Scientists from Italy and sweden have developed what is thought to be the first artificial hand with feeling. Researchers say it works by connecting human nerve endings with tiny electronic sensors.

A man who is 22 years old is now in control of this hand after surgery.

This man can now control this hand and feel things when he picks things up but this isn't the end of it, this could lead to many other artifical limbs with feeling.

What do you think about this?

Is it something that could change the world? Will we be on the knees to our cyborg overlords in 5years time? Will this benefit you or your family in anyway if it is offered world wide? Would you cut your hand off just to have it!?

I know I would ;)

I'd gladly replace the weaknesses of flesh for the beauty of steel.
*Ahem*
anyway, I'm sure they already have prototype cybernetic limbs in America which have feeling.
oh wait... they were using the nerve endings for the 'phantom limb' thingymabob...
and then they just have to move something-or-other and such-and-such that and...
nevermind, I've confused myself. :|

But still, I'd prefer Machine or Flesh.

Anything which gives more freedom to someone suffering a disability is welcomed by me. I think it's fantastic that medical science is advancing the way it is and things like this, previously only thought to be science fiction are becoming more and more like reality. It's excellent news.

LIES. Professor Kevin Warwack of Reading University, England did it first. I should know, I'm one of his students...

Wow, that's awesome stuff.
As for your question, no, I would not mutilate myself for that.
But if I'm ever in an accident and require replacement...

What it works properly and people can feel with it? Has he showed anyone it or put it into action? I need a bit of proof .(unless i'm being gullable again :| )

I second that, although I think it's still decades until this technology can be in common use...

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I wouldn't cut off my own hand to use that. Moral issues aside, I don't believe any techno-hand can ever match the full operational and feeling capacity of an actual human hand.

Well,it would be pretty bloody idiotic to replace fully functional arm with that, but hey! It's good for replacements!

I think we can write this down as another scientific sucsess.

Here ya go.

Under Project Cyborg:

From there he was able to control the robot arm in the University of Reading and to obtain feedback from sensors in the finger tips. He also successfully connected ultrasonic sensors on a baseball cap and experienced a form of extra sensory input.
This is why I wanted him as my teacher.

Right with you my man. I'll see you in the cyborg queue. :p

YES!!

If it has all the dexterity of my natural hand and doesn't feel pain, I'd gladly swap my hand for the robotic one, it'd be great for parkour.

Fellow cyborgs unite! Kill all humans!

Has it been connected to someone who has lost his/her arm? or is he still working on that.

I'm kinda a posthumanist, so this is pretty amazing! It's the way forward, and should be embraced.

But now I sound like some kind of cultist..
