i've had my ass handed to me by quite a few girls. so, uh, yes. i think that girls can be very good gamers as long they try to be, which most dont.

although, i myself am a terrible gamer, so maybe my judgement is inadequate.

I actually pissed off a guy once on mic when I was playing Halo. My brother was wanting me to try the multiplayer, since he had just gotten it, and I was in a Oh well, why not phase. My previous experience being more in the RPG/Puzzle Solving adventure type thing.

At first, I was horrible. But by the third round, I started kicking some butt a bit, talking on microphone on it. My voice is clearly girlish, and I had a tendency to giggle if i killed someone.

This one guy thats a friend of my bro kept making a point of saying how i was never gonna be a good gamer and shit, while his other friends were pretty accepting. During that third round, i kept finding that same guy. And shooting him. And giggling.

He went into this t rex type roaring phase, about how he was gonna kill me then teabag me and whatever, but he never got a shot on me again. XD after 2 more rounds of that, he left.

No one else was upset when i killed them, btw. And thats the thing. There will always be some idiot nutjob that chooses to play multiplayer while being incredibly sexist. Just like there are all sorts of idiots in gaming. I believe girls can be good depending on the game, and i have no problem with either. And neither does most of my friends, or my brother's.

You just have to shoot down the occasional Jerk.
I'm going to start off by saying I'm a guy and I'm going to use your post to help prove my point.
Who is better doesn't depend on what gender you are it depends more on skill, practice and experiences which are non gender specific. Girls do however have a better chance at being a better gamer than a male counterpart, if they start off at the same time, for a while. This is because girls tend to adapt and improve at a faster rate than a guy who is into the game at the same time. This is due partially because women are able to, ever so slightly, multitask at a higher rate. That being said, all players have a max potential that they can reach in a game due to factors such as reflexes and button response time. Basically what I'm saying is that a girl gamer will tend to start a bit lower than a guy but start at a higher rate of increase before leveling off at her potential while a guy will slowly increase his ability till he reaches the same potential as the women counter-part.

In answer to your questions. Yes. Girl gamers are good (if they've had a lot of experience which is the same for guys), girl gamers can become good if they aren't already and I have no problem playing a game with a girl gamer. In fact I slightly prefer it as they tend to be a more mature group than those annoying 12 year olds that claim me for cheating because I beat them or won't shut up while I'm trying to concentrate on what I'm doing.

I don't play mass effect. I'm more of an RPG based player.
Uh... ME is an RPG.

OT: I have met two good girl gamers. One of which is just as good as me at some games. Its fun to play with someone the opposite gender as me and opens up opportunities for further-than-friends options seeing how a big part of your life is similar.

if they try, though I'd say the same thing about male gamers... I'm not entirely sure what exactly the difference is, it's like asking "which one is better at cooking?" both can be good if they try.

several of the players in my WoW guild are women and they can kick my ass in almost anything they do so yes, they can be good gamers, no i don't mind as long as they aren't being stupid and i know some really shitty guy gamers too, gender is not something i judge skill by

Gender doesn't affect gaming skills. Skill affects skills. I've met some awesome gamer girls, and I think I even lost a few matches on Street Fighter IV to some.

I believe they can be, I just haven't played against many, at least, not that made it clear that they were female, and tbh, with the "tits or GTFO" mentality that too many assholes have, I would not expect that you'd get many girls advertising themselves as such in online games.

My League of Legends friend/partner is a kick-ass girl gamer, so yeah I'd say they definitely can be good gamers. Why should your gender affect yuor ability to play games? Does it affect your ability to read, or watch movies, whatever? No, it does not.

I almost NEVER meet any girls online (although most online games I play are FPS' admittedly. That's not all I play, but that's the bulk of my online games), and I sure as hell haven't met any in IRL. I find it very hard to beleive though that your gender would affect your playing ability though.

My fiancée is undoubtedly better than me at super mario... cant say much for other games cause she mostly plays "life" games like harvest moon and the sims. She also made all of her Animal Crossing townsfolk swear a blue streak whenever you talk to them so id say shes good at that game too :p

Gender makes no difference to me. Heck, skill level or age doesn't really matter most of the time to me. Dick level is what matters.

Example, blowing up a plane or boat in Battlefield because I got it and you didn't.

That being said, at the end of the day, it's just a game.

I wish more girls would play video games, it would give me someone else to talk to on xbox live other than the idiotic frat boy and the swearing 12 year old stereotypes that thoroughly exist throughout all of multiplayer.

As for their gaming skill, I don't see a reason why they would be worse.

My girlfriend can't fire a gun in game to save her life. CoD, L4D, big game hunter's shooting gallery... The crazy part she's a good gamer. Give her a hack and slasher and jesus she's terrifying. She's one of those people that can do the combos in the middle of fight instead of resorting to spamming heavy attack. And the kingdom hearts battle system is her forte. So she is a good gamer and thus informs my opinion of all female gamers.

I'm not about to assume someone is or isn't a good gamer based on their gender. Asking someone "are girls good gamers?" is asking for a huge blanket statement.
