Do you really think that Battlefield will take DOWN COD?

I've seen the gameplay trailer (looks awesome) I've read about the fully destructible awesomeness in the MP portion but still, I don't think that this game will put COD out of relevance.

Why? Well because Call of Duty is Call of Duty. Didn't Black Ops make a sales record for being the most bought game ever? Out doing the previous record MW2 made? This time Infinity Ward is creating MW3 so people will make the excuse that "Its IW this time around so its bound to be way better than Black Ops." Add to that that the people buying the game (for the most part) are console owners (like myself) who don't search up gaming news on the internet and know about Battlefield and how its COMEPLETELY better than COD.

There are a lot of games that are better than COD as it is and that never stopped it from being a huge success, no matter how much people seem to hate it. KZ series, Battlefield Bad Company, Resistance are all better in my eyes but the sales don't reflect that. What makes this time around any different?

I have noticed that more and more people are getting tired of Call of Duty releases with minor updates. Just give it sometime and Battlefield or even Medal of Honor with catch up.

I think Battlefield may have a chance. People seem to be getting tired of CoD. Well, at least I am.

I was/am also but A LOT of people said this last year. Claiming MW2 was trash because of noobtubes and commando but yet MORE people bought Black Ops than MW2.

I really hope so. I just want to find out what happens to Price and Soap then the game will hopefully just die when people begin to see that CoD is getting worse with each installment.

Take it down to the point where no one plays CoD anymore, impossible. Surpass it in popularity? It could happen, although it doesn't happen overnight, it takes time for a game to lose steam and to lose its fanbase to a competitor.

Granted, I still have hopes that IW doesn't screw up, but knowing what happened with MW2, that doesn't seem to be very likely.

Both MW2 and BlOps were good games, but they were just more of the same. I like Battlefield because, as a new player, it felt fair and balanced. I was taking out the high levels, and once I got to those levels, I was destroyed by the lower levels. I depends more on skill than CoD. (I have only played Bad Company 1&2, so maybe the other Battlefields are differnt--but I hope not!)

If you want it to die, then read what happens on Wikipedia and don't buy in again. I'm surprised by how many people have given your answer (especially for such cardboard characters).

OT: If it means I don't have to listen to the months of hype before the game's release in November, and then the months of shocked moaning about how poorly balanced and buggy it is, then I'd be quite happy for Hello Kitty Island Adventures to take over the game in terms of sales.

No. The only thing that can kill Call of Duty is Activision these days. All of their games die out really quickly because Activision refuses to stop whoring out their titles. People become wise to their plan when they realize they're essentially burning $60 a year.

I don't know how EA does it.

I personally already think Bad Company 2 is miles better than any CoD online.

If it does want to over take it though, they will have to at least increase the console player count in Battlefield 3. 24 for consoles when PC has 64 means very deserted maps if they are not slimmed down.

Nope. The only thing that will eventually take down CoD is CoD itself.

Nothing lasts forever.

I'll enjoy both franchises as long as I can.

Why, yes, they are.

In your eyes.

There are many games 'better' than CoD. There are few games more fun than CoD.

If any games become more succesful than CoD (which will happen, inevitably. It happens to everything), then it won't be Battlefield. Battlefield is more tactical and so it requires a bit more thought to play, which stops it from being the simple joyride that CoD is, and stops it from having such a mass-market appeal.

If Battlefield was going to become as succesful as CoD it would have to simplify itself and become less tactical. To defeat CoD, you must become CoD.

Oh, and in the future, make balanced threads. This makes you sound like a bit of a tool.

I think now that the IW team are gone COD won't be able to hold its own anymore against BF. I mean its just gone completely downhill for me and a lot of other people so I think BF3 will have a chance at least to equal and become as popular as COD. I mean unless MOH suddenly becomes awesome again but we all know that won't happen haha.

I don't remember saying I was going to buy the game.

BF will never surpass CoD in popularity unless Dice decides to chase console gold. In which case, BF will find itself caught in a spiral as it goes down the shitter. The same spiral CoD is caught in after surpassing the early 2000's most hated "herp-derp, frat boy" FPS franchise, Halo.

You do not want that to happen.

I'm getting Battlefield 3 and not MW3. Don't know if that answers your question but I guess i'm tired of the COD franchise spitting in my mouth and asking me why i'm not thanking them.

You implied. If you're not, then fair play.

I wouldn't say Battlefield is better. They're both good at what they do. Battlefield is a multiplayer with a bit more emphasis on teamplay than lonewolfing which in my view makes it neither better nor worse in that regard (Try getting landed in a bad squad and see what I mean). CoD rewards you for doing well but at the same time makes you feel punished for doing bad. It's perhaps the only game that can make you stressed out from going 24-1.

They're two well matched games, unless you want to talk about campaign. Having played Battlefield's campaign I'd like to have it's memory erased from my mind.

Battlefield has little hope of surpassing CoD on sales. It's a good game but they don't have any hope of marketting it to the masses if they try to make it the "anti-conformist" choice which was touted as Battlefield 2's major selling point by some of my friends, and in part, the game itself.
