I so very don't get Catcher in the Rye. Not only did it fail to offend me as promised, but it failed to be as inspirational as promised as well.

The Great Gatsby sucks. If you like it, your lit teacher has successfully tricked you.

I dislike F. Scott Fitzgerald's work with a passion.
Omg your so right. My teacher sat there and tried to convince me that it was the greatest book ever. When in reality its the worst..after twilight[/quote

OH THANK GOD SOMEONE AGREES WITH ME!

Bioshock
E.T.
...And yes, The Shawshank Redemtion and The Green Mile.
All of this, thank you. None of it is really bad, but neither is it world shockingly good. I just don't get why so many people name ET, Shawshank Redemption or Green Mile as their favorite movie ever. Makes me wonder how many movies they've actually seen.

Bioshock I never got into because I didn't care much for the atmosphere, though I can see why some people liked it. Just not my thing, I guess.

Also, the Harry Potter and Dan Brown hypes. Sure, they were entertaining, but not much more than that.

Nirvana. Yes, they made one decent song that apparently reflected a generation of disfunctional youths. That doesn't make them the best band in the world. Far from it.

Ironically, Kurt had the cheek to say Guns n Roses were one hit wonders?!
I agree with this post.

Plus I love the Tatchcoma! :D

(not sure if my spelling of the robot name was right or not)
Thanks on both accounts. It's spelt 'Tachikoma'. Bow down to the awesomely cute robots!

I don't get why people love Halo. I also don't understand the love for Left4Dead... And plenty of other games now that I think about it.

Outside of gaming I generally like popular things, but I don't get the appeal of Star Wars or Lord of the Rings... I can see why people like them, but why they're so incredibly popular I just don't see. Personally I find them boring but that's just me.
If you've only played Left 4 Dead on the Xbox, then your opinion is not fully formed.
I'm a PC gamer.
Oh. Okay then.. Wow. You're one of the few people I've ever seen that doesn't like L4D on the PC. Do you like the other Valve games or do you only dislike Left 4 Dead?

Call of Duty. I don't really see it as all that great a game. I played 4, but it just wasn't for me.

Guns 'n roses tbh.....just dont get the appeal to bad singing and good guitar repeated over and over again in some cases.

Good grades. Seems odd but the amount of people with 9 A* at GCSE who are pretty much missing any trace of common sense or just simply retarded at doing anything that isnt writing baffles me and people would hire them even though they cant make cofee...

Halo.
And just about every critically acclaimed band these days I can't stand.

Left 4 dead is easily Valve's weakest game. While it's by no means bad, for a multiplayer focused game it just doesn't have any longevity. It's pretty fun when I get 3 people I know playing it but... For me Team fortress 2 eats it for breakfast.

Facebook. It's grown into this "widespread social phenomena" when it's really just a forum/mini ap mish-mash.

With books, if the cover sports praise from major newspapers I tend to give it a pass.
Learned that from DaVinci Code *shudder*.

-Nirvana. How they managed to become the musical representation of a generation is baffling. It's all mumbling and three chords.
-Call of Duty games, Gears of War games, Halo games. Just fail to see the magical appeal. Mostly because Gears of War = Halo in my mind.
-The Office I just don't find funny. Maybe I need to be an office worker.
-99% of racing games. I fail to see the appeal in "realistic" driving.
-Harry Potter books are mediocre, Twilight is awful.
-Any popular band from the last 5 years with one or two exceptions.

I may get a lot of heat from this, but I absolutely HATED Shadow of the Colossus. I'm usually a huge fan of art house games that push the envelope like Braid, Spider, Katamari Damaci (dunno if that's really considered Art House) and even Ico (same team). But in this case, I found utterly boring and stopped playing after I spent 10 minutes trying to kill the first colossus. Sure, the graphics were amazing and so were the music and general ambiance, but it wasn't enough for me to actually keep playing...

The Lost Boys does not in any way deserve the amount of fandom it has. It is an utter failure of writing, casting, direction, editing and scoring.

Batman: Arkham Asylum...the comic, that is. It's generally considered to be one of the best Batman stories ever. I don't understand why in the least bit. Batman is completely and utterly out of character. I understand the need to make him question his own sanity, but he flips out during a simple word game. Really? He also does nothing while someone is under attack directly in front of him, and near the end he says the bad guy deserved to die. The art is...okay I guess. It's just not my thing. It can be hard to tell what I'm looking at, but the worst part is Joker's dialogue. They use a bright red font that clashes with the rest of the colors, making it really hard to read at times.

The backstory involving Armadeus Arkham is cool, but now you can get the exact same thing by playing the game. Which I think is a trillion times better.

Also, Avatar. It's pretty and has some cool action scenes, but the story and characters are bland.

Bioshock and Portal mostly. Whats with all the Shawshank hate here too, that and The Great Gatsby. I loved both of them, maybe not The Great Gatsby as much but I still thought it to be better than pretty much anything I had to read in high school. Interestingly enough there's like 2 or 3 people I know who'd agree with me on that and everyone else disliked it, they even did a poll on which book was people's favorites and Catcher in the Rye was on top and The Great Gatsby was in last...

Bioshock.

It was dull, poorly paced and the HUD had some weird low-res effect that bothered me for 13 hours of gameplay. The story was also non-existent for all but about 5 minutes.

The sequel was much better.
