Any series that sees success the current AAA industry will try and change into the same type of game they think has wide appeal and can sell 10 million copies. That means open world, "gritty" and "realistic", serious, and drab.

Dead Rising fans prepare to have your favorite series ruined.
Disagree. Realistic = Challenge. Most people want their skills increased. How do you think they find Drone Fliers.
I think you are conflating a certain type of realism for difficulty when the two have absolutely nothing to do with each other. In fact one of the aspects that was central to the Dead Rising games was the timed nature of the missions, if you failed to complete any of them in time you couldn't get the best ending. That will be removed from this latest version. More often than not this turn towards gritty realism and drab grey and brown color schemes is also accompanied by a reduction in difficulty.
I get the sense you have never played the original Dead Rising games. Have you? Also what the heck are you talking about when you say drone fliers? You mean people who pilot the drones used to kill people in real life? Because that is something completely different than gaming.

I'll bet anything that just PR drivel designed to shut up people that are hating on the series taking a darker and gritter tone. Even if it is true, if this is allowed to pass then it will send the message to the current developers and anyone who might take up the reins in the future that darker and gritter works, so they might take that as a sight to eventually phase out the humorous part of the francise entirely, and then there will be little to nothing unique about the series at all.
