I don't really care most times, but sometimes when playing my music on shuffle in the car via an MP3 player hookup, Caramelldansen (which is somehow STILL on my MP3 player) comes on and I can't help but feel judged. :p

If someone tells me that Seasick Steve sucks balls and I should listen to something else I'm not going to do it.

But I will no longer play Seasick Steve around them. After a brief 'trying to change their mind' phase.

I used to do the same, but I've grown out of the habit. I do spare my sister by changing some of the songs if I'm listening to music loud, simply because I don't want to listen to her whine about how much she hates Nightwish.

But apart from that, I love my music. The cheesy 80s pop, the over-the-top squeaky-man power metal, the growly death metal.. It's all good.

..Now, to work on other self-conscious problems..

Me and my housemate have pretty different musical tastes, I like metal and punk etc whereas he likes more classic rock, blues and jazz. We both have a middle ground on music we like in each other's collections. Although I think I can listen to his stuff a lot easier than he can listen to mine as it's also the music my parents like and I grew up listening to it, (Dylan, Tom Petty, AC/DC etc.)

We pretty much have a "if someone is working keep it down, if not blast away" rule and thats it.

If we are in a car with friends and hook ipods into the radio we do tend to play music everyone will enjoy more than just ourself as there is nothing worse being stuck in a car listening to music you hate.

No, I like my music, and won't listen to other peoples stuff just because mine is seen as weird. I mean, why would you change your music for others? It's reasonable if it's someone I don't dislike and it makes them uncomfortable, but other than that I just listen to what I want and everyone else around me can go to hell.

sometimes, sometimes not. What I mean is when I'm home I'll listen to anything I like and loud if I feel like it (sometimes quite is good too) while driving it's a different story. I will drive down the road and blast sunshine and lolly pops but that doesn't happen often. While driving it's usually something loud and fast pace to begin with. that's all based on my mood. I tend to listen to music most don't in my city. so alternative type stuff, video game music. J-rock. everyone else listens to rap and their blare. I get looks because I'm a black guy not listening to rap. so the short answer to your question is. I don't really care what people think of my taste of music. I'm not promoting shooting people. demeaning women or anything of a sort just to be cool.

Well, my mom got me started on hard rock and metal, and my stepdad listens to about the same. The only people I can think of that actually ***** at me for my music are my sister Cassie and my aunt Jamie, but considering the fact that the former is in love with all that Disney music and country, and the latter is a controlling crazed Christian girl who won't let her children have any freedom, I tend to ignore their opinions on my "devil music."

Cassie actually came up to me and forced me to listen to Miley Cyrus's new country song...I didn't like her pop music, so why on god's green Earth would I listen to her country crap?!
She actually had the nerve to reach over and turn down the tv that I was playing Resident Evil 4 on. Then when I finally told her to screw off she came back with "Nobody likes your crappy music!" I listen on what music I was raised on. My mom would turn on the classic rock stations and quiz me on who the song was by. Cassie is the only person in my house that listens to Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, Britney Spears, etc. In short, nobody listens to her crappy music.

Damn....Did I write all of that?

Most definitely not, if I did I would not currently have a song from Britney Spears or all three albums of Avril on my Media Player. Actually I make a point of announcing I like songs like that in addition to say Disturbed, Nickelback, Three Days Grace, Nightwish and etc. just because the react is usually amusing.

Anyhow my taste is so ridiculously varied, I am bound to cross someone. Seriously I listen to everything from Avril as I mentioned to Disturbed, to Eminem, to 50, to Taylor Swift, Celine Dion or Il Divo (Fantastic talent by the way)

That said, I will change the song/artist if people really dislike it. No reason to be an ass and force them to listen to my music.

Only when I'm driving. Being as I'm the only one amongst my friends who both owns a car and has a driver's license, everyone makes me the designated driver. Now, I like to listen to music while I drive, and even have a "Driving Music" playlist on my mp3 player.

So inevitably, these people will be forced to bear with what I listen to, and I'll be forced to listen as a couple of Japanophiles complain that Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run" or Metallica's "Enter Sandman" is not the next hit by whatever j-pop group they're into.

I think, deep down, I kind of do. It's what usually compels me to not mention that I still like some of N'Sync and Linkin Park's stuff, that Britney Spears has done exactly four songs that I like (Baby One More Time, Stronger, Toxic, and Circus), that I really like the songs "Welcome to the Black Parade" by MCR (I had to defend myself in karaoke over this one) and "Bring Me to Life" by Evanescence. I absolutely refuse to disavow my listening to the Backstreet Boys, though.

Also, my tastes run predominantly to J-pop/rock (Ayumi Hamasaki and Hikaru Utada forever), power metal (Dragonforce and Blind Guardian forever), and video game soundtracks (Nobuo Uematsu and Daisuke Ishiwatari forever), so it's probably lucky I don't have many people to listen to my music in the first place.

Lol, I'm so paranoid about who takes a peek at the contents of my iPod. My tastes are all over the place though. I'll go from Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, to Streetlight Manifesto, to Matchbox 20 (something like that). Everything's from left field in comparison to everything else. Music theory does make it hard to swallow some of the most recent pop/top 40 stuff lately. It all kinda sounds the same. :(
Stravinsky rocks, by the way...and I'm not just saying that because it was my favorite music from Fantasia. Might I recommend some of Gustav Holtz's "The Planets?"
>_< I've played Jupiter and Mars. The latter was a bad experience. A clarinetist cannot staccato stuff at 160 like my director seemed to so strongly believe.

As a fellow clarinetist, I feel your pain. My mouth hurts just thinking about that... o_O

If I did, I wouldn't listen to it.

My friend asked why I have Alvin and the chipmunks and Arch Enemy on my iPod...

I've just added some more Bowie and Scatman John.

I prefer it if others like my music, it makes for good conversation. But no, not really, if someone doesn't like my music then why should I care?

I tend to avoid music with vocals that could be found obnoxious when my parents are in the vicinity.
But then again, I mostly listen to post-rock nowadays..

Personally, I listen to VERY heavy metal:
Into the Moat
Between the Buried and Me
Suicide Silence
War From A Harlots Mouth
Impending Doom
ABACABB

I don't really care who hears. I have had some people give me looks when I'm sitting next to them with one of those bands at full volume in my green minivan. (Yes. I am proud of it.) My current girlfriend has been the first one who has agreed with me, music-wise, so it's working out.

To the point, no. I do not.

I don't care what other people thing of my music, but if I've black metal or something extreme on I'd switch to something else like REM if one of my family or friends that don't like metal come in. It's not that I don't want them to listen, it's that I know they don't want to listen, and I'm not going to force them.
