Well I look at the troops the same way I look at people who had a car crash speeding or drink driving, with patronising pity. My opinion is if your stupid enough to join the army then you gotta face the consequences. However I'm wouldn't hope for them to come to harm.
...
Some people join the armed forces because they have a sense of honor, and when the shit goes down, they'd rather be helping to keep their mates alive than cowering under the table.

So in that case I pity anyone who joins the army now to fight our current wars out of a foolish sense of honor.

Still no one deserves to die. Not the "Honorable" soldiers fighting "terrorists" or the "Middle eastern freedom-fighters" defending their land from "opressive corperate demons"...
There are no black and white wars. Besides, war has been fought for terrortary and trade for thousands of years.
Well then unless your sense of honor is to your family (which I respect I guess) or your *hur* country then I go back to the opinion of my first post...

They are the ones that get injured, die, and etc... so yes i support them ^^

the ones that send them to fight for money, power, oil, etc... etc... etc... are the ones to blame.

i know many people that joined the army just because either their family was almost without money and they wanted to help them out quickly, or because they wanted to get away from something/someone... they are the poor bastards.

at least this is my point of view on the subject ^^

I don't mean as in believe in the war they are fighting, What i mean is do you wish them well being over there and a safe return. I know alot of people on the escapist are against the war in Iraq & Afghanistan, but You can't blame the soldiers for that for they're only doing their job.

What made me think about this was i just heard the xfactor finalists song Hero. Which got me thinking about the boys over there and how much shit they must be going through day in day out. Also the pictures in the video sorta brought a tear to my eye seeing all the soldiers reunited with their wife and kids just filled me up with a sense of happiness.

So yeah, Do you support the troops over there?
"they're only doing their job." So? You could say that about Dr. Mengele as well. (Of course I'm not suggesting that US troops resemble Josef Mengele. In my opnion, they don't.) That you earn a living doing something immoral doesn't make it any less immoral. So if I am against the war in Iraq & Afghanistan, why would I support the people waging that war?

Not American, and can't really care about a war I keep hearing about but have no fucking idea why is it happening.

Think this vid pretty much sums up how i feel about that line
Yow, OP...you better check the vid out..and perhaps even reconsider your standpoint.

As for my own two cents...I don't "support" troops of any kind..of any nation. In fact I don't believe anyone in their right mind really wants to pick up a weapon to hurt other human beings. Training "helps" soldiers over this...just as conditioning makes it easy, too damn easy, to obey "authority".

Actually Germany isn't in any wars right now.
They are called peace missions, by the politicians, so I think our troops don't really need support, cause peace isn't dangerous.
Believe it or not, but for the first time since 1945 it is WAR
Although they're called "peace missions", and we're in the middle east for development work and leave the fighting mainly to U.S. soldiers and such, it's war

Soldiers of the Bundeswehr are fighting and dying right now, they fight against terrorism to guarantee our freedom and they need every kind of support they can get

Or why do you think German soldiers return back home in body bags and we send Leopard II tanks to aid them? Just because hostile bombers aren't flying over Germany to bomb our cities to rubble doesn't mean we are not fighting in a war.

My take on it is this: I don't support the troops, they're doing something that I don't agree with and on that very basis I can't support their actions.

That doesn't mean I don't respect them and hope they live to see another day.

If the troops truly fail they will not even find the enemy, and if they can't find the enemy they can't fight, if they can't fight they won't die in battle. So I do not support the troops of any nation, least of all my own. I hope they fail so miserably that they can't die.

I do not support "my country's" troops. Do I wish them harm? Of course not, but you know the risks when you sign up for any military service. Not to forget you know full well that you aren't given a weapon to win hearts or build schools.

For any person that dies in a war, there is a parent that loses a child, a child that loses a parent and loved one that doesn't return home on ALL sides of the war.

In the end its the working class that has to pay the price for any conflict.

Despite the fact that my husband* is in the Canadian military, I generally do not support the mission in Afghanistan, nor the troops in general. I certainly do not want any more of them to die (their families should not have to suffer), but the more soldiers I meet and the more I come to understand the appalling attitudes that come with military culture, the less sympathy I am able to muster. So no, the troops do not have my support and in fact I think that the Canadian military should have a complete overhaul of their training and operational practices and viewpoints.

*He joined the military before we met, but is in a very safe, useful trade that makes him happy (air traffic control) so mostly I just keep my mouth shut. There's no sense in giving up on an otherwise wonderful relationship because I don't like his co-workers and believe that his employers are evil. We've agreed that he will never volunteer for a combat deployment.*

Yes. My brother is in the US Army, and I have friends in the military. Most of my XBL friends list are guys from the Army and Marines. We have a small clan called Strength in Brothers, [SinB], about 30 strong.

For the most part I hope people don't die pointlessly. Most of that is, ironically, directed at soldiers, who's entire career is designed to have them die pointlessly.
