Thoroughly enjoyed it. Thought the writing, acting and twists were all superb. I do, however, feel slightly underwhelmed for 2 reasons:

1) Hitler had very little to do with the actual story, although his brief appearance was fantastic

2) I expected a second half to "A Good Man Goes to War". The episode, to me, felt less like a concluding part to that story, and more like a continuation of the series as a whole

Regardless, I still thought it was a great piece of entertaining television

I enjoyed the episode but I have to say, I am really starting to miss the more light-hearted episodes of Russell T. Davies.

Also, one of my gripes is that calling their "friend" Mels was a little obvious, surely Amy and Rory would have copped something. Or they supposedly had been friends for years, surely they would have at least known her full name.

The dark, River Song/Silence episodes are great but I kind of miss the days where Ardal O' Hanlon would show up as a cat driving a car. Rory adds comedy to the show but I think the show has started to take itself a little too seriously under Moffat.

It was a beasty episode.

I tell you who's not happy about it, though: Hitler.

I just thought this episode was a huge, jumbled mess. The way they tried to quickly wrap up all the plot points in the first episode so they can continue on was just done really badly. The Hitler thing was just pretty boring really and hardly factored anything into the story besides a different framing device for the cookie cutter action. While there were some good moments, the companion holograms being my favourite, I just don't like the series under Moffat now. There is no real sense of cohesion between the cluster of stories going on at the moment and it just doesn't flow as well as previous series. I understand trying to have a twisting, turning story but at least make it simple to follow, unlike the clusterfuck which is happening at the moment.

In my opinion, they need to go back to the drawing board at the end of this series. Try and have a simpler, but more finely honed story for the next series.

Ugh, I am sick of the whole 'river song' storyline... The whole way that has panned out, including that GOD AWFUL twist in which she turns out to be Amy and Rory's daughter... i've stopped caring. The whole story line puts me in the mind of doctor who fanfiction, not what should be the actual show...

Also, new favourite line:
"You will feel a slight tingling sensation and then you will die."
New favourite line:
RORY! PUT HITLER IN THE CUPBOARD!

or maybe "Right, putting Hitler in the cupboard. In you go, Hitler."

Ah yes. I couldn't pin it down before but you hit the nail on the head, it *has* turned into fanfiction :/

EDIT: Can't someone just commission Neil Gaiman to write a whole series........

We always knew that regeneration energy could heal. But never that it made the Time Lord in question invulnerable.
I assume that's the loophole they're going to use for the "Impossible Astronaut" ordeal.

Just had a thought regarding how little of Hitler was actually in the episode (I never thought I'd say "needs more Hitler") - what if "Let's Kill Hitler" is a metaphorical title referring to the Doctor himself? Both people have had a 'genocidal maniac' phase in their lives. :|

TIMELORD MAGIC.

Or maybe he'll go to Amy and be a charred corpse, just to give millions of children + me nightmares forever.

Also, while I know nothing about how the Nazi's acted in the 1930's, shouldn't the Nazi's have been a bit more trigger-happy? Like the guy in the opening when he gets followed by the robot version of The Spy filled with midgets and Hanarr robots programmed by GLaDOS. Why did he just stand gawking and not sound an alarm?
This is my new way to describe those things. Except I already made a Portal joke to my family and none of them got it. Stick in the muds, they wouldn't know anything unless it was in a newspaper or on TV.

That matters not to Moffat.
Every episode since I've waited for the potential loopholes Moffat has been setting up for himself. Gangers and the like. There'll be subplot after subplot involved.

I sound really bitter now... I'm not, I still love the show (perhaps a little TOO much) I just feel as though it's become so concerned with twisty-turny plots and sub-plots and sub-sub-plots it's lost some of the elements that made me love it in the first place.

Good ideas terrible execution- felt overly rushed (as seems to be the norm) and the sudden switch from "Hitler and time travel" to "The Redemption of River Song" was badly jarring, it wasnt Doctor & the Pirates weak but wasnt far off, hope it was just the director dropping the ball on this one.
Im still loving Rory's progression into a badass action hero but the River Song character is beginning to veer into Mary Sue/The Scrappy territory (for me at least).

[sub] Oh and two Karen Gillans? Ill be in my bunk...[/sub]

Watch both parts, Rory seems to agree : )
