Godfather. It wasn't a boring movie, but it really wasn't an entertaining movie. The only scene I liked is

When that director wakes up with a horse head in his bed

Serenity is the one that astounds me the most. I saw that film twice with two different groups of people, and our consensus was that the movie sucked. I logged into Rottentomatoes, only to find that Serenity had an 81% approval rating. We just couldn't fathom out why it was so great. Granted we hadn't seen the tv show Firefly first (only one of our number had ever seen the show), but even if we excused all the stuff we weren't familiar with (like characters and setting), the dialogue and action was some of the cheesiest stuff we had ever seen. When I say cheesy, I mean cheesy in an annoying way - not cheesy in a kooky, self-aware kind of way.

Is Twilight critically acclaimed? I thought it was just popular to massive amounts of rabid preteen and mid teen girls. I can't believe anyone outside that demographic would even watch it.
No. Your not suprising anyone.

Not sure if it was critically acclaimed or not, but I hated the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still. The original was pretty good, the remake was a preachy diatribe on why man is 'evil' and had no redeeming qualities to speak of. Plus there were some large continuity issues that I hated.
It was almost universally panned. Again, not so unusual. Though I would be interested if someone hated the much approved original.

What the fuck is so great about Catcher in the Rye??
That book annoyed the hell out of me. Perhaps I had gotten used to the concept of an unreliable narrator from many of the books subsequently released by authors influenced by Salinger's character. Perhaps I just didn't place much weight on a narrator being unreliable. Either way, I found him really irritating, to the point where I just couldn't tolerate reading of his antics.

The Departed, most probably.

I mean, I like crime dramas, I like Martin Scorsese's films (Well, his early stuff), and I liked Infernal Affairs. But the Departed came off as so utterly full of itself. I didn't enjoy it at all, yet everyone, I mean everyone, I've ever talked to about it except for my dad (who watched it with me) thinks it's a masterpiece.

On that note, Mad Men and The Wire.
Have you seen Infernal Affairs? That was the original Hong Kong movie, before it was remade as The Departed. I think the original is better, though I don't see any point in recommending it to you - you already know exactly how the story goes from the remake, so there will be no suprises.

I. Hate. Jane Austen.

I think it's literary drivel topped with dirt and shaving cream that most people try to pass off as an ice cream sundae. But it's not. It's a lot of junk wrapped in boring, and I'll never ever understand why people go all swoony over Mr. Darcy. He's not that interesting!

Frankenstein. I rather enjoyed quite a few of the books I studied in English Lit, particularly Dracula and Turn of the Screw, I'm a HUGE SF fan, and I thought the concept was fucking cool, but Frankenstein just didn't strike me as 'classic' material. You could really tell Shelley was 17 when she wrote it...

Edit: And on that note,

Unreliable narrators are fucking superb when used for psychological and horror purposes, but really grate when it's the character's egotism, I find.

Oh, I jsut remembered how Jane Eyre sucks. In fact scratch that. ALL of the Bronte books I have ever read have sucked with the exception of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. Anne Bronte realised how big-a-douches the flawed, anti-hero males of her sister's books were, so she satired them in Tenant. Perhaps that is why Charlotte tried to get rid of that awesome book, thus turning Anne into the least read sister of the bunch.

Out of all things, that bloody band, Nirvana.

I get people all over the place throughout the years telling me what amazing musicians these guys are and how their music is full of soul, how they revolutionised rock music and all that kind of bull. I've listened to Nirvana time and time again to see if I think any differently than before and my opinion of them has not changed. They are just not growing on me whatsoever. Their music is downright boring and they suck.

I'll chuck The Beatles and Coldplay in the same pit as I've got similar opinions of them.

And Wall-E.
What is this I don't even. I loved Wall-E.
Remember the scene where Wall-E is riding that cart with Eve, and they enter a lobby area where that big receptionist robot is hanging from the ceiling? Wall-E waves to it, then it waves back, and when he passes it again later the thing waves at him again. It was a really cute moment.

It was also much deeper than the main villain. A minor, nameless character you only see twice for not even two minutes had more personality and character development than the primary antagonist.

I have other reasons for hating that movie, but Otto is the big one. The first act was great, but then they brought the humans in and ruined everything. It would have been better-suited for one of those short films they play before the actual movies.

Half Life. It's really not all that fun, and the story isn't that great.

And Avatar might have amazing visuals, but with 10 years you'd think he could make a plot better than ripping of Dances with Wolves?

Oh, and Wall-E was pretty bad too, but I'm sure someone mentioned that already. When they brought in the morbidly obese humans, and everything after that, it just fell apart.

I usually completely piss at critical acclaims in music genre because let's be honest, they are all just full of shit.

I do the same with most of the movie reviews. Not with the Movie Bob though (wink wink)

And it is somewhat different for me in case of games reviews. For some reason those are usually OK (EXCEPT FOR SPORE REVIEWS! ARGH! I HATE THIS GAME) and actually quite close to the truth. It's still best to ask the actual players what THEY think though.

But basically what I don't get is how the hell did all this shitty, piece of crap, goo covered, broken and repeatedly puked out music makes it to the radio and how did it manages to be called "Great" by the DJ's. Are they MAD? Or just underpayed?
And after that how does the same piece of crap wins multiple music awards? Maybe I'm just weird but when I see that literally everyone comments that "this song sucks" and yet it gets multiple awards and is constantly played on the waves... something is really wrong here.

I don't understand why GTA 4 is the highest rated game ever. It's a good game, but not perfect, and definitely one of the series' weaker offerings.

Most people seem to really like GTA 4, but honestly I think it's shit as well. It's trying desperately to be 'realistic' which in the end just means you get killed more quickly by the shocking combat system.

I also really x 20 hate dance music. Not old 70s-80s stuff but modern dance music, like rave and shit like that. I know it's not really critically acclaimed, but it is so ridiculously popular and I just don't get it. endless repetition, no real instruments or vocals, only the occasional melody and all the fucking songs sound the same - THESE ARE ALL BAD THINGS! Why would anyone like that shit??

Oh. Okay then.. Wow. You're one of the few people I've ever seen that doesn't like L4D on the PC. Do you like the other Valve games or do you only dislike Left 4 Dead?
I love all the other games Valve have done, and I love Steam. Half-Life is my favorite series! I refuse to be a fanboy though, and although I did give L4D a fair shot it just never grew on me. Maybe I'll try it again sometime and see if it can change my mind.

I have never played L4D2 though.
