What he said. Planescape might be a tad hard to get into, but it IS a fantastic game. Must-play, really.
he's a she, thankyouverymuch^^

now you people did it btw, i'm reinstalling PT and trying to get it to run on my win7 64bit. let's see how this goes...

...Oh right. Sorry.

Also, I think there may be some graphical improvement pack for PT somewhere out there. And the GoG version runs on new Windows systems, if that helps at all.

Planescape isn't Deus Ex... I wonder how many people reinstalled Deus Ex because of this topic...

anyway just to make it so another person does.

Xenogears. Gameplay and presentation were imperfect, but story was better than one finds in most novels, to say nothing of RPGs.

One thing that annoys me about Xenogears is how it seems at points it makes it seem like the game doesn't want to be played with things like the high number of random battles, the tower of babel dungeon, and how slow the text moves with no way to speed it up. I mean I don't even read that slowly but every time I try to replay the game the text speed drives me crazy. The odd thing is that I don't remember that annoying me when I first played it when it first came out. The story I remember being cool and awesome but this was back like over a decade ago, I have no idea how much of it was because of the fact I was much more ignorant than I am now of things. But I think Xenogears did get me interested in reading more than ever combined with reading about it on forums. This got me to read random philosophy and psychology books. Hence. maybe Xenogears cool story made it so years later the game would end up boring because my reading ability progressed to the point where the slow text annoys the heck out of me.

Hum. Well. Quite a while ago I played Warhammer: Age of Reckoning just for the story, or perhaps I should say world or lore, but I figure the things are vaguely similar at the very least. I didn't try it out for gameplay purposes but because I've always wanted to play as a Chaos Worshipper with Tzeentch actually being my favourite god (of everything), in fact, if he existed in reality, I would worship him without doubt.

Erh.. on to the point though. When I was proclaimed a champion of Tzeentch and donned armor which was apparently partially melded with my flesh, I felt pretty damn good. That and tricking a bloodthirster was a pretty sweet plotline, too. I don't think any of my characters have ever looked as amazing as that and I've played everything from Wow to Guild wars and Rift for quite a bit.

I stopped playing after I experienced the Chaos Wastes and a bit more though, mostly because RP was barely possible and if I can't RP in an MMO I'm out, usually at least.

Well now you're all just making me feel bad for missing Planescape: Torment on GoG's Interplay sale last week (I'm assuming it was part of that).

EDIT: Apparently it wasn't part of that. Is it worth the $10 price tag today?

The story of Bioshock 2 (the good ending, I've never seen the bad ending since after seeing the good one I just can't bring myself to be evil) hit me harder than any other from any game that I've ever played before. For all the flak it seems to cop, I reckon its story was vastly superior than anything the first game had to offer.

It is. It's worth far more than that.

Though if buying it is an issue, you could just PM me an email to send it to, and I'll gift it to you.

No game has hooked me on for the deep story. That is not to say I haven't been amazed and awed by the stories a game can present.

I'm happy to give GoG my money for something I think I'll enjoy -- I'm a big fan of them. Hell I'll shower them with money if they can get a hold of System Shock 2.

I guess I'll have to find out what all this Planscape fuss is about.

The first thing to my mind is not actually a retail in-a-box game, but a mod for Oblivion. "Malevolent," specifically. One of the best stories I've seen and the ending with Bartender actually made me almost cry a bit. Can't think of anything else right now that I'd put as "the best story" or "deepest story".

Alrighty, just thought I'd offer. A couple tips, by the way.

Max wisdom. Go with high int. All else is secondary.

Go to Ragpicker's Square, talk to Mebbeth and pick up the mage class ASAP.

Give it some time. The story picks up slowly.

Who cares when you play a game. Its hard to play every game ever.

Anyways, I love the story of the FEAR series. Its a big part of why I love it. Its all overly complicated and stuff, but I tihnk its interesting.
I wish this was the same for me, but when I started playing F.E.A.R, with very limited experience with horror games, all I could do was run through levels blindly trying to ignore any sort of scary thing. Never did know anything about the story... I got F.E.A.R 3 recently, it's not as scary as previous games so far, but I just don't bother to follow the story because I don't know anything about the previous 2 games.

Though it wasn't always consistent, the KOTOR games have their moments worthy replaying them for. Despite my dislike of her character, Kreia in KOTOR 2 does raise some interesting points, especially when talking about Revan and why he (canonically he's a he ok; personally I played more as female Revans though) became the Sith Lord and that there was more to it than simple desire for power.
The twist in KOTOR 1 blew me away and even though friends had hinted at what it was beforehand, the way it was built up to and then executed really struck me as being really well done. I did actually find myself immersed in the first game's story more, especially towards the end where I find it really difficult to take a break because I want to keep going.

Thanks. I just bought it... I'll download it overnight and give it a go soon.

Fallout 1,2 and New Vegas.

They really do a great job at poking human nature and exposing the horrible things humans are willing to do, pay the price for their deeds, and then go about screwing everything up all over again. They really are a great series of stories that show humanity trying to rebuild society and civilisation and all of the things that factor such as greed, superiority, autocracy, independency, Hegelian Dialectics, imperialism, dictatorships, ideology, corruption, politics, society, survival, religion, redemption, civilisation, "for the greater good" and segregation.
I am currently doing a playthrough of Fallout: New Vegas, and I have to agree with this.

One thing that got my attention was the amount of choice I get in:

I just love the way I can either choose to make New Vegas my own, kill Mr.House, choose which Factions I can have in New Vegas once I get the Platinum Chip back etc.

It just makes me feel like I am in control of something really big, even though I haven't currently done that mission (caught up in loads of side missions) I feel important and powerful :D

Also I like the reputation system in the game, the fact I can choose which different factions I can be allies or enemies with.

I am currently level 16 with 26 hours of gameplay, and I only started the playthrough a few days ago :p

Bioshock. Rapture is pretty deep.
I get it!

Yeah Planescape is in my mind the best story in gaming still. In fact Planescape has one of the best written stories out of all modern mediums. If only HBO or someone could be persuaded to make a high budget epic series out of it then more (non-gaming) people could enjoy it.
