Mainland Europe? No, it is an island in it's own right.

A part of Europe in general? Yes, technically we Brits (which also includes the Irish and Scots) can claim to be 'sexy Europeans' (because we happen to be in Europe).

What other continent would we belong to?
How exactly are the Irish "Brits." Some may consider theselves Brtish up North, but none of the rest of the island do.

OT.

Yes, it is part of Europe.

I dunno. I have had English friends that were okay with being considered European and then one in particular who vehemently objected to being referred to as European.

I'm taking French in college and my professor just refers to that territory as a part of Europe because it's generally understand that even though it's Europe, many different people/languages/cultures and countries make it up.

Fix'd.

As said before, Britain techically is part of the EU, but no one considers themselves European.
However, Scotland and Wales (and every second tuesday Ireland) are not part of England.

No. Well, if talking about the world then I suppose, but if somebody mentions something happened somewhere In Europe I don't imagine it happening in Britain. But that's only cause I'm from England so we would say England if it happened here, I guess

Geographically - Yes. Its the closest continent to britain so...yea
Politically - Yes. Member of the EU, simple as that.
Econimcally - Yes. FTSE is Europe's main stock exchange and Britain is tied to many EU trade treaties
Socialy - Umm, nope. I've never met anyone in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland that has said "I'm European". Same goes for me, I've never said I'm European, I'm always Scottish or British. But I still support Britain being in the EU to a reasonable degree

So 3 out of 4 aint bad

Of course it is a part of Europe, it's just not part of the mainland of Europe. It's kind of like calling Hawaii not part of the US because it sits all there by itself in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The UK belongs to the continent of Europe, it's quite simple really.

Only in the way that Hawaii and Alaska are "part" of the United States (no offense to any Hawaiians and Alaskans that read this). I don't think of people from the UK as "Europeans", they're Scots, Welsh, Irish or bluidy sassenach English (sorry I was born in Scotland and couldn't resist ;-)).

Did you hear about the Englishman with the inferiority complex?

He thought he was the same as everybody else.

We are a part of Europe, although a lot of people like to pretend we're not for a variety of ridiculous reasons.

Yes, of course. Why wouldn't it be? It also appears a lot more 'European' to me than, say, Russia, Turkey or Greenland.

I don't really consider the whole UK a part of Europe, just like I don't really consider Central America part of North America...

Only geographically, politically and cultural wise we want nothing to do with those odd food eating people.

OT: yes, in my Canadian eye's Britin though being my countrie's mother is still part of the old continent: Europe
