Who wouldn't support the troops? Whether you support any war or not, you should always support your troops. Sometimes, you should even support the enemy troops.

They just do the fighting.
This. I may not support the War that the politicians are making them fight , but it callous to blame the war on the soldiers and hope for their deaths - they are just following orders.

I don't know. There's been some unnecessary friendly fire and civilian casualties.

But overall I guess I have to wish them a safe return.

Wow, lots of anti-soldier people here, they are so fucking cool eh?

Well, regardless I do support our (Canadian) troops. I'm not under some naive impression that all soldiers are totally benevolent paragons of goodness. I also don't have that impression about any other career, there are assholes in every profession, that includes doctors, nurses, and probably full time philanthropists, this is a fact. Yes, they kill people and they sign up aware that it will be part of their job, but considering that nowadays they seem to be killing people who joined up more or less specifically to kill anyone who doesn't agree with them, I think it's something that has to be done.

I'm not altruistic. As far as I'm concerned, their deaths mean nothing to me. You're expecting me to care about someone I'll never meet? Who are performing actions I'll never agree with?

Not going to happen.
So why do you care about your own country's troops dying then?

[small]Just wondering![/small]

EDIT: Oh, and I guess so - can't say it's something I particularly think about.

Honestly... who is going to say no aside from those bullshit cultists of the westburo verity? Yes I know I screwed that name up, that is how much I don't care.

It would be a vast breaking of human nature to say you wish harm in someone. This is even more the case if you don't know the person. Let alone have a reason to care about in the negative sense. That the opening post asks to disregard what you think of the war and asks how you would react to the people forced to fight it. Leads me to believe those who say no they don't support them are disregarding this part at the best for political reasons. At worse are just using their anonymous nature to be 'edgy.'

Who really will wish these poor soldiers death simply for being soldiers?
Who really wishes the death of anyone they don't know, for that matter?

A real tough question would be to flip this on it's head and ask if you would feel support for the people of Afghanistan who pick up a rifle to fight what they picture as a violent invasion... that one is far more tricky.

i support the troops but i don't support that they are in Iraq, i support that they are in afganastan.....why did we go to iraq, we wher attacked and we where ready for an invasion....and we invaded iraq...?????? wtf
The invasion of Iraq had been in the planning stages for a number of years before 9/11 happened. Saddam repeatadly broke fundamental UN laws that Iraq agreed to when it joined, it's sovereignity had long since been surrendered by it's actions(by the letter of the law, at least).

9/11 provided a convenient means of justifying what would have otherwise been, political career suicide. I'm not saying that it's right, or wrong. It's just that the invasion of Iraq wasn't as out of the blue as it may have seemed.

I feel as though every last one of them are murderers - you are expected to kill for your country or in some cases, someone else's country.

I support the survival of anyone unfortunate to be drafted, as they don't deserve to be there, it goes against human rights -and I don't care what side they're on.

Actually Germany isn't in any wars right now.
They are called peace missions, by the politicians, so I think our troops don't really need support, cause peace isn't dangerous.

That's a bit ignorant, most the people who fight in wars do it because they usually can't finacually afford to live, the majority of American Soldiers are black, because they have no other way to live.

There are also college scholarships for those who join the war as well, and so young people who have yet to live a life, go to war, so they can go to college and have a future.

If you're enough of an idiot(no offence) to join the army, then that's your problem, I won't support you.
Just wondering, do you support the idiots who join the fire department or police force instead?

I'll keep this short because I can feel a wall-of-text rant coming at any moment.
I wholeheartedly support my troops, and greatly respect any regular military force in the world. I was a US Marine for 4 years in the infantry, and been to Iraq twice.

I support the conflicts we are currently involved in!
Let me explain before you all collectively call me a brainwashed drone. The reasons for these conflicts starting in the first place are weak at best, but ultimately the politics don't matter. You have to look at the effect the strong troop presence has on the local population. In a city of rolling brownouts we would deliver generators to power the families' homes, and stuff our packs with soccer balls and candy for the children. When it came down to it most of the locals welcomed our presence because we were making improvements to their quality of life, where the insurgents would simply extort and threaten them. On the Afghan front, Marines have recently seized one of the largest areas for growing the Opium Poppy which they use to make heroin.

Do you support anyone who has little enough insight to kill another human being purely by command?

I hate the war and the concept of it and a lot of the troops abuse their power and are a bunch of assholes, but for the most part, I wish them safe return.

I don't mean as in believe in the war they are fighting, What i mean is do you wish them well being over there and a safe return. I know alot of people on the escapist are against the war in Iraq & Afghanistan, but You can't blame the soldiers for that for they're only doing their job.
I agree completely. Whether or not we should be fighting in Afganistan and Iraq is a pointless question. What matters is that we are there now and that it would be wrong to have had those chaps to have died in vain by pulling out now.

Actually... the majority of the troops are poor people who had no other option then the military. That or a life in some dead end, minimal wage, job that they would have to fight tooth and nail to keep, while working extra shifts just to survive. All the while living in dangerous conditions that poverty brings about, such as ghettos.

Some even go as far as to suggest the economy in these areas are deliberately damaged just to make sure there is enough meat for the grinder... it isn't that far fetched either, these are the areas the military recruits heavily from. Makes it easy to promise these people better lives, seeing they don't have a chance of one on their own outside of a gang life....

I wouldn't say I actively support them, but I don't wish them dead. Being in Afghanistan and Iraq is their own choice. There's no draft. If you're there, it's your own fault. Your family does have my sympathies if you die, but it should not come unexpected.
^This

There is no draft, people go because they want to.

There are tons of ways you can make a living besides sending yourself to war, how about picking up a book, your saying black people cant do that? There are tons of college scholarships out there that dont require you to put your self in harms way just to get it.
