This is something I suffer from greatly...maybe you can overcome it, while I go back into my crazy world.

I have crushes on the following chracters
-Kyouya Ootori
-Tamaki Suoh
-Kaname Kuran
-Zero Kiryuu
-Roy Mustang

So yeah...I have no life...oh! and me and my bf cosplay as Haruhi and Tamaki, so that doesn't help either...

Thanks for the replies everyone. From the replies i've gotten, it doesn't seem to have happened to as many people as i might have thought, so that makes me worry a little bit more. But on the bright side, i'll hopefully be over it in a week or so.
Don't worry. Attraction is common, doesen't mean you'll be particularly in love with them. Theres nothing wrong with being attracted :D
Just be reasonable, and contact help if it ever does get too far, which is highly unlikely.
Good thinking. If i ever get to the stage where i start thinking i want to marry her or anything of the sort, i think professional help will be required.
No, the time when professional help is required is when you go on a date (comes before marriage) with her...people have done that and well....yeah, that's creepy.

Luckily, i don't see you as the type of guy who would do that...usually the guys who want to date or marry a anime character are very lonely and very reclusive (or so i've heard) and i doubt your both.

Also, to make you feel less crazy and messed up, i commonly get anime characters (usually ones that i like or have a crush on) stuck in my head and hear their voices...yeah, my mind is TOO imaginive.
Currently i have Kiri komori stuck in my head which i don't mind cause she's usually so quiet i don't notice her.
Thanks, hopefully i don't fit either the lonely or reclusive category lol. But seriously, it would be strange to go on a date with a fictional character. How could you anyway, i can't see it would be possible (thankfully). Hmmm, the voices thing is interesting, you must have a good imagination. That's a good thing i believe :).
Thank you. Also the way they do it is have a T.V. screen with the anime character of choice on the other side of the table with them (dinner date) with a plate of food in front of it...It's really quite creepy and sad at the same time. The only reason i know this is because i need to know my people, even the disturbing ones...I consider myself to be an anime(and gaming) otaku.

Having a crush on a fake anime character is no different than having a crush on a real hot woman you will never get, like megan fox. Fantasy is fantasy and generally a good thing, just don't take it to unrealistic creepy stalker level.
Yeah, there certainly is a boundary that i'm going to make sure i don't overstep. Upon reflection, crushes that i've had on real women seem reminiscent of this one, so; short-lived, slightly euphoric, and probably pretty empty/shallow.

I have a massive crush on lucy, of elfen lied, and C.C. from Code geass, I bought her hug pillow.

But you see, I have a girlfriend that cosplays as those characters, so it's okay.

Hmmm, that is a bit creepy. I didn't know such a thing existed =O. Bit of a waste of a decent meal though. But on the other hand she's be a good listener lol.

Wow, that is quite a few crushes. I'm not sure i've ever had more than one at a time, i always find one at a time to be overwhealming enough. But you have a bf so i'm probably okay :). I however, have no gf, so i don't realy have any girls in my life to distract me from the imaginary ones :(.

True, ture, but thankfully i know noone like that and i would never do that. First, that's a waste of perfectly good food. Second, If i'm ever going to date an anime character one of my requirements would be that she come out of the T.V. screen and exist in the real world. Third, If 1 has been ignored and 2 has yet to happen and yet i'm dating an anime character, i have arranged it so that if i do my friends will beat me senseless or at least until i have some sense smacked into my head.
Kiri: Wait...this sense? *Holds up a thick round wooden stick with the word sense writen on it*
Fig: Yep. Another good life lesson, find friends who are willing to beat the crap out of you for your own good. =D

Well, it's a bit embarassing, so please don't laugh... too much :(. Do you know the anime Azumanga Daioh? Well, that Osaka character. She was just a unique character and didn't fall into the typical tall, busty anime chick thing. But yeah, still not good.
Most of the people here have a crush on a game character or a celebrity whether they admit to it or not.

The celebrities are probably as fictional as any anime characters, and both are designed to get an emotional response to you. Hardly new as well as people have been falling for Mister D'Arcy or Betty Boop since their creation.

As long as you don't go all Garth on us
(And those people who are laughing at you probably have some REALLY weird ones like Jigglypuff :) )

Weird like as in that bird from the cocoa puffs commercials? Or weird as in the face rapers from Aliens?

Shit. They're on to us, my love!

As for the post the OP linked to, I'm pretty sure that's positively ancient copypasta.

I feel attached to Deidara, which is weird considering he's a guy and I find homosexuality to be disgusting.

Does it depend on why you feel attracted to them i.e. whether it's a physical side of it (it's a character that constantly shows her breasts or under-skirt shots) or whether it's something to do with their personality?

I haven't fallen for an anime character, but I certainly love Heather from Silent Hill 3 and Victoria McPherson from Still Life. Reason being, I love [real] women with strong minds and a bit of an attitude. They just happen to present those qualities. But I don't find the characters physically attractive (Vic's dress sense is terrible!).

Jessica Rabbit is the most beautiful woman on earth, and she's not even real, that makes me cry.

"Love is Blind" applies to more than that which you can't see. The whole drives attached to finding something attractive are fairly nonsensical.

The important part is you do not endeavor to dissolve the cognitive understanding of how unfeasible this situation is. There lies a path to madness, such as killing yourself to join a concept which doesn't exist even in death.

Try some mindfulness meditation [http://www.alternativedepressiontherapy.com/mindfulness-meditation-technique.html]. Maybe get some cognitive therapy [http://www.nacbt.org/whatiscbt.htm].

It's not that you have to ban Osaka entirely, you just have to put her in the right place. She's an skilled attempt to realize the precious nature of a girl, and frame her in such a way that you can't help but like her. Your Osaka may be out there, as she's a composite of real girls that they attempted to capture in animated cells. She'll be different here and there, but real, and you'll never find her if you're going to settle for an pale impression.

Personally, I think Anime girls are hot - they were designed to be so. However, I don't obsess over being with them. Instead, I keep them in a little virtual harem that I whip out whenever I want to refresh my mind on female aesthetics.

Dude, fuck what the other people say. It's an issue, which needs to be addressed. Of course, I wouldn't tell anyone you know about it or you'll never live it down, just DON'T WATCH IT ANYMORE. Forget about it, and avoid all that shit for a while.

As long as it doesn't affect your real love life, you'll be fine. It's perfectly normal to feel an attraction or connection to a fictional character, they're supposed to be depicted that way.

As long as it isn't developing into a fetish or a very abnormal thing, then I suppose it's fine to feel emotional towards an anime character.
Exactly, it's normal to have fantasies, you might relate to that characters personality or their appearance might resemble the type you find attractive in real women.

Here's a fun fact: The body does not differentiate physically between what is real or imagined. That is why you can feel attracted to what is not real in an emotional and in... well a physical sense.
