well I am not from the US, I am from Argentina... the funny thing is that we actually have troops stationed in several places in the world, under the UN flag. Currently we have forces stationed in Kosovo, Haiti and Angola among others. I wish them a safe return to our country, though I don't see why we are involved in those conflicts. Hell I even know someone that lost his father in Angola.

my little sister is a Signaller, so course I support the troops. I know it may not be a just war they are fighting, but I do wish that every single one of them return safe, even though it is impossible.

I give the benefit of the doubt as my friends that served did so out of economic need to be able to go on into education or work.

I would say one way I support them is by asking why we are sending them into harms way. If I'm not willing to die for something I don't feel comfortable asking someone else to do so.

The people who fight in wars are immensely different than the people who started it; that was the whole point of The Postman.

You are so right, at least in ancient times leaders would go with their armies to war making more sense. Now they decide and sit behind their desks, often even meeting with the enemy leader discussing over a coffee or a martini while their soldiers kill eachother and civilians are slaughtered. If we could put two leaders in a boxing ring and decide the war with that... :(

I wouldn't say I actively support them, but I don't wish them dead. Being in Afghanistan and Iraq is their own choice. There's no draft. If you're there, it's your own fault. Your family does have my sympathies if you die, but it should not come unexpected.

And the entire war seems sort of like a merry-go-round of stupid. Soldiers go in, fight, a few die, a few are killed. Go to base. The surviving Taliban/Insurgents/Henchmen show normal civilians the dead and in doing so, recruit twice as many Taliban/Insurgents/Albatross as before. Repeat.

No.

They really don't require my support. Me waving a flag or putting a sticker on my car or whatever isn't going to make them any more likely to survive.

Besides, I've met quite a few soldiers and most of them were arrogant bastards. Especially the younger ones.

There aren't actually any Canadian troops in Iraq except for maybe a few in advisor roles, we are however pretty much running the show in Afghanistan. I generally support the troops. I don't always agree with the reasons they're there but I do believe they deserve a certain amount of respect.

However in some cases they need to be reprimanded pretty heavily if they are involved in war crimes or questionable conduct.

In general I support the troops but not the reason they're in iraq and afghanistan but it depends on the the standard of the troops themselves.

Wait. We have troops?
Seriously, our army does fuck all. We wouldn't stand a chance in an invasion.

Would you blame the hammer for smashing your finger, or the person wielding the hammer? I don't care if the troops are sent to eradicate an orphanage, the ones sending them there are the ones to blame, so YES, I support the troops it's not their fault if they are used in the wrong manner. And another thing, they are human, they make mistakes, they are put into situations where they are constantly fearing for their lives, you can't fault them if they make a mistake that costs the wrong people their lives.

Well I look at the troops the same way I look at people who had a car crash speeding or drink driving, with patronising pity. My opinion is if your stupid enough to join the army then you gotta face the consequences. However I'm wouldn't hope for them to come to harm.
