vehicle in the disctance. The noise just started one second, with no gradual build up, then dissappeared about 15 seconds later, without slowly trailing off.

I live near Bonnybridge in Scotland, which funnily enough, just so happens to be UFO sighting capital of the world. I myself do believe in there being other lifeforms out there, but I've never believed in UFOs. Unfortunately, of everyone that Sam and I have told, none have believed us about the incident. I would love for someone to give me a logical explanation behind what I heard, because the only explanation I can think of is that the Dear we had seen 20 minutes prior had been hiding in a tree with a Kazoo in its mouth, haha. (Or just some very strange sounding bird.... probably dying.)

No fucking way! Being completely serious, the same thing happened to me. This one time two years ago I was watching TV and in my peripheral vision there was a window and for a second I saw a face staring at me. I damn near shat my pants. I ran outside...no one there. Idk if it was the mind playing tricks or if someone really was there.
Liek OMFG!!11!

But for real, I didn't just see it in my peripheral vision, I stared at the goddamn thing for at least 10 seconds before I ran. I could make out a white face with no eyes staring blankly with it's mouth agape at me.
It was the Slender Man! http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.166886-Slender-Man-Myth#4446467

OT: I was upstairs finnishing some school work when I heard the front door unlock. I was home alone and my parents weren't due back for about 2 hours, so I went down to investigate. The doors were all still locked and everything was where it had been ealier. What the hell?

Also a couple of times I've been out and at about midnight there has been a sream like nothing you have ever heard before, it just makes your blood run cold...

I have a very strong imagination, so when I get stressed I tend to see things, just for a split second. Over the past few months I must have seen about 4 or so Japanese-looking Ring type ghosts around the place. One outside the window when I was in school, one floating in my kitchen, one walking next to me on the road and just the other night, one of them on my staircase, screaming at me through the bannisters. I've seen other weird stuff too, like a cat glowing green, but most of it is ghosts. They give me the creeps, but I know they aren't real.

He's a deviant, his life is probably shitty enough as it is. He's not one those priests OR the late Michael Jackson. He's nobody enough to not be menace to society.

This despite my being a heterosexual male, which takes his offense upto 2 counts.

Also for the record, I did not enjoy it.

Pareidolia? When your mind insists on finding recognisable things (faces/human forms) in shadows or random shapes. Possible that a passing car or something cast light on your window and made a shape suggestive of a face?
He claims to have stared at it for 10, long seconds.

he also claims it HAD NO EYES.

did you not read is other posts?
enhance your calm buddy.

Need not be a fleeting glimpse. Pareidolia is the same thing that lets people see images of Mother Theresa in a slice of toast and you can stare at that for an hour if you like.

So is it more likely that a fluke of light or fingerprint grease or whatever it was on glass made a shape suggestive of a face? Or there was an eyeless thing one floor up staring in a window?

I admit it, it makes me chuckle a little to hear about people jumping at shadows and tricks of the mind and how nervous it seems to be making some readers.

But then I would love to actually see something for real.

I got this one. The only thing to almost make me beleive in ghosts.

The setting is a snowy night in the middle of winter in Utah at a supposedly haunted house that partially burned down. Visibility is down to about 10 or so feet in front of you. Between the thick falling snow and the complete and total darkness. We brought flashlights, but what is the fun in that?

Three of my friends (one who was in the band), his four fellow band members, and I, all showed up to take some pictures for a band (the whole reason we went, they wanted pictures for their album in a haunted house) it was going great. It started with the horses. Hear a couple of sounds, and out of the gloom comes these shapes. Turned out the land was being used as a pasture and was full of horses. After that we discovered what had to be one of the most photogenic run down houses ever. It was constructed with a large beam that ran the length of the roof. Well the main beam in the roof had fallen in during the fire in the kitchen. There was snow pouring in, with just a few beams of moon light breaking through the clouds to illuminate everything. The house looked a good hundred years old, and at the same time looked fairly new. Walking through what must have been the living room we where all startled by a creek of the door, followed by what sounded like scratching coming from behind the door. Two of the band members headed over the the door and another called me over. I was taking in the scene in the kitchen a bit longer then everyone else. I got into the room right as they where pushing the door away from the wall. I see a dark shape shoot out from behind the door and both of the guys fall on their asses. A round of "what the hell was that!" later and the bird that had been behind the door is spotted in the roof. For the remainder of the night we all had a bit of fun, taking turns scaring each other.

It's getting late, we have seen the house in it's entirety, and as we go to leave the band decides they want one last picture in front of what is left of the giant picture window. I decided to sneak out the door, creep as silently as I could through the snow, and leap up from the window grab my friend and scream. Good fun.

The unexplainable part comes later. As I left the house, and between everyone else coming and going the front steps where trampled down. But still there where several prints on the front steps, that where about the size and shape you would expect a small child's feet to be. All over. I didn't remember seeing them when I left, and for good reason. Those four prints couldn't have been there. See the trampled down snow had a good half inch of fresh snow on it. You could clearly see my prints as I left the house in the snow, and you could see the other prints on mine. As through something had walked over the tracks I made in the couple of minutes it took me to walk to the window scare my friend and walk back.

It was spooky. I know there has to be a good rational explanation, but there at the time. It really got me thinking for a few minutes that just maybe, you never really know for certain.
wow, for a moment there i thought your profile picture moved...
HOLY CRAP IT DID IT AGAIN.
No, wait, it's just a GIF.

I was lying on my bed, trying to sleep when I heard the most unearthly moaning. I would have gone in my jams if I ate as much as I did now. Anyway, at first I thought it was a dog or something but this argument seemed to be defeated by the sheer hollowness of tone. It was like the default pitch of human voice, lacking both lightness and depth.

It didn't seem either animalistic or human. The best I could think of was an old woman whose voice had been partially lost. Even this didn't seem plausible because the noise just dragged on for about 10 minutes.

Eventually, I did get to sleep but only after about 3 hours.

If anyone doesn't know the lore, your hearing the Banshee weep is supposed to represent mourning of death. You or someone close to you will die.

As my father was out of town, I was naturally apprehensive for him and my mother.

The moan could be well integrated into a survival-horror game.

Me and a few of my friends went to America on holiday a few years ago. We went to a lake with a jet ski (belonged to one of them). We spend a few days jet skiing, and slept in a few tents. During one night we kept on hearing these weird noises, sounded kind of like fox's cries. The next day when we woke up, outside our tent was a dead deer. It had been half eaten and there was blood everywhere. Later on we heard on the news that a farmer had shot and killed a bear that had been feeding on his animals. Naturally, we assumed that this same bear had killed the deer outside our tent. We were all pretty creeped out by it.

I know it's not creepy in a paranormal way, but still. It was a fucking bear.

The creepiest things that have happened to me are mainly in dreams (but boy I've had some freeky dreams in my time).
But creepy moments: It was late at night, I mean half one in the morning late and we live in an upside down house, i.e. the kitchen is upstairs of the bathroom. So there I am, half one in the morning, about to brush my teeth, only one other person's in the house and they're asleep and I head banging in the kitchen upstairs. Right, a, bove, me.
Now I'm paranoid at the best of times at night and I freeze, totally, 'cos I can't recall if I've locked the front door or not. And all I can hear is this banging that sounds just that little bit too much like footsteps.
I crawled into bed after skulking to my room.

In hindsight it wasn't all that creepy but at the time it set my heart racing.
(Also, we have a extracter fan that makes knocking sounds when the wind blows so it was probably that, but late at night when you're tired and alone, rational thinking goes out of the window some what).

That was a close call man. If the bear had decided to go for you in the tent there's not much you could have done to stay alive.

Did it look like the pale-man? http://pi-comic.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/pale_man.jpg

What exactly do you think it was?
I could of gone my entire life without seeing that, thank you very much.

As far as creepy stuff goes,
Once I was in the woods with a friend. Just as he was trying to scare me by saying "Watch out, I think there are wolves the forest" I spotted two glowing red eyes not too far from the ground staring at us, followed by an immediate grrr. Needless to say, we ran like hell.
Shortly thereafter, once we got to our cabin, all of the other guest cabins had their door open, their lights turned on, and were completely empty.

Mine's not a horror story per se, but it's still creeped me out. I was about ten years old, and my sister and I were staying at this hotel in the middle of nowhere. I get a bit bored, so I leave our room and have a little look around. Naturally, the ambient sounds freak me out, (wind whistling, doors creaking) but as I turn to leave, the creepiest looking man comes out of his room, and stares at me for about five seconds, solid in the eye. I turn to go back to my room, and I start walking back. But after a while, I realize he's following me. That's right, this creepy man in a hotel in the middle of nowhere was tailing me back to my room. Suffice to say, I did not stop running until I had locked that door. No doubt the scariest moment in my life.
