I can defend you on the internet no longer, America. Ugh. I'll just go play Civ V as the US and create a version that makes sense.

The dictionary has been banned from libraries & schools in the US before.

The idiot Palin (she who thinks that being able to see across several miles of ocean grants diplomatic & political experience, & who claims to read newspapers but doesn't know which ones), when she was mayor of Wasilla, was instrumental in banning it from Anchorage in '87. In a truly Orwellian nightmare of 1984's heinous Big Brother style, she said it 'contains objectionable words'. Previously in '78 it was banned from Missouri libraries for similar reasons.

For those unfamiliar with 1984: an ultra-fascist dictatorship, upheld by the brutal & psychotic 'Thought Police', imprisons & enslaves not just the bodies but also the minds of the populace by removing words from the language, thus reducing people's ability to even contemplate thinking for themselves.

This is the English dictionary, the single most essential text book for any English speaking student or academic. But then just a few weeks ago weren't they having book burnings in the US? Ironically Fahrenheit 451, a book which criticizes censorship & embodies it as legally compulsory book burning, was also banned until only twelve years ago.

Just two sources of many: http://www.banned-books.com/bblista-i.html

http://www.seferm.com/services/newsworld/directorynews/unbelievable-10-top-books-banned-that%27ll-shock-you.html

More & more frequently the world looks at the US, the so-called 'Land of the Free', & weeps.

That could be a good with the re-legalization of same sex marriage and possibly marijuana. Though, everyone, and I mean everyone, hates the California public school system. With the exception of the officials.
My own state's public school system is broken beyond repair.
If your school isn't bankrupted by senior administrative payrolls, then it's sprinting there.
I've literally heard about (and seen) successful school systems getting sucked dry by greedy Boards and Superintendents (of Directors) while they pay their faculty peanuts.

And then they turn back to the state asking for a bigger budget...sigh.

That's run of the mill for mine, cut after school programs while increasing their paychecks.

All in favor of sinking California into the ocean? *raises hand*

Or we could just wait and see if marijuana gets legalized and wait for the entire state to mellow out...I still think sinking sounds more fun though.

Why must my countrymen repeatedly embarrass me... If I were anywhere near southern California (thank god I'm not) I'd have to go force some sense into some people.

Well, you have to get kids interested in learning somehow...
Maybe if the parents had told them what it was, they wouldn't have looked it up.
And further more, how did they find out the kid looked it up???

Okay, if people can find the DICTIONARY offensive, then they can find anything offensive.

Except the Bible. Because there is nothing in there that could possibly cause any offense. [/sarcasm]

what next? Ban pencils because they are made from chopped down tree's or kids drawing perverted pictures with them? I swear, some times, people should have practiced safe sex to save us from their child's incredible ignorance.

Yes, loads of it. For a start in Genesis Lot's daughters get him drunk & systematically & repeatedly rape him in a cave, but that's a bit off topic. I don't think anyone genuinely takes that Arab Bronze Age superstition seriously any more, they just say they do (Emperor's New Clothes).

EDIT: There's also repeated racism, child abuse, more rape, slavery, genocide - all condoned & even encouraged.

I don't even know how to respond to this.
You don't have to say/type anything. That's the beauty of the facepalm.

OT: Kids are trying to search for "oral sex" in dictionaries, so they think dictionaries are the problem here? You could do the same on the internet and nobody bans the internet. Plus, it'll probably be more informative.

Actually OT: RL Trolls. Mainly the ones concerning video games. Its ridiculous how arrogant these people are when games like Shadow of the Colossus, Bioshock, Fallout 3, and Half Life 2 exist. You can take drugs in Fallout 3 and Bioshock, but it has negative effects on your character and you're definitely not encouraged to do so. Okay, maybe Atlas, but he's really... you know...

That the American Legal system lets a robber sue the owners of a home if they slip and fall and hurt themselves, because there is no railing (they can sue enough to get bail, and yes, it can happen)
