Eh, it's just hard to tell. I'm currently in a game of Left 4 Dead 2 where everyone in the server is a guy and I know this because everyone is using their mics. Sure, most of the time I don't know but the likelyhood of everyone who doesn't use a mic is a girl is slim as well...PureIrony said:

I'm sure all the good female gamers on multi player games like Halo 3 and Modern Warfare 2 are just not speaking up because either they don't feel like plugging in a mic, or because they know they will be harassed by the masses of idiots asking if they are hot or the like.
I think that the whole issue of guys freaking out over a woman kicking their ass in a game is immature and sexist... It just reinforces the stereotype of gamers being kids.
I've yet to meet a good female gamer, or come up against one in an online game. However if I did, I'd imagine I'd take my ass kicking with a grain of salt and a hearty GG

me..... i always have the highest accuracy in l4d2 and i kick ass in TF2 and i can beat bioshock on hard mode without dying. also most of my friends in steam are other girl gamers.
when i play TF2 in a pub server, everyone thinks im a 12 year old boy and tells me to stfu, however when i tell them im a girl, they either say: "theres no girls on the internet!" or "your lying you little fag!". but once in a while i find someone who believes me and tries to hit on me... oh well. bah, im rambling.

That's EPIC! I too have heard the phrase "There's no girls on the internet." It used to make me mad... but I got to a point where I just didn't care what all the guys were saying. The only game I've ever actually seen (well, heard) girls on was L4D 1 and 2. I'm sure they are on others but I never bothered to plug the mic in on MW and no one talks on BC2 which sums up my multiplayer gaming.
Of the girls I teamed with on L4D however, some of them were incredibly good. I wouldn't say I'm a great L4D player, but certainly above average, and together with these two girls we kicked arse in every game we played that night.

Edit: Oh, have we met? Uhm, yes actually I used to hang out with a very good CSS player who was also quite attractive.
Well, not to genre lock females but I used to date this chick who was a beast at puzzle games or games that didn't necessarily requires the fastest reflexes but might take a bit more though, turn based strategies too and RPG's. Shooters she was okay but not great. RTS she did good but sometimes didn't have the micro (but do any women have micro? AM I RITE PPL?!) to control units effectively. Passable at fighters. All in all a good gamer but better at like, strategy and puzzle games and stuff.
I know one girl who plays video games (regularly) but I'm not sure how good she is. She does know a hell of a lot more about them then me though.
I know one that can kick anyone's ass at Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising and is a goodshot in MW2

yes. theres this regular on AO egypt called OMGITSAGIRL and shes as good as if not better than me. and I like to think of myself as being a top player (at least in pubs).
