Patriotism is love of and devotion to one's country. Not wanting to win a completely banal competition.
But what kind of patriot doesn't even want his country to win a banal competition? Eh? I ask you that!
I'm just bitter because Wales didn't even get through the qualifiers. I'm not entirely sure they bothered to enter in the first place.

The only time I'll watch soccer is when it's on a Spanish language channel where they yell: GOOOOOAAAAALLL!!! Other wise I can't stand it.

I don't understand the appeal of watching other people play a game. I like soccer, it's fun, and i was good at it before i became super out of shape, but i don't like watching it.

I can see the appeal to playing sports, but I do not see the appeal to watching people you don't know kick/toss/whatever a ball around for a couple hours and getting so emotionally tied to it. And quite frankly, I don't WANT to understand it.

Haha, there is only one reason I want the USA to win...not that I care if USA wins...but it's fun to watch how upset other countries get when their team loses! LOL

All the hype and commerce surrounding the World Cup made me go from not caring to hating it.

I care to see how my national team fares, when they get eliminated I won't care much for it save for seeing who wins in the end. So yes I'll be watching FOOTBALL this month.

Not one bit. I've always hated football with a passion ever since I was a little kid. I think it might be simply because it's a proper british thing to love and I hate being british and pretty much all things that brits usually like

Better than basketball
It really is.
Seattle is a strange world with very happy people who really enjoy Soccer. I think it is an exciting sport with its constant motion and pure competition. Completely the opposite of basketball's one-man heroism and seemingly scripted performances. The World Cup is also a very beautiful event as a whole with the whole world coming together in S. Africa and all.

Also, isn't it kinda insensitive to completely shut out a whole sport like that? I mean, I know it makes you feel good and that this is the reaction you were looking for. But it is like being proud that you think Citizen Kane is a stupid movie. I mean, that's fine if you hated the movie, I'm just sorry that you have a problem enjoying something that so many other people really enjoy and nothing is going to change the fact that it is acclaimed as AFIs #1 movie in all history.

Now, this isn't a soccer forum or anything so I don't want to sell you something you don't want. I'm just kinda impressed about how much dislike there is for such a great sport from a worldly forum like this one.

Sorry, I guess I'm soapboxing again, Curse of the Escapee, you all know how it is.

EDIT: Also- there is no other sports on right now except Baseball. Which is not even close to as exciting, especially if you are from Seattle...
