Do you really think that Battlefield will take DOWN COD?

This time Infinity Ward is creating MW3 so people will make the excuse that "Its IW this time around so its bound to be way better than Black Ops."
Except that Infinity Ward as we knew it (IE the Infinity Ward that created MW and MW2) no longer exists- at least 90% of their staff has left to work for EA under the new name "Respawn Entertainment".

Still, I don't think Battlefield is going to beat COD, because they're two totally different concepts. When I want mindless reflex-based shooting, I play COD. When I want semi-realistic, tactical, thinking shooting, I play Battlefield. Still, I think I'll enjoy BF3 over MW3 at the end of the day. Still buy them both, though.

battlefield started the modern combat phase back in 2005 with its 64 player action where not only did you get tanks and cars, you got friggin jets,
battlefield has always took care of their games, and made damn sure they were worth it.

COD jumped the shark at number 4 (though i will say WAW campaign was amazeing) not only is it pretty much cut and paste, the people behind it dont even care, and in activision's case...they're scum.
not to mention a game that comes out every year loses it luster

No...

Battlefield is NOT the arcade shooter that attracts the 12 year olds. CoD will be biggest forever because of that.
Besides, i think that Battlefield is not exactly known for it's simplicity and casual-gaming aspects so therefore it scares off alot of the people playing CoD.

The game will be a success. It will be bigger than previous BF games. It will NOT surpass CoD in popularity but in the quality and satisfaction of the people playing the game. (if you get my point :p)

Edit: Oh yeah, hopes are up for Respawn Entertainment working with EA to make "That new IP" that will replace CoD. For good or evil we don't know :3

Battlefield won't, Medal of Honor maybe. Battlefield is very team oriented and most people I know won't play it unless you have a squad of 3 or more. Although I love that game aspect, a blockbuster that does not make. The games that sell the most are usually games you can play with friends, but is not required nor is it the focus *save for SSBB but thats aimed at a different market then a FPS*. CoD attacks a very simple audience, multiplayer does not aim to make players think, and thats not a bad thing as I often prefer mindless gameplay and more people will buy that.

Quick question: How much has the CoD series actually developed since the first Modern Warfare, multiplayer wise? (besidse the shamefully short and bland single-player campaigns)

I've played the single-player parts on MW2 and BlackOps, but never got into the multiplayer after CoD 4

im sick of CoD.
i want a new battlefield with 64 players or more.
with flags to spawn at instead of random spawning on a map.
Vehicles to use.
I think battlefield 2 and 2142 were some of the best times i had in a FPS, the only exception to that was when they released a game breaking patch that caused you to spend more time looking a load bars than you did playing.
I liked cod but i would love to have a game with bigger maps and more players per side. So your not just killing the same 3-6 people over and over.

In terms of sales I highly doubt Battlefield will ever surpass COD. That said Battlefield has always been better in the multiplayer department.

I think Call of Duty has ran out of steam. Battlefield is almost definately the new time-stealing FPS.

That is until Project Titan is finished. Blizzard have already annihilated the RPG market and are now moving onto FPS - even if it is PC only (I hope)

Nope. Just like I don't think SW: TOR will take down WoW. Regardless I'm gonna play both TOR and Battlefield and enjoy what I consider to be far better games with millions of other people who think the same :)

BF3 is already been confirment not support DX9 and is being developed on DX10/11 not sure 10 or 11, but either way I'm pretty sure both PS3 and Xbox both only support DX9.
The PS3 uses OpenGL instead of DirectX, so theoretically it could be modified to support DirectX10/11 features. You are right about the Xbox though, it uses a modified version of DirectX 9.0c

So it will be a watered down PC version for Console players
This is how it should always be, instead of the other way around.

It's an MMOFPS. Which in my opinion isn't going to work really well. We'll just have to wait and see.

Yeah I know it's an MMO, but Blizzard seem to have an ability to make anything awesome. Hell I don't play many FPS (Only WarRock, Crossfire and that luddite game ET:QW), but even I'm looking forward to it!

No, the gameplay of both CoD and BF is too different. It's like comparing Halo and CoD. Fanboys will scream all day long about which is better, truth is they both have their merrits, they're just different.

I'm so glad that Battlefield isn't as popular, I'd hate to have thoseCOD morons in Battlefield. I'd never revive another person again...

It certainly could.

I think I am like a lot of gamers when it comes to CoDs, Halos, and Battlefield. I play them just for the multiplayer and will gladly forget them. So I tend to only buy the biggest one, with the largest fan base, that I will enjoy the most. Since I spend most of my time on single-player games, I'm only interested in the best online FPS.

For me, this has been CoD. But I have no devotion to the CoD franchise and if Battlefield comes out awesome, I will buy it.
