I eat almost entire truck fulls of junk, and yet I'm as skinny as a sapling. I'd say I have a fast metabolism.

I used to have a fast metabolism, up until about 18 yrs old. Now im 20, the last two years have had my messy eating habits catch up with me a little. Which has caused me to watch what I eat, regularly exercise and maintain my weight. :D

So I would say it depends on the individual make up of an escapist. :D

My metabolism is pretty good considering what I eat. I am not very skinny but I am not too fat.

I do love my high metabolism though :D
Love it while it lasts.

OT: What he said (for the most part).

Yes. My diet is primarily sour candy, fried chicken, and coca cola.

I'm 5'6 and 90 pounds. So, yes.

I'm 33 years old. "Fast Metabolism" is just a Fallout perk to me now.
Yeah, I hear you. At about 17-18 I lost my fast metabolism and started gaining weight. There was a period of time when I was doing 1-2 hours of martial arts 4-5 times a week (mixed martial arts and kung fu) and I still didn't lose all that much weight. I lost some, but not all that much.

I'm probably about 30 pounds over or something, can't seem to lose it. Part of the problem is I enjoy eating good food.

I'd wish.

I suppose my metabolism is around average.
My BMI is around 34~ which I hate, yet I don't look that fat.
But something must be done because I want to be slim and lean.
Same here, my BMI makes me wince. Last I checked I was just barely into the "obese" category, but I don't think I look at big. Then again, it's noticeable that I'm overweight, so I dunno.

I need to exercise a lot more and eat less. Sadly, I just get too tempted by sedentary activities and tasty home-cooked meals.

Well I know I do. I barely ever do anything, I eat a lot of unhealthy food, and I only way about 115 pounds.(and I'm roughly six feet tall, so that's pretty light)

A little bit of meat on your bones is good for you (take that however you want).

The fast/slow metabolism thing hasn't convinced me yet. I think that in most cases young people tend to have a "healthy metabolism" and that goes down the drain with as the years go by.

Of course there are particular cases and known diseases that might do the trick but if a doctor hasn't put a name to yours then you are just young and overall healthy.

I wonder how could we measure "metabolism speed"?
Calories metabolized per hour?

A trip to wikipedia later.
Basal metabolic rate (BMR), and the closely related resting metabolic rate (RMR), is the amount of energy expended while at rest in a neutrally temperate environment, in the post-absorptive state (meaning that the digestive system is inactive, which requires about twelve hours of fasting in humans). The release of energy in this state is sufficient only for the functioning of the vital organs, the heart, lungs and kidneys and the rest of the nervous system, intestine, liver, lungs, sex organs, muscles and skin. BMR decreases with age and with the loss of lean body mass. Increasing muscle mass increases BMR. Aerobic fitness level, a product of cardiovascular exercise, while previously thought to have effect on BMR, has been shown in the 1990s not to correlate with BMR, when fat-free body mass was adjusted for. New research[citation needed] has however come to light which suggests anaerobic exercise does increase resting energy consumption (see "Aerobic vs. anaerobic exercise"). Illness, previously consumed food and beverages, environmental temperature, and stress levels can affect one's overall energy expenditure as well as one's BMR.

BMR is measured under very restrictive circumstances when a person is awake. An accurate BMR measurement requires that the person's sympathetic nervous system not be stimulated, such a condition whose prerequisite is that of complete rest. A more common and closely related measurement, used under less strict conditions, is resting metabolic rate (RMR).[1]

AJA! I knew it!

I don't, I wish I did though. My metabolism is about as fast as a rock in a flat field on a windless day.

I think I do. I pretty much eat whatever and do not seem to gain weight.
Right now I'm trying to work out more so I can stop being so skinny and try to get some muscles, BOO-YEAH! *flexes*

I used to have that problem, then I ate a lot more (im eating right now) and I gained a lot of weight. also, being away first year of college helps a lot.

I have a pretty high metabolism. I know it's gonna start slowing down sometime soon.
