Way more then that. He only finds the bad in games, much like how Gamespot only finds the good in games, if they're paid to. Yeah, I just said it :p

I take the critiquing parts of his reviews seriously, since he's usually right when he says "This certain part made my eyes bleed tears of blood" etc. etc. But yeah, most of it *is* meant to be taken with a grain of salt.

At first I took the reviews with plenty of salt, but whenever I play a game he has reviewed I discover he was always right on the nose. Because of this, I trust his opinions enough to treat them as reliable advice when it comes to buying a game or not. I guess that is what counts.

Of course, it is only a reviewer's opinion anyway, so it doesn't even matter if you disagree with him. That goes without saying, so I don't see the OP's point.

No. I take them as the Truth. Handed down from on high by our gabbling lord and master. His true face is never to be seen by the unworthy!

What a stupid question.

Nopers. I find knowing that what's bad about something is usually a lot more informative then knowing what's good about something.

I don't always trust the final verdict, but let's face it, if you're thinking something is either "OMG! BEST THING EVAAAR!" or "OMG! EPIC FAILZ0R!" because a reviewer told you so, then... well... I don't think I really need to finish that sentence.

I just stopped watching his Bioshock 2 review about a minute in. I don't think I'll be watching him any more, because he's constantly contradicting himself, and being an arrogant tosser.

He is strict. Because of that, when I see he approves of a game, I try to at least check it out if not buy it. But I have bought games he dislikes and still like them. He is Yahtzee yeah, but his reviews (still considering them as reviews) are opinions. That's it. One guy's opinion. He points out things most reviewers don't and that's why I usually take his reviews into credit when I am getting a new game.

If I took him completely seriously, I'd only play one or two games a year. I watch his videos for comedy purposes only. But if he actually does like something, then I know it pretty much has to be good.

Personally I think the problem with Yahtzee as a 'reviewer' is that he's expected to do a segment on pretty much every big game from almost every genre out there. On any other gaming site they have multiple reviewers reviewing on the genre's they actually like. We all have the genre's we like and dislike, and if you like say deep strategy games like Civilization or Total War you're not going to take a reviewer who's always playing fast paced FPS seriously on them.

Now obviously Yahtzee has a preference for single player action games, and a real dislike for RPG's, online multiplayer, and Nintendo. Personally I have a preference for RPG's, the above strategy games, and Nintendo, and don't care too much for FPS'ers, so while his segments are always good for a laugh it's impossible for me personally to take them seriously as our taste in gaming is so different..

I don't take him seriously at all, if I did I might get offended when he bashes games that I like.

To an extent, yes. Sometimes he can be overly critical and unfair I think, but then, that's kind of the point. He isn't here to present a staightforward review - leave that to Eurogamer and IGN.

On the other hand, there are times when I completely and utterly disagree with him. They are rare but they do happen and the prime example is his review of MGS4. I thought it was genuinely a masterpiece.

Then again, there is not a word I would change with his Bioshock 2 review. It's absolutely spot on.

People, people, we've been over this. The Yahtzee you see in Zero Punctuation is more like a character, and the reviews are exaggerated for comic effect. This is obvious if you've seen the Extra Punctuation column or have seen videos of him outside of ZP. Heck, he's implied this much himself.

Yes, in his reviews he's totally nitpicky about games that are generally good, he's biased as all hell sometimes and he just hates some genres, period. However, you're supposed to take all of this into account by now, and realize that some of the "bad" things he says about games might be the very reasons some people like them.

Hell, I decided to try out EVE Online BECAUSE of his review.
Edit: Then again, I'm one of those people that genuinely likes Dwarf Fortress...

You have to take them with a saltpillar from the Deadsea. I don't try to offend Yathzee when I say this, but his reviews have almost no credibilety at all. (Exept on some of the smug, sarcastic or just offensive comments on details about a game.)
They are popular soley based on their entertainmentvalue.

No.

A cellar of salt? Uh huh.

They're not meant for reviewing purposes, they're meant for comedy.

Just write: Yahtzee's "Reviews" instead of Yahtzee's Reviews and that'll help you remember.

Well after the Bioshock 2 review ( a game I'm desperatly trying not to play again for the third time to prevent the magic from dissapearing) I will just file this in the same cabinet that I placed his review of SSBB, it's his opinion I still like the game and I still thought his review was funny despite taking a game I like and firing it into the sun. Still you can impress some of the people some of the time but you can't impress all of the people all of the time. But still, just like the SSBB review I smell another Mailbag showdown, IT'S ON BITCHES!!!

If he provided a numerical rating, then I'd hate them. All he really does is tells what he thinks of the game, and what he doesn't like about it. That's what a reviewer should. He doesn't (often) blatantly say "this games sucks and you suck for liking it", he simply gives his reasons for hating it or compliments it and then drives a stake through it's heart.

That fact it's funny is just icing on the cake.

I take them as video-game based entertainment & look elsewhere for actual critical perspectives.

The man basically points out everything wrong with a game, and he rarely seems to note the good aspects unless they really deserve it, as he stated in the batman review "you don't come to me to hear about how a game is good". Granted some of his reviews aren't as funny as they used to be but you have to consider, you can only keep your material totally original and fresh for so long. Also he still has his glorious moments of hilarity, like the darksiders review, mocking how war has no right to be gloomy, as he is a monster truck that walks like a man.
