No, I don't wear make up. Not because I'm a guy [small](though, that may be a large contributor :p)[/small], but because I see no reason to. It seems like a mask you hide yourself behind. Come on! I want to see you, not the stuff on your face.

Are you kidding me, I'm a man, I'm a MANS MAN!

In short I don't wear make-up, but what are the reasons for a middle school boy to be wearing make-up?
This is off-topic but... I think that's one of the finest avatars I've ever seen.
Curses, I must've forgotten to cure my sexual magnetism virus.

Thanks for the compliment, I actually increased the resoluion and added the escapist "e's" in there the other day.

OP: Reading through some earlier posts I noticed a desire to don lipstick as well as mascara. Don't. Just, don't.

I wear some concealer to even my complexion (read: hide zits). And I wear really bold glasses, so I put on eyeliner and mascara to bring attention back to my eyes. I don't wear a lot though, and usually people can't even tell the difference between when I am or am not wearing it.

...I don't actually know if that's a bad thing or not.

I wear makeup from time to time, but it's usually just when I go out shopping or to a party or Halloween. I don't bother to do it everyday unless I have work. Also, wear makeup if you like. Egyptian men wore makeup just as much as women back in the day. I honestly have no problem if a dude or a woman decides to wear makeup. All the power to you. It's not a product for just one gender.

As for making your eyeliner stay longer, you can use a little bit of an eye primer wherever you're going to apply the eyeliner to make it last longer. There's several different kinds of eye primers by companies such as Urban Decay and Two Face. It also depends on the kind of eyeliner you use. I use Revlon ColorStay Eyeliner in Carbon black and it pretty much stays all day for me usually, and it also comes with its own sharpener which is awesome.

In order, my point is that your post presents absolute bigotry and generalization on your part, which may or may not be intentional.

What, so just because a lot of people have prejudices that makes it okay? Is that what you're implying?

The idea that I probably thought you stupid for making a generalization isn't a very solid argument, it's all based on assumption.

And yes, gays aren't all flamboyant, girly, or self-obsessed. That makes absolute perfect sense.
Bigotry? Where did this come from?
From the very first minute I have made it clear that I just have a personal "bar" for when people are "real men". And, alas, I do not consider homosexuals to be part of this. There is no benefit to being part of this "group"... There are no perks. It is just a mental filing system.

Just like everyone else has. That was my point.
Yes, bigotry. It doesn't matter if you say that you have no personal "Bar" for a group and then make a completely generalized statement about that group. That totally contradicts the statement. That's like saying "I don't discriminate against anybody MEXICANS ARE LAZY BLACK PEOPLE LIKE FRIED CHICKEN ASIANS ARE SMART JEWS ARE MONEY GRABBERS HOMOSEXUALS ARE GIRLY!"

You're missing the point, by excluding people from that group simply based on sexuality not only shows a bias, it also shows that you think of all homosexuals, no matter what they do, to be girly fruitcakes.

That still doesn't make them right, and it doesn't make you right either.

There never was any real debate, I was just clawing slowly at the giant bowl of political correctness that is becoming the world today. "How dare he talk negatively of gay men! They are our equal"
Everyone poliicing anyone.
Wait, what?
So you're saying that it's okay to be biased and make judgments based on a stereotype? Yeah, that's just a brilliant idea.

Of course they are. I never, ever, claimed otherwise.
Yes you did, you made that statement plain as day in the last post I quoted.

You may consider me a troll, but I like to think I'm making you think on this.
Once again, you put words in my mouth based on assumptions. No, I do not think you're a troll, a bit thickheaded perhaps, but not a troll. And I hope that I am making you think as well, such is the goal of any forum poster.

Like I have criteria for people to be, for me, smart, smartass, beautiful, sexy and so on and so forth.
Lo and behold, Catchphrase reveals himself to be an elitist.

@Catchphrase and those in his boat:
Grr, we are men. Manly menly mans. Made of muscles with grizzle in our guts, and we drink.... beers! Which are for mans. And we cut down trees with our hands! And eat whole cows without even first cooking them. And the closest we've ever gotten to makeup is the metal soot that gets on our face because it's in the air that we breath because we grind metals to make machines! Or haven't you ever worked at a factory before? Hrm. No wait! Mens are gentle-man-fully, and we escort the ladies who are frail and helpless. Except the ones who can nearly bench press a car, or run a household, or manage top level industries and run countries. I've figured it out! Mens are lawyers, and doctors and stock brokers! And wear fancy suits and expensive watches and get nicely trimmed nails so they look groomed. Or, no, men are fathers, and can raise childrens, and stay home when they are sick, and act caring and tender and not go to work so to stay home and watch over them. Wate. Hmmmm.

Well. I don't know what mens are. So I'm glad you've got it all figured out and have a nice little heuristic to hum to yourself so you don't get confused when you walk outside and think that maybe what you're talking to is a fire hydrant or something.

Anyway, I don't wear makeup but that's because I have a very utilitarian outlook. Everything I own and wear serves a specific function. I wear military cargo pants because they're durable and I tend to carry a lot of things and combat boots because they're comfortable for walking very long distances in (like hiking boots) but very resilient and keep out water and dirt and such (like farming/work boots.) Otherwise I have a bunch of unremarkable t-shirts without logos. Everything I wear is black (and has been for about ten years) because its simple to make everything match and I consider my entire wardrobe work clothes, so I don't care if I get dirt or paint or whatever on anything. Thus, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for me to wear makeup. I usually find people less attractive (of all genders) when they wear makeup, but, with the whole utilitarian thing, I have a preference for things to be presented as they are (i.e. encrusting a phone in diamonds doesn't actually improve the quality of the phone any http://www.walyou.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/most-3xpensive-iphone-3g.jpg )

That said, a good friend of mine wears makeup (occasionally,) dyes his hair, wears all manner of women's clothes and acts like (and I mean no offense to anyone because I call him this with the best intentions) a fairy. He's also been to jail, carries a police baton on him most of the time, can drink most people I know under the table and will otherwise not hesitate to mess you up if you screw with him. He gets less sh*t for wearing girl's clothes than I do for wearing black all of the time. If you like the makeup and can rock it and want to wear it and feel confident, that's your prerogative. Most of the forward thinking world is beginning to realize that adherence to old gender roles is quickly going out of style, and with it the reserve of bigots who intend to try and enforce it is dwindling.

No, no make up for me. Then again I do generally dress like a bogan ( I don't give my appearance too much effort).

I don't wear makeup generally but I have worn it on stage from time to time, and I do also have to wear it if I'm going on TV.

I don't really care if others wear makeup, none of my business really. Good on the OP for standing up for himself.

EXCEPT, and this is my only exception, when you are an actor performing on stage. In that case, you need makeup to keep your face from disappearing.

Other then that, I, personally, think that a man shouldn't wear makeup. I quite honestly see no reason for it. If you think you need makeup to fit in, or to meet the criteria for a certain persona, then you are trying to be something you are not, and that is a shame.

I echo. Middle-school? Seriously? I'm female, and I didn't even contemplate makeup until my senior year of highschool, (and only at church or special occassions like a wedding). I see makeup as something to improve your natural appearance so that you can look your best, not to create a different image of yourself or send a message.

No middle schooler should ever wear makeup, slap their hands if they even try to reach for it because chances are when they put it on they look like a clown or some sort of panda. I only wear makeup for special occasions and I put it on lightly, it's suppose to highlight your natural features not cover them up.

Kind of similar to what Blood Masque stated earlier, but men were wearing makeup and dresses loooong before women. I always tend to find it funny when people say men doing such is wrong, seeing as they were the first to do so and it persisted as a fashion trend. But that was over a hundred years ago for the most part (there's may be a few places in the world still) and a lot of people tend to ignore popular trends in history past a certain point.

The point of makeup is to either cover up or emphasize features shown publically and with the possible exception of nudist colonies, those features are not gender specific. Besides, when makeup's done moderately most people shouldn't even be able to notice without very close inspection.

On the topic of stereotypes, I've yet to encounter any that could be qualified as anything other than bat-@#$% crazy. Trying to adhere to one of these psychotic dichotomies is a frightening idea. The most functional and sane people are those that just go about life ignoring what some popular idea might view as being right without rational theory to back it up (such as measurable legal infringement, basic human-rights violations, or something that would lead to hospitalization). One of the least rational categories of these is stereotypes based on appearance. While appearance may affect how people respond to a person, it is completely ineffectual as a criteria for a determination of personality.

As for myself... well, there's a reason for my avatar. Makeup and pretty bows helps lower the potential SAN loss of people seeing me from a d8 to a d4, though I don't particularly like using it.

Ok, you've got me interested, how does a swastika relate to anarchism?
Easy enough to answer, Actual. The swastika was originally designed as a symbol of anarchy through the Black Ram Group which surfaced in 1982. Ta-da!

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but had you walked into my high school with a bloody swastika on your forehead, I would been one of these so called ignorant asses calling you far worse than just a nazi. I don't care if the anarchists took the symbol, it's still got nazi stigma. I'd take great offense to it.

And, as it's been mentioned, its origns are not with the Black Ram Group. The symbol is over 3,000 years old.

On Topic: Yeah, as a girl, I wear quite a bit of makeup. It's a confidence booster. If a guy wants the same, go for it. Though I won't deny eyeliner's still odd to see on a man.

You're not a narcissist, your parents just did not provide you with enough attention(or smothered your with it) throughout your childhood... Thus making you seek attention in many odd ways with the idea that "Any attention is good attention".

It's basic psychology, little man. I'm no shrink or therapist, but it's quite common knowledge. You'll learn someday.
What is common knowledge is always right, and pop psychology is among the most esteemed professions in the land. Judging a person's upbringing and relationship with their parents based on the way they dress is a 100% accurate method.

"little man" and "You'll learn someday" both just cement your authority on the matter. Condescension is one of the best ways of establishing your ethos after all.

(Good thing sarcasm is too. I'm on solid ground now.)

On a side note, too much makeup is a bad thing. Learn where the line is, and never cross it.
ya its just eyeliner for now. i think some lipstick might compliment it though.
This had me initially thinking transvestite. Not in a bad way.

I mean, it seems like the only reason you're even doing this is because of the fact that these boys are making fun of you.

well yeah, you have a bit of a point there. i'd probly still wear it, but i'd be a lot less motivated if ppl didn't care. i'm not really getting made fun of tho, just sort of getting called on it.
But this changed my mind. Just attention seeking behavior combined with emo/goth fashion sense.

Attention seeking is immature in my opinion. Its okay to change your appearance however you want, but don't be confrontational about it. People looked at you a bit weird when you changed your appearance and asked why you changed, and you immediately got standoffish. My response in that situation: "Well sorry for being curious about your life." It just sounds like you are trying to set up a martyr complex for yourself.

Guide to Attention Seeking
1: Change dramatically
2: Wait for reactions
3: Overreact to reactions
4: People get irritated at you for overreacting
5: ???
6: PROFIT

Is this your master plan? Because the real step 5 is being ostracized, and there's no step 6.

Tip: Stop at step 2. If they didn't react negatively, then be happy about it. This means that you can carry on with both a social life with accepting friends and your personal fashion sense.

OT (at last): I don't wear makeup personally. Doesn't suit my fashion sense, nor does it appeal to my girlfriend. But to each their own.

No, because I'm a man.

Wearing makeup to school when you're a guy and then being surprised when people take the piss strikes me as rather naive.

Don't worry about it, you should wear whatever you like and put whatever you want to your face. It's your body, your choice, doesn't matter what the norm is. Anyone who says you shouldn't is closed minded and thinks everyone should fit strictly the gender norms like fucking robots. Don't listen to 'em.

Personally I don't wear makeup anymore though I've dabbled in lip gloss and nail polish in the past when I've been to concerts and stuff, back when I used to be even girlier than I am now.

also, a lot of girls find eyeliner very sexy on guys. Just look at that guy from Green Day and how many high school girls want him.

Edit: well I didn't read the whole thread. Don't do it if you're just attention seeking... Do it because you want to. Attention seekers who try to be different rather than just BEING different are incredibly annoying people.
