Hence why I would keep the avatar I now have, despite some people attempting to use it against me in arguments (though at that point, they've already lost, since they are resorting to insulting my taste in music.)
Then again your taste in music is... well... undesirable.

Im not saying you shouldn't like it, im just saying from a musical standpoint its pretty lacklustre stuff.
Do you even know what his musical taste is, or are you just trying to start a flame war, because I guarantee you will lose.
If you'd bothered to read his comment he said that his avatar related to his taste in music i.e. frontman of Greenday, Greenday being the worst ever band ever.

Lol, I'm so paranoid about who takes a peek at the contents of my iPod. My tastes are all over the place though. I'll go from Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, to Streetlight Manifesto, to Matchbox 20 (something like that). Everything's from left field in comparison to everything else. Music theory does make it hard to swallow some of the most recent pop/top 40 stuff lately. It all kinda sounds the same. :(

eh...I need new music though. It all gets boring when you can instantly recognize everything within a second. About the only genre's I'm adverse to are heavy metal and rap, so any recommendations?
Your only gonna get stuff that will satisfy from a theory standpoint if you listen to metal or jazz.

I listen to what I listen to, if someone has a problem with it they can leave the room. Same with the games I play. Now, if my mom is in the car, I won't listen to headache inducing music (rock, metal etc) I'll put on stuff that she can tolerate otherwise I don't care. I just don't like hearing her ***** about how she has a headache.

i dont care at all. hence i play my drum and bass very loud, so you can hear it outside my house ( although not the living room, which is odd, because its only just upstairs, but if they could hear it in the living room that would be rude to my parents).
also i avoid having my head phones so loud everyone can hear what im listening too.
and when i get a car i will play loud music too, but i wont open the window and act like a twat making everyone listen to what i am

I do but you have to be on the drivers side in the car next to me at a stop to hear my music. and have your windows down as well. I just like driving with my arm out the window....its more comfortable for me.

Nope. I'm proud of being being the guy who doesn't like any music and never listens to it on his own time. In fact, I love telling people this just to see their reactions of confusion, disbelief, and sometimes outright horror. It's all rather amusing.

Although he was right when he said you were trying to start a flame war. Different people have different tastes, learn to respect that instead of bashing them.

No i wasn't trying to start a flamewar, in fact i was very polite in my criticism, i was just pointing out my opinion in the matter.

Besides, its helpful to talk about stuff because you learn from it, if no one ever challenged anyone elses opinions we would live in a very boring world, well, more boring.

Id add Classical aswell, can't forget that, but Metal(real metal, not A7X/Slipknot bullshit) and Jazz are without a doubt the most technical music genres there are. The amount of crossover between Death Metal drummers and Jazz drummers is suprisingly large.

I do not get mad if someone doesn't like my music but I will be disappointed because I could spend hours with them talking about the music and the groups :D

(needless to say nobody I know likes my music :C)

Stuff I quite like is:
Daft Punk
Horrorcore
Red Hot Chilipeppers
Yellowcard
Reel Big Fish
Powerman 5000
We have fairly similar tastes, and yeah, I really don't care that people don't like what I listen to, doesn't make me enjoy it any less.

I'm starting to think that on a subconcious level my taste in music changes to annoy and alienate the people around me, I've always had really different taste to everyone I know, I was into indie when my friends were into pop, dance when they were into metal and hip hop when they were into indie, since all my friends started worshiping Eminem and having a go at me for liking hardcore hip hop I've been listening to pretty much nothing but. I don't deliberately do it because that would be pathetic, but I think I get some pleasure just from being different to people.

That is REALLY uncool, I like Green Day. What dicks.

I mix and match all my music so that people can love it and hate it... AT THE SAME TIME!

Ew, Slipknot? Oh sweet, Metallica! Meh, Foo Fighters.

could care less what anyone thought of anything... but to be fair I outgrew that " caring what others think" phase quite along time ago, having a family, and a spouse and all that killed that even more.

just be careful if you stumble on to bebop jazz, theory will not help you there, that kind of jazz was made in the twilight zone. horrible stuff in my opinion. also anything labelled with avant garde should be listened to with caution(the exception being Celtic Frost), especially if you are classically trained.

try listening to "rondo alla turca" by mozart, although the jazz version is better "blue rondo a la turk"

and on topic yes i turn the volume down as not to scare anyone with my hate filled music. however i have noticed a tendency of me to actually switch, to the most brutal songs i have on my mp3 play, as soon as company is near. for example if i am listening to classical stuff like seiji or beethoven, i rush to switch to something like bloodbath or naglfar. odd really.

edit- free jazz should be placed right next to bebop if not higher up on the "help. theory failing. what the fuck is this?" list

Nope, I know I'm the only person of my friends who loves classical and listens to nothing else, so it doesn't worry me in the slightest. I love it as an artistic medium and thats all matters in this case.

This year at school, I have blasted a huge variety of stuff, ranging from Pixies to Between the Buried and Me to Daft Punk to Vampire Weekend, sometimes all within the same day. I don't give a damn what people think.

At home, however, I tend to use a lower level of volume and the same bands, except I'll make a more or less clean playlist. F-bombs don't sit well with moms. (At least not my moms.)
