I'm hearing a lot of 'lazy devs' and 'not worth thier time' etc. This begs the question: What the hell did these guys do with the last DECADE that they couldn't come out with a good console version?

This is probably the only game i will ever say this for, but I will not accept any excuses or anything less than the VERY BEST from this game - after a DECADE of development.

It felt like a much ruder Bulletstorm to me. That's not necessarily bad, but judging how much shit the game is getting for the two weapon system, chances are the thing will get patched or something. I highly doubt there's a way to patch something like that though.

If a developer needs to "dumb down" their FPS for consoles they're clearly not very good at making games. Half-Life 2 and FEAR make perfectly good console games with virtually no difference between them and their PC versions.

This is just Triptych Games saying: "Hey gamers, we didn't copy-paste Halo into Duke Nukem because we wanted to. It was those console-tards and their baby's toy controllers!" Once they realized that people are going to be disappointed with this game largely because of that poor design decision.

Well, damn, I hate this community more and more every day.

It looks FINE, want the shrink ray? Pick up the fucking shrink way, its there. The only time it'll be a bad choice to do so is on hard, which is a good thing because hard modes a challenge.

Otherwise, play on easy and go to town on the enemies like the duke's known for.

Edit:

Also, Gearbox hate? Sorry, I must have missed the part where they actually made the game, because if I recall they pieced it together.

Speaking as quite the Halo fan I know I didn't want them to do this. What works for one game doesn't inherently work for others of the same genre, and there are plenty of console games that have plenty of weapons and they work just fine with it. Heck, Duke Nukem 3D is on Xbox Live Arcade, didn't see a problem there did they?

It just really pisses mw off that console gamers get blamed for a change they didn't ask for, and then all the PC gamers sneer about it.

Yeah, not forking out for a Call of Duty clone. Apparently we waited over a decade for the physical embodiment of all that's wrong with today's first person shooters. But thanks for the thread, and the linked video a little further in. Saved me some money I would have otherwise wasted on this crap.

Serious Sam HD did this good on consoles - bumper buttons are used for next/previous weapon so the system was easily transferred from PC version. It's actually one of the rare games that could be enjoyed both on PC and console, can't understand why more developers don't use this method - next/prev for gamepad and scroll wheel + numbers for PC, it's a win-win situation.
This.

Even on the PC, when I played SSHD, I only used the scroll wheel. It's outright dumb and suicidal to do so when going from slot 6 to slot 3 in the middle of battle, because of the delay, and I still did it and survived and could play properly and ... and everything was still right in the world, basically.

And for those who don't know, Serious Sam doesn't just have 8 weapons, or 10, but 15 - 2 guns per number slot, plus a lone Bomb. The Half-Lifes also did the multiple guns per slot thing.

To reiterate: Scrolling through 15 weapons works perfectly fine. DNF couldn't even give you 3.

They dumbed the amount of weapons down because of a lack of buttons on controllers and while they where alright with doing tweaks for the consoles they where to lazy to fix DNF for keyboard and mouse and allow the cut features on pc.
Here is a little thing you obviously don't know. "They were too lazy to allow PC players to have more than 2 weapons". Yeah, and you would be too. It isn't just changing a number, you have to change to code, and change the entire game on top of that. With only 2 weapons, certain weapons need to be in certain areas (rocket launcher where you need it, sniper in an area, etc.), while with games where you get to keep every gun, they are placed in certain areas down the line (low powered first, sniper when you need it, more power weapons last). I don't blame them at all for not completely redesigning the game for PC, because I don't know one company that would.

Nope, do not avoid! Im sorry but is this really surprising to anyone? A developer using the cheapest way out instead of actually taking their time to make proper use of the advantages of certain platforms (in this case, the PC).
Its fucking Duke Nukem Forever, dude. If there's one thing they've taken, its time.
No, by the looks of it they're taking the piss as well.

Wait, what?... They dumbed down the amount of weapons due to controller restraints? I remember Resistance: Fall of Man have a weapon wheel that worked quite well. As for the mighty boot... I'm assuming thats some kind of kick?. Like the one in Bulletstorm maybe?.... What the hell..

The big boot was the mightiest melee attack ever, it could take down giants, also it was SO awesome, that The Duke (also the only man who could perform such an awesome attack) could also move and kick at the SAME TIME!

Also this is fucking retarded, the real reason they dumbed it down? Cause gamers these days don't know what's good anymore, they all want their games to be 'realistic" fucking ass fucks.

This is a load of crap. Console games are capable of having more than 2 weapons at a time. They just want to jump on the console tards bandwagon so they don't have to admit that they did a lazy job and couldn't give a shit.

/rant
I was thinking that when I saw the news. I don't know, but since they announced that development of Duke Nukem forever was continuing, there seems to be a big rush to get it finished, and they just can't be bothered.

This. The FPS games went downhill after Halo became such a massive cash cow and developers realized they could make a lot more money pandering to the much larger demographic who preferred dumbed down "realism" games over games that had actual fun in them.

For fuck sake people! You don't complain when Modern Warfare, Crysis 2, Black Ops, Halo or the vast majority of other FPS only allow you to carry 2 weapons, yet since its Duke Nukem and everybody seems to hate it (even those who haven't played the demo yet, you all jump on the bitching bandwagon...
Brings my piss to a boil

Why don't you, ya know, PLAY THE GAME BEFORE BITCHING ABOUT IT!

Also, why the hell do these "PC elitists" need to such fucking dicks?! I know its only a small minority of them but still...

OT: Only having 2 weapons makes no difference to me as long as the game plays well :)
The difference is that the original duke nukem allowed you to carry more then 2 weapons. Call of Duty, Halo, etc started with only 2 weapons. Plus in addition they also removed the mighty boot attack with weapon butting.

Because all the people pining over DNF want a classic FPS, not CoD. And the demo was total shit - whoever's shouldering financial responsibility for it should be crying that this isn't the only thing seen as a problem.
I agree with Woodsey here, and this is coming from a COD fan.

There was nothing stopping Duke from having loads of weapons on console. Mafia 2, Bioshock, RDR, Half Life 2 - they all did it perfectly well.

I used to play Duke Nukem 3D back when it came out, and this game (at least from what I've seen in the demo) captures none of the sense of fun, craziness or pace that the old gameplay had.

Duke dying in 2-3 hits was a poor decision too. So much for being an unstoppable badass.

I had that, and it was set to easy by default. And he gets pissed on one can of beer.

Yeah, yesterday I was at my local gamestore and I was talking to a guy who worked there, and I told him all about it. He was saying that gamers want their games to be more realistic and that all games they can only carry two weapons (well most anyways) nowadays.

I said "But it's The Duke!!" Also you wanna be more realistic? If games were more realistic you'd STILL be able to carry a butt load of weapons. I've seen videos of people carry large amounts of weapons on them. Ranging from small to large.

Yeah, I had it set on Normal and holy fuck!

I have Duke 3D on my Xbox and DNF is a far cry from what it use to be.
