I was staying at a friends house for tea and stuff, and before it was time to eat, i thought i'd better do my injection stuff, and then realised, i'd left it at home, which then resulted in me running home, grabbing it, running back, and by the time i was back, it was cold and i was getting dirty looks from everyone, including the dog.
Done that many times myself...

The worst is when you go to a restaurant and ask for a diet coke/sprite etc and they give you a regular anyway because they think/assume you are just being difficult and cant tell. Usually putting them on the spot gets them to stop.
Yeah...I usually get at least a second glance from the waiter when I order a diet, because I'm pretty lanky, so they don't know what the hell is up.

Oh! Funny story! In 8th grade, I'd had my pump for a year or two, and one of my classes had a substitute. So, in the middle of class, I made my pump do a series of beeps. The teacher asked me to "give her the pager." Of course, I told her it wasn't a pager. She then told me to give it to her anyway. I said it was attached to me. She thought I was joking, so when she came over to take it, I brought it up in front of her, and when she realized what it was, the look on her face was priceless.

One slight hassle that results from wearing a pump? I am stopped every time at the airport because the detector goes off, they scan me, and find something at my hip. Usually takes about ten minutes more than it has to.

Gah, i want a pump xD
If you do get one, I highly suggest going with a Medtronic. They're not as "pretty" as the Animas and whatnot, but it's much more functional. I love the paradigm 722.

I went to a friend's birthday once we were just sat about chilling when her mum came in and did the whole birthday cake thing then dissapeared, came back with some for everyone...everyone except me, what was I given? A fucking apple! Plenty of odd looks and sniggers from my friends until the mum said "well arent you diabetic so you cant eat any sugar?" I was currently sat chomping my way through a pack of Haribo...its amazing what people think diabeties involves.

I never got a slice of cake either /sad face

Well I've learned a lot about diabetes from reading this thread. I always assumed it was just something about not having enough sugar in your system or something. Well its always good to now more about things.

My mother gone blind in one eye and lost some of her toes because she neglected her diabetes. My uncle has it too. I guess theres a chance I might get it too if you look at my family, but I must add that both of them consumed at least one bottle of coke every day. Thats pretty much asking for it.

Sarcasm is hard on the interwebs. But yes, it does suck some times. Just stay on top of your shit; it's totally manageable.

Going off that, are any of you annoyed by that old guy in the Liberty health care commercials? It bugs the hell out of me when he pronounces it that way. I know he's old, but I just want to smack him every time I hear his voice!
