I obviously hope that they return safely, just because they are fighting, something which I don't believe in, doesn't mean they should die or be hurt.

Nope. Even though I (loosely) know a few who have been to Afghanistan I still don't support them.
And I do not care when I hear of another soldier dead because they should expect that and chose the risk. Same goes for their families.

And I definitely does not support the war in Iraq but I might just be able to accept the reasons for Afghanistan. I still support UN sanctioned peacekeeping forces though (like the ones that where in the former Yugoslavia)

I support the troops 100% I'm not sure that they are there for a valid reason but the point is that politics landed them there and they'll have to make do on their own until there is a revelation (or revolution) in our government and the way it runs. The troops themselves are innocent, that is until they start committing crimes on foreign soil like torturing prisoners and etc.

If you're enough of an idiot(no offence) to join the army, then that's your problem, I won't support you.

I only support the troops who joined up before the Iraq war. Everyone else, well "Just doing your job" is no excuse, you knew what you were getting into and either you knew it was wrong but you did it anyway, or even worse, you actually think it's right.

I know a lot of soldiers who simply consider it a job; nothing more noble than being a construction worker or mechanic. And I know others who think war is "fun," i.e. they signed up to kill people. This happens quite a bit and it's not considered okay to point it out, but a lot of guys sign up hoping they will get the chance to murder another human being. I cannot support that.

Its not really an issue in the U.K. we only seem to support the tabloids view of what ever goes on, so if one day the papers decided to go with the byline "Let's get rid of these armed baby killing parasites!" we would follow that line of thinking. I have always held the belief that if you join the army by choice you are either stupid desperate or come from a line of desperate and stupid people.

That said I still hate the notion of any human being dying for any reason, but don't see someone getting their legs blown off for "freedom" any different from someone fighting a losing battle against cancer. Both are heroes in their own way.

But ultimately the buck stops with the leaders, my view is if you want to start a war you lead the troops personally, don't want to die? Don't start the fight in the first place¬

Do I support the troops? ...yeah, I suppose so. Do I support the war? ...I have no idea. I think we should've pulled out a long time ago, but that's just me. Sadly, this 'war' is turning out to be a new Vietnam war, what with how we're throwing our soldiers piece-meal to the 'enemy' who just wants us to stay the feck out of their country. But then, it's not like the soldiers can say 'no'. That's treason. Kinda wish there could be a vote or something

...this is a Democracy, isn't it?

I believe there's a sign that makes a lot of sense, and pretty much sums up the "war" in two simple sentences. Ja?

"Trespassers will be shot. Survivors will be shot again."

Yes I do.
I have a cousin in the army. I also have friends and family of friends in the armed forces.

So yeah, Do you support the troops over there?
This seems like a completely redundant question, to be honest.

There are shades of grey in everything. Some soldiers are complete dirtbags, no doubt, but on the whole no-one in their right mind would say they didn't support soldiers.

Even if I don't agree with war I still support my countries troops.
Maybe it's got something to do with my being in the Air Force.
Don't know.
The army sleeps under the stars, the navy navigates with the stars and the air force uses the stars to find hotels.

I'm an Australian, I support my troops (I think we're in Afghanistan now.

I used to think that Americans supported their troops until I visited Chicago. It seems that they support the troops until they come home, then they are content to let them live on the streets for their trouble, begging off foreign tourists. Not impressed, really.

I would protest bad wars, both starting them and continuing them. However, I have little quarrel with the soldiers involved - they may have joined to fight, but that doesn't make them bad people. Until they start committing war crimes or whatever. It is, after all, each soldier's duty to question orders which may be deemed illegal. They are responsible for their actions, regardless of their orders.

I'm really in two minds about my opinion on soldiers. On the one hand, they are putting their lives on the line to keep me and my family safe and go through terrible ordeals to do their job. But, on the other hand, it is their job to kill people to do so, and I can't help but think that soldiers are aware that they will be expected to kill people when they sign up, yet still want to do that as their job, which I don't understand.

I support the troops (and hope as few of them as possible come to harm) but I do not support the conflict.

However, I don't actually do anything to support them (I'm not the one who decided to put them through training and ship them off to a distant warzone).
