I feel worse about killing NPCs in Oblivion or Morrowind. Which is to say not much at all.

Never once in my life have I felt bad about killing somebody in a game. Ever. Online? Nope. Single player? Nope. Heart wrenching moment where you have to kill a 'friend' to your character? Nope.

So... no, never.

In gaming as in war, the only kills to regret are the accidental friendly fire kills.
Basically the same here.
Other than that its no mercy from me, regardless of skill level. That is because called 'tough love' (without the love part) and the only way they can get better is to learn the strategies and tactics of better players and apply them to their own play style while fine tuning their reflexes for FPS's. It's basically how I learned, i kept getting snapped until i made my own style and 'matured'. (when i mean mature, i mean taking my time to get each kill, not charging for each one)
perfect answer. my words exactly. How do you get better if its not an all out fight each time. like Halo (books my friends) the OTHER spartans adapt to their surroundings etc. You get better learning patterns and such and eventually counter and use yourself.

Yes and No...

I don't feel bad for killing a pixel based life form created for the sole purpose of being killed... that would just be silly now. BUT! Well I do feel bad when I get an 'un-sportsmanlike' like kill. Normally this is a AFK person, or the likes, but would include sawn camping or other such methods designed only to jack up some pointless statistic regardless of if it is 'fair.'

For this reason I don't do such, and get more frustrated when idiots out there do!

PS: I offer surrender to any enemy I come across during 'humiliation' periods in TF2. I have collected a few slaves this way, no longer do I have to carry my tool box around or set up over the top machinery to cook my stakes on the barbee.

Sometimes...on rare occasions if the guy or the other team gets slapped over and over and over again. But it's very hard to feel bad for a player in a deathmatch because he's just out to get you anyway, you can't even hear or see the enemy players. This makes them really distant, because the only way to communicate is to shoot the other player in the head.

Of course I might feel sorry if our team just sweeps over the enemy. But it's just a game really, so what if he loses? I was better, he lost. It's his choice how he deals with the loss.

But it depends on the person too. If he's a reasonable man who's willing to accept the fact that sometimes, you just lose. Instead if they're just arrogant kids who've got too much time on their hands to get mad over a loss in some game, and no matter how many times they get "killed" they just wont learn.

Then I might even enjoy it.

To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

Well, definitely not in first-person shooters.

But back when I played WoW, I came across this level 5 questing in the Undead starting area (I was on my Alliance Rogue character), minding his own business, inexplicably flagged for PvP. So I killed him. Then later I saw him again, still just questing and minding his own business. So I killed him again.

Then later I saw him talking to this level 60 rogue who promptly disappeared. So I killed the level 5 and was promptly attacked by the level 60 Horde. As we were fighting, the level 5 respawned and started helping the Horde guy out. And then I killed the level 60. And then the level 5 ran away, so I chased him down and killed him.

I felt pretty bad after that.
Haha, thats totally evil!

The only time i feel bad in online FPS, is when you are playing against just one or two opponents who are far below your skill level. Used to happen every now and again when i played ut99 insta, would be on a quiet server and would be 1v1, the other person wasnt very good, score was something like 20-2 to me. And i only felt bad because the chances of it being enjoyable for the other person was very slim, and games are supposed to be fun after all!
But then i remember that the best way to improve at a competitive game is to play against people far more skilled then yourself, and i always tried to keep it friendly by chatting to them and giving them tips and stuff.

No, I click a button, causing my collection of ones and zeroes to launch some ones-and-zeroes projectile at some other collection of ones and zeroes. Fives seconds later the cicle is renewed when he respawns with a fresh collection. Rince and repeat.

Thank you. Conan had it right on all accounts.

Sometimes in World of Warcraft (which I dont play anymore) I would feel really bad for killing people. I'd be questing in an area and someone who is no match for me sees me, and for some reason they think that they have to attack me. I can't just let them kill me so I thrash them, but I try to use emotes to let them know I don't want to. Then they respawn and I'm like /no and stuff but they keep doing it!

I can't stand stupid people like that. I'm not trying to kill you I'm just doing my thing, stop killing yourself on my swords... thanks

Like man ypeople here I may have felt bad if I killed a person in single player games but in multiplayer no. I despise most online players I meet and it's all to delicious to hear them ***** when I kill them.

If they are a level 1 newbie in COD then yeah, but at least by watching your killcam you'll be teaching them a trick or two.
Real men play Hardcore difficulty. Killcams are for pussies.
I prefer to assert my masculinity with my missus rather than in an online digital sausage-fest, thank you very much.

i've never felt bad but i've always had an odd thought

imagine your a snipe and you just killed someone, you feel nothing but "hey i got a kill."

now imagine it from the other's perspective "ok i'm close to the objective and i barely just made it out of a fire fight so now all i have to do is" *pop*

it's like i'm taking away someone elses life or chance to play (for only a moment, but still)

i feel nothing since it happens all to often since it's a game and that's what you have to do.

I feel bad if there is a tremendous difference in skill level. Having once been the noob on the receiving end of a one sided beat down, I sympathise with the poor fools who have a 1:5 kill to death ratio. If it is a quiet server I try to give them advice and a moving target to enhance their skill, and hopefully one day make them a worthy opponent.
