The tabletop game is far too expensive for my taste. A friend of mine plays and collects Orks, he split a set of Assault on Black Reach with me 50/50 (letting me keep the Space Marines and the templates and rulebook which he already had).

I'd like to collect some Eldar, but I'm kind of short on money; to me, other board games are better value (for instance, you get 180 awesomely-sculpted miniatures with Starcraft: The Board Game, for 80$) and I'll probably buy the Dawn of War II Gold Edition when I'm feeling the Warhammer 40k itch. I'll remain vaguely interested for awhile so that, later in life, it may become a bit more of a hobby, but I don't see it in my near future.

No, too over the top for my likings.

Dawn of War is really awesome, but the universe itself isn't interesting to me in the least.
Basically this. Everything about it is so deliberately "OMG EPIC" it loses its flair.

When every single thing in the universe is on a massively epic scale, massively epic things have no actual appeal. It's way too over the top.
This is my opinion as well. It's so over the top that I can't take it very seriously.

I used to love the miniatures when I was a kid - painting, building, etc. I used to play the game as well, although I was never as interested in the gaming as I was in the painting and in the universe in general. I used to have a fairly mean Dark Angels army, as well as an Ulthwe Eldar one. I still read the books fairly avidly, especially stuff Dan Abnett has penned.

One of my friends got a tattoo of the Space Wolves logo on his chest last year though, and we rip on him constantly for it.

I like it, I have an almost 2000 point Ork army and I play a few times a year with a friend. I painted them all myself and that brings some more value to them for me.

I love the gaming - I am all about the Wolves - but honestly, I find the expanded Universe just too gloomy to plunge into for long. It is the crapsackiest of all crapsack worlds.
Yes, that's right - 'crapsackiest'. Yeah.

Whilst a state of mild poverty has prevented me purchasing any of the horribly overpriced models, I enjoy it immensely still. Started out with Necrons, now also have Chaos and was building an IG army before I had to nip it all in the bud. The books are fun too, considering I don't read very many other super serious books on war and killing, so they fill that niche for me very handily.

I've loved it since I was about 8, but it's just way too fucking expensive for me anymore.

Well I like Dawn of War, and the story sounds pretty cool, but I have no intention of starting to collect the figurines or anything like that.

I really like the universe its set in and everything about that, Dawn of War is one of my favorite games to this day. I also used to find painting the models very relaxing and satisfying. However, the actual table top game and extortionate prices put me off a lot.

Stick it in a virtual format and its fantastic

I like some of the designs for the creatures, but others are hideous. I personally like the Tau faction, but I don't really want to sink to much money into it and only have one figurine.

I like Warhammer, but I hate the GW and most players. I still paint the odd model and after reading history I am annoyed at how much of it is lifted straight from the classics, but it's drawn together very well. I mostly loved the games like Space Hulk, GorkaMorka and Necromunda. Second Ed. had loads of scope to mash up different games. I remember writing a "Market Day" scenario for Gorka Morka, Where you would go between games and sell all your loot and buy guns and transport. It was great fun. I think Warhammer can be great for people and trigger their creative imaginative side. If they don't take it too seriously

Yes, I do like it. It is a cool universe that I can in no way, ever, afford. PC RTS gaming will have to suffice.

Sorry. Yes warhammer 40k is awesomesauce.

Do I like WH40k? Yes.
Do I like shelling out $100-$200 every time I want to expand my army? No. So I got out of it.

Do i like 40k? That is, indeed, a good question. When i first played Dawn Of War i was like ':-| When i found out the true extent of GRIMDARKNESS (via Internet), i was like >.< And when i've had my first taste of flaming for my disliking of Warhammer - on these very forums, no less - i was like "Oh, fuck off!". And then i've heard about the ridiculous overpriced-ness of the tabletop models.

I have to say, the art style of the Imperial Guard is probably the only good thing about this setting. The overwhelming nastiness starts to turn me off, the legions of insane fanboys finish the job. I've been ninja'd here slightly, so i quote:

Mymla said:
Problem with 40k is that "In the grimdark grimdark of the grimdark grimdark, there is only grimdark" gets really old after a while.
It's gotten so bad, in fact, that i'm writing the alternate setting right now, which will be less about GRIMDARKNESS and more about Crazy Awesomeness. Just because i can. And oh, one last thing: SPESS MEHRENS, WE HEV FEHLED DE EMPRAH!

So no, i don't like Warhammer 40k. Flame on, you Catholic Space Nazis.

Same here.

I kinda started a Dark Angels Army, but lost interest.
Books and fluff are awesome, though.

You could say that I like Warhammer 40,000, and such a statement would certainly be true, if a bit akin to describing the surface of the sun as "pretty hot". Or in other words, "like" is entirely too mild a word. I don't actually play the tabletop game itself, as I'm quite partial to money and have neither the time or inclination to painstakingly assemble and paint things - to my mind that's as alien a concept as watching Home & Garden television for enjoyment purposes.

No, what I love is the lore, thus explaining why I have pretty much every novel the Black Library has ever released (plus various background books and artbooks) and all the Dark Heresy source books, even though I don't actually play the RPG itself. I do however play the Dawn of War games, which are awesome.

Warhammer > Whatever pansy stuff the alternative is. It's probably something like twilight or Justin Bieber or Hannah Montannah anyway.
THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE.

Warhammer. Is. Supreme. No exceptions whatsoever.
And if you think otherwise, we'll be more than happy to sacrifice you to Khorne.
